As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.

Telephoto zoom is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 240-960mm equivalent focal length range.

One F Low Dispersion (FLD) and three Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with a rear focus system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

Optical Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to benefit making sharper imagery when shooting handheld.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Dust- and splash-resistant design suits this lens's use in inclement weather conditions and a water- and oil-repellent coating has also been applied to the front element to aid in cleaning.

Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

Zoom lock switch can be activated at any focal length to prevent accidental and unwanted zoom adjustment.

Compatible with optional Sigma TC-1401 1.4x and TC-2001 2x teleconverters.

A removable, rotating tripod collar offers well-balanced support for photographing atop a tripod or monopod with either vertical or horizontal shooting orientations.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. made in Japan or somewhere else?

A: Thank you for your interest in Sigma products. All of our lenses are made in Japan.

Q: 2. Can someone recommend a telephoto or my D3300 or 3400 Nikon's that would work well with indoor events and out - Sharp people shots - taken manually or auto focus, please advise asap? Thanks!

A: Janice, I don't know how much telephoto you need, but letme say that outdoors, my Sigma 150-600 Contemporary performs as good on my 3100 as any of my Nikon lenses. Manual or autofocus. Sorry I cannot help you with any indoor info, as I have never used it inside.Chris

Q: 3. I am looking or a lens to capture action shots (specifically football) both during the day and at night. Is this the lens for me ?

A: It's a great lens for sports (Outdoor) as this lens is slow needs lots of light for a fast shutter speed, so daytime and with very high ISO. Many sport photographers use a 300 2.8, or 400 2.8, where this lens is 5.6 or 6.3 for those focal same mm.

Q: 4. The lens keeps making micro adjustments after the focus has been set, as a result I have not been able to obtain clean shot, all are blurry. I have it on a tripod and am using a remote shutter release. The camera is a 5DMII. Have I purchased a poorly constructed lens or is it something else? I do not have this issue with any of my canon lenses.

A: I think what you are experiencing has to do with the image stabilization. With many of the Canon long L series lenses, the camera/lens combination actually recognizes the camera is on a tripod and disables the image stabilizer. This does not occur with the Sigma. I also use mine on the 5D Mk II and have found that in live view the image when mounted on my tripod continues to move around as the IS does not recognize that the camera is in fact not moving. I turn off the IS when using a tripod and once focus is achieved the image shifting stops. Hope this helps.

Q: 5. Is it compatible with a Nikon D5100?

A: It is fully compatible.

Q: 6. Will it work on a Nikon 750?

A: Yes

Q: 7. What's the lens' longest focal length that still has f/5.6 aperture? (My camera's AF limit).

A: From what I can tell, it appears to go from 5.6 to 6.3 right at 400mm. I know I have seen that specific information in a couple of reviews but don't recall the exact change point. It probably also shows up on the Sigma website. Here is where it is going to get confusing. I tried the Sigma on my 5D Mk II which has an f5.6 autofocus requirement and it will auto focus at f6.3 with no problem. With my Canon 100-400mm f4-5.6 and my 1.4X TC that 5.6 jumps to f8 and it will not auto focus. When I tried this test just now it is raining outside so ambient light levels are not very high. So I would expect the f6.3 to be even less a concern with better light. I have both the 7D Mk II and the 5D Mk II and have used the Sigma on each with no auto focus problems. I actually had not thought about the f5.6 need when I used the lens on my 5D recently. Hope this helps.

Q: 8. How does the USB dock work?

A: I use the lens with a Canon mount, but it should work the same. Sigma Optimization Pro software is used with the dock. You attach the lens to the dock just as you would attach it to the camera. The software checks to see if there is a firmware update for the lens, and if there is you can update it. That's what I've used the dock for and it appears to work very well. You can also adjust AF and OS using the dock, but I haven't tried that, yet. The AF and OS seems to be working well.

Q: 9. I have the Sigma 150 - 500 mm. Would it be worth to upgrade to this one? I am more into wildlife.

A: Probably not......600 end is not that sharp unless you stop it down. I'd get a 100-400 v2 Canon if you can afford it and use a teleconverter

Q: 10. I want to use this lens with Sony ILCE 7S, using Metabones Adapter Mark IV for Canon EF or Canon EF-S Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera. AF will work?

A: You can use the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Canon EF with the Metabones IV EF to E-mount adapter on the a7S. While we cannot guarantee AF, it does sound like other users have been able to retain autofocus with this combination.

[Yes] As an amateur photographer using with a Canon 80D, I have been able to get some great shots. Although when using AF at times I do find it goes out of focus and does not refocus very fast. Still I feel it's a great lens for the money.

