Designed for outdoor recording in indie films, TV shoots, nature shows, and documentary projects, the Audio-Technica AT8035 Long Shotgun Miclong shotgun microphone utilizes an extended interference tube to yield sharper directionality and more uniform off-axis tone than many shorter shotgun mics.

The AT8035's moderate sensitivity delivers optimal performance when paired with high-gain, low-noise microphone preamps. With a selectable low-cut filter at 80 Hz, the AT8035 is capable of delivering clear sound while attenuating rumble and bass buildup. Plus, its full-spectrum frequency response utilizes a gentle increase in high frequencies to enhance intelligibility.

The durable housing ensures rugged dependability while maintaining a light weight that won't burden your boompole or camera, and the included accessories accommodate mounting the AT8035 to a mic stand, boompole, or camera-mount microphone holder. Plus, the AT8035 can be operated via phantom power or a single AA battery for flexible device compatibility.

The 14.5" long AT8035 uses a long interference tube and a supercardioid polar pattern to yield highly focused on-axis directionality while attenuating rear-entry sound and rejecting sound at the sides. Compared to the omnidirectional mics found in most cameras, the AT8035 is far more effective at capturing distant sources and reducing ambience. Due to the nature of long interference tubes, the AT8035's tone will be most natural when shooting outdoors or in spaces with minimal reflections/reverb.

The high-pass filter can be set to flat or 80 Hz to roll off low-frequency noise from common sources such as air conditioners and traffic.

Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output and compliance with 11 to 52 VDC phantom powering, the AT8035 is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras. When using devices that don't offer phantom power, the AT8035 may be powered by a single AA battery (included).

The AT8035 includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the AT8035 in the Audio-Technica AT8415 shockmount (available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole and the mic. The AT8035 also includes two rubber O-rings that expand the microphone's diameter to fit the larger mic holders found on many high-end cameras.

The AT8035 has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. Enhanced attenuation of wind noise is possible with the addition of an optional windshield such as the Rycote 24cm Classic-Softie.

For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the separately available Rycote Windshield Kit 6, a complete windjammer, windshield, and shockmount suspension system.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What type of short cable is needed to connect it to a XLR female port on the camera? XLR male to XLR male?

A: The Audio Technica AT875 has a male XLR output, as do all mics with XLR. To connect to a cameras XLR input of similar XLR input device, you will need an XLR male to XLR female cable.Kopul 3000 series cables are a solid choice. a href= http://bhpho.to/1xdCvjQ target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1xdCvjQ/a

Q: 2. can this mic be used with headphones for monitoring?

A: There is no headphone port on the mic. You would need to monitor the sound from the device you plug the mic into.

Q: 3. Do I need to buy anything extra for it to attach to my camera's hot shoe?

A: no you shouldn't need to

Q: 4. Could one get power from a POE connection for a ptz camera to provide the phantom power for this mic connected to a ptz camera?

A: Microphones are not wired to accept PoE instead of phantom power, unfortunately, even though the voltage can be similar. In addition, regardless of whether a microphone requires 48V phantom power, it will also always require amplification first, before it can connect to the input on the PTZ camera. This is because the signal provided by a microphone is "mic level" voltage, which is much lower than the "line level" voltage your PTZ camera expects, and even when powered by 48V, the signal voltage will be the same. A microphone preamplifier is required to bring this signal to a useable level. You could use the Rolls MP13 Mini-Mic Preamp (B&H # ROMP13) with an XLR female to 3.5mm TRS cable such as the Kopul XRSM 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm RA Stereo Mini-Plug Cable - 3' (B&H # KOXRSM03B), in any length you prefer, to connect to the camera's 3.5mm input. The Audio-Technica AT8035 Long Shotgun Microphone requires 11 to 52V for power and the Rolls MP13 can supply 24V. You will also need to use a standard XLR mic cable like the Kopul Premium Performance 3000 Series Neutrik XLR Male to XLR Female Microphone Cable - 10' (B&H # KOM3010), in any length you prefer, to connect the AT8035 microphone to the mic input on the MP13 preamp.

Q: 5. I would like to connect AT875R to Line input in Canon 1Dx II camera, have I to add a phantom power module to run mic, and wich works properly? thanks

A: Yes you need Phantom power

Q: 6. Do you need to purchase separately an XLR cable to connect it to a digital voice recorder like the TASCAM DR100 MKII? If so, any recommendations for which cable to get?

A: The Audio Technica AT8035 will not include a cable. For connecting to a recorder like the DR-100 MKII you will need an XLR mic cable. The Kopul 3000 series cables are an excellent choice. Available in lengths from 1 to 100 feet depending on your application. Please see the following link: http://bhpho.to/1FcPvxy

Q: 7. will this mic work with an AF100? What mount do I need to attach it to the camera?

A: I use the at8410a microphone shock mount

Q: 8. Which case comes with this microphone? I have an old AT815b and my case just fell apart. I need a replacement case

A: The Audio-Technica AT8035 Long Shotgun Microphone includes the Audio-Technica SG1 Case. Audio-Technica specifies the SG3 Case for use with the AT815b Line+ Gradient Condenser Microphone, which is not offered by B&H at this time.

Q: 9. attaching this to the Canon XA10 what cable do i need to purchase? Thanks!

A: If you are interested in mounting the 875R to the XA10, we recommend a short XLR cable. Kopul makes a variety of high quality cables. The 4000 is a premium cable and comes in coiled or straight.

Q: 10. Would this microphone connect to the Zoom H1n? If so, how would it?

A: Technically you can, but it's kind of a long walk. You would need to connect the mic to a Phantom Power Supply, and then to the H1. You may want to consider a self-powered mic (one AA battery) and the correct cable: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1171344-REG/senal_mc24_el_professional_shotgun_microphone.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1221867-REG/kopul_xrsm_015b_xrsm_3_pin_xlr_female.html

[Phantom Power] I love this mic. We do green screen interviews and on location interviews a lot and the range to quality this thing delivers is great. The price point for what you are getting just makes it hat much better.

[1.8 lb] I bought this because my previous shotgun mic was causing too much hissing in my audio. This mic causes no hissing when paired with an audio recorder that has preamps with high enough quality to support it. Very happy with the quality of this product.

[Phantom Power] Is this perfect. No. Can the average person hear the difference between this a one costing 3 times as much. Nope. I shoot talking head videos and interviews both indoors and out. For me works better than a lav. Does exactly what I need. I feed it into a digital recorder and the output is then fed into the main camera (5DIII).

[Phantom Power] I bought this Mike back in 2019, it’s an amazing mic for the price and when you pair it with an H6 and some really good XLR chords it will sound really high-quality.

[Low Cut/HPF] I had an EPK I was doing for a band, and when it came time for interviews I was loathe to use the shotgun mic I had, which had a really high signal to noise ratio, and very weak pickup. Someone offered for us to use this instead, and after I plugged it into my Tascam DR-60 II I was blown away. No perceivable signal noise, crisp vocal pickup. Even more surprising, we were using this indoors which is not a recommended environment for longer shotguns, but this handled it quite well. A great budget option.
