As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.

Telephoto zoom is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 225-900mm equivalent focal length range. It is also compatible with the Nikon D5000.

One F Low Dispersion (FLD) and three Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with a rear focus system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

Optical Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to benefit making sharper imagery when shooting handheld.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Dust- and splash-resistant design suits this lens's use in inclement weather conditions and a water- and oil-repellent coating has also been applied to the front element to aid in cleaning.

Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

Zoom lock switch can be activated at any focal length to prevent accidental and unwanted zoom adjustment.

Compatible with optional Sigma TC-1401 1.4x and TC-2001 2x teleconverters.

A removable, rotating tripod collar offers well-balanced support for photographing atop a tripod or monopod with either vertical or horizontal shooting orientations.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. does this lens work well with Nikon D3500 and are there any restrictions?

A: The Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Nikon F will work on a Nikon D3500. Auto focus is controlled by a motor in the lens. Speed of focus will depend on the lens and the camera. If neccessary, calibration can be fine tuned using the USB connector.

Q: 2. Hi, this lens is compatible with canon 60D?

A: Yes if you get the canon mount.

Q: 3. How does the USB dock work?

A: I use the lens with a Canon mount, but it should work the same. Sigma Optimization Pro software is used with the dock. You attach the lens to the dock just as you would attach it to the camera. The software checks to see if there is a firmware update for the lens, and if there is you can update it. That's what I've used the dock for and it appears to work very well. You can also adjust AF and OS using the dock, but I haven't tried that, yet. The AF and OS seems to be working well.

Q: 4. What is the warranty in this lens ?

A: Limited 1-Year Warranty with a Limited 3-Year U.S.A. Warranty Extension.

Q: 5. I have a 5d Mark iii - has anyone used this lens to capture photos of the Moon?

A: I have used it for the both the Harvest and Super Moon shots. Outstanding photos with this lens. Handheld with70D.

Q: 6. Is it compatible with canon EOS 650D/ rebel t4i?

A: I do not know if it is compatible with those models

Q: 7. I am looking or a lens to capture action shots (specifically football) both during the day and at night. Is this the lens for me ?

A: This lens can work for action shots. I took some of baseball and was able to capture my son coming towards me from home to first and keep the action in focus. I like the MO mode for focus which allows you to use both AF and Manual at the same time. I have not tried this lens at night for action shots. Their sports lens is probably the better choice if you can afford it. It is faster at focusing on moving subjects. The lens is heavy so handheld shots would be difficult. I shot my sons baseball game with a mono pod and the stabilizer on and the they came out very sharp. I just picked up the TC1401 converter to give extra length as we are going to Yellowstone. I have not tried it with action shots yet.

Q: 8. What's the lens' longest focal length that still has f/5.6 aperture? (My camera's AF limit).

A: From what I can tell, it appears to go from 5.6 to 6.3 right at 400mm. I know I have seen that specific information in a couple of reviews but don't recall the exact change point. It probably also shows up on the Sigma website. Here is where it is going to get confusing. I tried the Sigma on my 5D Mk II which has an f5.6 autofocus requirement and it will auto focus at f6.3 with no problem. With my Canon 100-400mm f4-5.6 and my 1.4X TC that 5.6 jumps to f8 and it will not auto focus. When I tried this test just now it is raining outside so ambient light levels are not very high. So I would expect the f6.3 to be even less a concern with better light. I have both the 7D Mk II and the 5D Mk II and have used the Sigma on each with no auto focus problems. I actually had not thought about the f5.6 need when I used the lens on my 5D recently. Hope this helps.

Q: 9. Hi How good is this compared to the canon 70-300 L IQ?Thanks

A: These are two different lenses as evidenced by their different focal lengths, apertures, and applications. That being said, look at the MTF's and decide for yourself (unfortunately, B&H doesn't allow linking). This has been discussed on many forums including dpreview and others.

Q: 10. can this lens be used on the 77 D ?

A: I think so, any Canon camera with Canon EOS mount will do.

[Yes] I have just returned from Florida where I used this lens extensively photographing birds and am very pleased with the results. I hand held it throughout my trip. I would recommend it to a friend.

[Full-Frame] Quality and Price is good

[f/5 to 6.3] Have used this on 4 outings (2 zoos, a horse farm, and a walk in the park) so far. Am very very pleased w/ it. Makes me want to upgrade some of my shorter lenses to better glass. It is heavy, but especially at the zoo's & the horse farm where I could usually find something to lean on, I was able to shoot & get great pics hand held. Not so much at the park. Needed the tripod there.

[f/5 to 6.3] I use this lens on a Canon 70D for bird photography. The lens works very well in auto focus and provides very sharp photos. I also recently bought the 1.4x 1401 extender which gives me additional range. This extender works well in manual focus with the 150-600mm contemporary lens on the 70D. I don't think that the extender will work with this lens in auto focus with any of the Canon DSLR cameras.

[95 mm (Front)] What a nice lense and for that price. Good deal

[95 mm (Front)] Until I bought the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary zoom, the standard lens I carried into the field was Nikon's 80-400 mm. The 10 Sigma 150-600 is nearly as light but oh so very much sharper. I have photographed everything from dragonflies and butterflies to wild turkeys and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep with it. The lens produced sharp images of each and every subject. I would and have recommended this lens to friends and acquaintances.

[0.2x] I've paired this both with my Canon 6D and 50D and works well with either camera. The optimum combination is supposed to be 500mm and f8, but the images are sharp enough for viewing on my iMac retina display at any combination of f stop and focal length. You can take hand help pix (I need to use my wrist brace for arthritis), but I would suggest at least a monopod for any length of time. Tighten the plate with an allen key, as it was too loose with just hand tightening. The hoodie lens hood cover (size XL, not the L as stated in the accessories) fits well and once you try this lens with the lens shade you will see why the hood cover is essential. Other than size and weight, I think you could easily replace the Canon 70-300 lens (not the L) with this lens for that focal distance and have an equivalent picture. Sweet choice for anyone wanting to do wildlife photography.

[Full-Frame] Researched this purchase for months. I relied on B&H 's reviews as well as reading through any other information about this lens that I could type into a search bar. I had purchased Sigms art lens recently and was very happy with quality of the lens and it's capabilities. The 150-600 contemporary zoom is big and comes in at around 4 and a half pounds and it is well worth carrying to get the shots you can get. My first big day to test the lens was at a spring training Baseball gain and the pictures I collected are amazing. Close ups from the right field bleachers and from behind home plate. Mounted on a Nikon D7200 with a monopod the images were sharp and I was able to stop action beautifully. Since then I have shot wildlife a including birds in flight with brilliant results. Could not be happier with this lens.

[Autofocus] This is an amazing lens for its price, it can be hand held but a tri or monopod makes life much easier. Focus is quiet and fast, the lens lock is great to prevent creep and when carrying. The only thing I would like would be a larger foot option