[Canon EF] After much research I purchased this lens from B&H. It was priced and delivered as promised (a shout out to Kevin R, who helped me). I also purchased the Sigma Doc. I used the doc to update the firmware after unpacking. While I had read about the size, weight and build quality of this lens -- but when I actually had it in my hands and pushed about 1000 images through it over two days of testing -- it exceeded my expectations on all three. It is big, heavy and built like a tank. I used it on a Nikon D500 at all focal lengths and a wide range of f stops. The focussing is lightening fast on the D500, but I found that using a single point of focus sometimes caused the software to hunt. Using area focus with multiple points solved the problem. The lens was tack sharp on the D500, I will test again when my D850 arrives. The color and bokeh were both better than expected. I found no vignetting or fringing that was troublesome in the least. One of the most pleasantly surprising was how well the lens performed at its close focus range. All shots were on a monopod. The image stabilization was good. I had some soft focus images, but I attribute those to user error and the learning curve associated with such a long and large lens. Some of the images are posted on my YouPic site: https://youpic.com/photographer/JohnEllingson/

[150 to 600mm] This lens is massive! I compared it to my Canon 70-200mm, making it look like a prime lens. I'm pairing it with my Canon 5D IV, which produces lovely images straight from the camera. Seeing what I can capture outdoors with natural light would be nice.

[Full-Frame] This lens is really really good. I shoot sports and when you move to a player or pan with a fast horse, the focus is right on. Heavy, but worth the price. I work outside in all types of weather, the waterproof/dust-proof feature is great.

Horse photo shot at 250mm SS 1/1300, f8, ISO 1000 with Canon 7D Mark II

[Full-Frame] I had done a lot of research and had talked to other photographers and two of my go to photo stores (B&H was one). I might not have been comparing apples to apples the Canon100-400 plus extender vs Sigma 150-600mm but from all I heard and saw the price was right. The only thing you really need to consider is the weight of this lens, you will need a tripod/gimbal (or nice ball head).

My pictures are from my first outing with this lens and both have been cropped down as the Eagle was probably 75-100 yards and the Coyote easily 200-250 yards away. The sky as you can tell was cloudy but provided a nice back drop.

[Canon EF] The picture quality is outstanding. I will be using this for mostly bird/wildlife photography. The lens is a bit on the heavy side so use of a monopod or tripod is a benefit. You can hand hold it but be prepared for a workout! I love that you are able to lock the zoom at the different focal lengths.

[6.75 lb] If you enjoy outdoor/wildlife photography this is a must have. Admittedly I am a amateur, but this lens makes me feel like a pro. Took some time getting used to it and highly recommend shooting from a tripod. I am loving everything about this purchase.

[150 to 600mm] I have only used it once but the few photos I have gotten are amazing! I am very satisfied with this lens. It is a bit heavy for hand holding but put it on tripod with a gimbal head or a mono-pod and you're good to go!

I am loving the extra reach at 600mm which I needed very much. I would strongly recommend this lens to anyone needing extra reach and quality images at a great price.

[f/5 to 6.3] I have had this lens about a week, but so far am very happy with it. I took it out to shoot birds, and got a filter to shoot the sun, getting ready for the eclipse in April. I have a Canon 1DX MK III, and I was also using the Canon 1.4x ll extender. It integrated with it seamlessly. Focus is fast and accurate, colors are beautiful and I got a lot of very sharp images. Yes it is a beast, used a monopod most of the time, but able to do handheld for short periods without too much muscle fatigue. Takes a little getting used to rotating the zoom ring the opposite direction than what I was used to, but that's no problem. The build quality is rock solid. Looking forward to getting out there and shooting a lot more with this lens.

[Full-Frame] This lens produces amazingly sharp images once it has been properly calibrated to your camera body, using the Sigma dock and customization software which does not come with the lens. This process is very time consuming and requires a methodical approach to set the lens up for 16 different focal length/distance combinations, but the end result is worth it. In addition to reading the calibration instructions that come with the dock and software, I suggest reading several on-line write ups that will give you good perspectives on how to set up your calibration protocol. Lens features that I really like: the zoom lock switch that prevents lens focal length creep when carrying the lens, two detent positions that let you feel when your camera has been rotated into either the portrait or landscape orientation, the ability to zoom by either rotating or sliding the lens barrel - which ever works best for you, a very solid build quality for all parts of the lens including the aluminum lens hood, a very nice and substantial carrying case. The only negative I have come up with so far is the weight of the lens - about 7 pounds, which necessitates a tripod or monopod for truly sharp images at longer focal lengths and reasonable ISO settings. If you use an Arca Swiss tripod head, you will need to buy an adapter for the lens foot that comes with the lens. I should mention that this is my second Sigma 150-600mm Sport Lens. The first one I bought second hand and was not able to calibrate it correctly. I returned the first lens and bought this one new from B&H and I am very happy with it.
