As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.

Telephoto zoom is designed for Sigma SA-mount cameras, and when used with APS-C models it provides a 225-900mm equivalent focal length range.

One F Low Dispersion (FLD) and three Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with a rear focus system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

Optical Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to benefit making sharper imagery when shooting handheld.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Dust- and splash-resistant design suits this lens's use in inclement weather conditions and a water- and oil-repellent coating has also been applied to the front element to aid in cleaning.

Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

Zoom lock switch can be activated at any focal length to prevent accidental and unwanted zoom adjustment.

Compatible with optional Sigma TC-1401 1.4x and TC-2001 2x teleconverters.

A removable, rotating tripod collar offers well-balanced support for photographing atop a tripod or monopod with either vertical or horizontal shooting orientations.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can this lens be used on the 77 D ?

A: I think so, any Canon camera with Canon EOS mount will do.

Q: 2. I have a 5d Mark iii - has anyone used this lens to capture photos of the Moon?

A: I have used it for the both the Harvest and Super Moon shots. Outstanding photos with this lens. Handheld with70D.

Q: 3. I am looking or a lens to capture action shots (specifically football) both during the day and at night. Is this the lens for me ?

A: This lens can work for action shots. I took some of baseball and was able to capture my son coming towards me from home to first and keep the action in focus. I like the MO mode for focus which allows you to use both AF and Manual at the same time. I have not tried this lens at night for action shots. Their sports lens is probably the better choice if you can afford it. It is faster at focusing on moving subjects. The lens is heavy so handheld shots would be difficult. I shot my sons baseball game with a mono pod and the stabilizer on and the they came out very sharp. I just picked up the TC1401 converter to give extra length as we are going to Yellowstone. I have not tried it with action shots yet.

Q: 4. Hi How good is this compared to the canon 70-300 L IQ?Thanks

A: These are two different lenses as evidenced by their different focal lengths, apertures, and applications. That being said, look at the MTF's and decide for yourself (unfortunately, B&H doesn't allow linking). This has been discussed on many forums including dpreview and others.

Q: 5. Hi, I am interested in using this lens with the kenko spotting scope adaptor, is it possible to focus it manually with no camera attached?

A: Yes. It is easy to focus manually: Focus ring is close to camera body and easy to turn. Incidentally, it is a great lens for taking pictures.jrm

Q: 6. I have the Sigma 150 - 500 mm. Would it be worth to upgrade to this one? I am more into wildlife.

A: Probably not......600 end is not that sharp unless you stop it down. I'd get a 100-400 v2 Canon if you can afford it and use a teleconverter

Q: 7. Can the tripod collar be rotated 90 degrees on this lens? Or is there a detent that only allows it to be attached in the default position?

A: There are no detents but there ARE markings for lining the collar up to correspond with 90 degrees on each side as well as the default position directly at the bottom. I myself have it rotated in the upside down position to use the foot as a carrying handle when not using a tripod

Q: 8. Is it compatible with a Nikon D5100?

A: It is fully compatible.

Q: 9. What is the warranty in this lens ?

A: Limited 1-Year Warranty with a Limited 3-Year U.S.A. Warranty Extension.

Q: 10. Will it work on a Nikon 750?

A: Yes

[Full-Frame] Have used this on 4 outings (2 zoos, a horse farm, and a walk in the park) so far. Am very very pleased w/ it. Makes me want to upgrade some of my shorter lenses to better glass. It is heavy, but especially at the zoo's & the horse farm where I could usually find something to lean on, I was able to shoot & get great pics hand held. Not so much at the park. Needed the tripod there.

[6.72 lb] Since I'm not the steadiest person, hand holding will not be my main method of shooting with this lens. So far, I've only had a chance to use it indoors with my bird feeder shots. I've placed a bean bag on my window sill and supported the lens on the bean bag holding up most of the weight, while trying to steady the body as best as I could. This has worked well for me. The focus-limiting setting is nice for quick focusing in the close zone (2.8-10m) I don't think the Tamron 150-600 has the close focusing zone option. As soon as the weather breaks, I plan to put this monster on a tripod and check it out at the local lake.

[f/5 to 6.3] This is an amazing lens for its price, it can be hand held but a tri or monopod makes life much easier. Focus is quiet and fast, the lens lock is great to prevent creep and when carrying. The only thing I would like would be a larger foot option

[Yes] Researched this purchase for months. I relied on B&H 's reviews as well as reading through any other information about this lens that I could type into a search bar. I had purchased Sigms art lens recently and was very happy with quality of the lens and it's capabilities. The 150-600 contemporary zoom is big and comes in at around 4 and a half pounds and it is well worth carrying to get the shots you can get. My first big day to test the lens was at a spring training Baseball gain and the pictures I collected are amazing. Close ups from the right field bleachers and from behind home plate. Mounted on a Nikon D7200 with a monopod the images were sharp and I was able to stop action beautifully. Since then I have shot wildlife a including birds in flight with brilliant results. Could not be happier with this lens.

[f/5 to 6.3] If you want to reach out and get sharp pictures then this is your lens. One thing to note is the weight and size--it is somewhat heavy, but NOT for the range this lens has! I have been using a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and a 2x teleconvertor, so this lens is a bit heavier, but the reach and sharpness do not compare! I use it hand held at F16 and 600mm and get sharp pictures. It does take some getting used to, but it is well worth the little effort it takes. Sigma nailed it for me with this lens!!

[f/5 to 6.3] Just received my lens and could not wait to try it. It went on my 60D and ran out to the backyard to snap anything I could find. Only two things showed up. And to be honest, very pleased with the images. Although a bit heavy, something I get get used too its a pleasure to use. Just have to play with it more.

[6.72 lb] Until I bought the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary zoom, the standard lens I carried into the field was Nikon's 80-400 mm. The 10 Sigma 150-600 is nearly as light but oh so very much sharper. I have photographed everything from dragonflies and butterflies to wild turkeys and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep with it. The lens produced sharp images of each and every subject. I would and have recommended this lens to friends and acquaintances.
