The Yamaha EMX 5 is a 12-input powered mixer with an integrated 1260W amplifier, eight mic/line inputs, four stereo line inputs, and two Aux sends. The mixer features a Hi-Z guitar input on channel four and each channel offers a 3-band EQ for custom tailoring your sound. Channels 1-4 offer XLR-1/4" combo jacks. Channels 5 through 12 provide mono XLR inputs, with channels 5-8 offering 1/4" inputs and 9-12 offering an additional set of stereo RCA inputs. Channels 11/12 also include an 3.5mm stereo mini-jack for connecting portable music players.

The EMX 5 includes a single-knob compressor on channels 1-4, an integrated feedback suppressor, and a built-in multi-effects processor with SPX series algorithms. Additionally, the mixer offers a Master EQ, which provides a single knob to control the level of low end. At the far left, the speech setting cuts low frequencies, while the middle position is neutral for music playback. The far right setting provides a Bass Boost to enhance music playback. Optional accessories available include a foot switch for effects bypass and a rackmount kit. The EMX 5 ships with a standard IEC power cord.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you adjust the volume between playback coming from your computer, and the input coming from your mic? Most audio interfaces have an input/playback knob where you can adjust and hear varying levels of the track playing on your computer, and what's coming out of your microphone.

A: Yep. Every channel is individually adjustable for volume including anything coming in from the computer or mic.

Q: 2. Is it possible to hook up this mixer to my a/v receiver (Denon AVR-4308CI) which I already connect to speakers? and how? Thanks

A: Yes, the Yamaha MG10XU could be connected to an AV receiver. You could connect the stereo outputs of the MG10XU to one of the receiver's audio inputs with a 1/4" to RCA stereo cable such as BH #HOHPR003X2.

Q: 3. Are the 1/4 inputs on channels one through four balanced TRS?

A: Channels 1-4 on the mixer are XLR and XLR can be balanced or unbalanced. Depends entirely on how you choose to output the mic channels.

Q: 4. Hi can i connect 4 speakers and a subwoofer I'm going to buy it for my son he has a pair alto TS-415 that he bought here a pair qsc

A: Yes, it is possible to connect 4 speakers and a subwoofer to the Yamaha MG10XU 10-Input Mixer. The Alto Professional TS415 Active Loudspeakers can connect directly to the mixer, and as long as the subwoofer and the QSC speakers are also active (powered) speakers, they can also connect directly or be linked together.

Q: 5. There is Fx in aux section ?

A: Yes. #5 on Page 23 in the manual shows how you can assign and send the internal effects on the Yamaha MG20XU to your aux. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/622736.pdf

Q: 6. Is this mixer same size as yamaha mg16xu ?

A: Yes, the Yamaha MG20XU and MG16XU mixers are both the same size. The dimensions are 17.5 x 5.1 x 19.7" (444 x 130 x 500mm).

Q: 7. Is this a good Mixer for the Shure SM7B? I recently bought this mic and I understand it needs a lot of Pre amp gain, at least 60+db.

A: While this can used with the SM7B, it is highly recommended to purchase a signal booster to add additional gain to the mic before the mixer. An example would be the CloudLifter B&H # CLCL1.

Q: 8. I have an sm57 with very low output. Will this be enough to drive it? The 2i2, m-track and ur22 were not. Thanks.

A: The Yamaha MG10XU should work fine with an SM 57. Its hard to tell as I cant see how you have hooked things up and what is going on. But you should have no problem with that mixer and the 57. The first thing to check is phantom power off as that is a dynamic mic. The next thing to do is bring up the mic pre level to almost 12 oclock. Before you even touch the fader. Its the white knob that says gain. Make sure the switch is in mic and not line and the 20-dB pad is not engaged. Also make sure the main volume on the mixer is up.

Q: 9. Does the Ui12 have the ability to record onto USB? I see that the Ui16 does, but it appears that the 12 does not. I am also seeing a firmware upgrade that might add that functionality?

A: This digital mixer currently does allow for 2-channel USB audio playback and recording.

Q: 10. Can the Ui12 model be rack mounted?

A: The Ui12 is not designed to be rack mounted. USB, Ethernet as well as power switch are located on the left and right sides of the unit.

[25.4 lb] Very versatile. Sounds great. I love the one button compression. Just what we need in a tight space.

[(1 kHz): -85 dB] I bought this mixer to have as a back-up and it is now becoming my 'go-to' mixer of choice. It's lightweight, yet packs a punch and can handle just about any small to medium-sized venue. The digital menu is relatively easy to navigate, not a lot of 'menu diving' needed to get going. I use it in L+R/AUX1 mode (see manual) and hang two 8 ohm cabinets off of each output on the back using two Speakon line splitters and get great results.

[(1 kHz): -85 dB] Im just a garage band guy and have only owned a couple of toy mixers. So I cant give an expert review...But coming from the novice side. ...This is a huge step up in quality and usability from the $40 junk Ive been using.

[25.4 lb] Finally replaced my old Shure Brothers mixer from the 1970's with a modern one. The Shure Brothers was built well and is still in service somewhere but this new Yamaha is so loaded with features and handy connections it had to take center stage. I use it in my home studio to record radio skits. Just right for my purposes: clean sound, lots of controls and streamline design.

[25.4 lb] I use it for videotaping when I need only a few mics or if I am getting a feed from the venue. It has enough features to make it flexible and the size makes it ideal for travel and set up. It has saved me many times when audio has been difficult.

[25.4 lb] Very good mixer! Solid, well-built, and very quiet; everything you need and nothing you don't. We purchased it for use in a church kids' loft, and it performs like a champ. Excellent job, Yamaha.
