Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does does fit senal mc24 shotgun mic?

A: Yes, the Auray Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones (7") is compatible with the Senal MC24-EL Long Shotgun Microphone.

Q: 2. Is this suitable for a 416 t

A: It works quite well!

Q: 3. What suspends the mic inside? I'm wondering how this works with a boom pole -- I'm familiar with a Rycote suspension where the pole connects to the blimp handle.

A: The shotgun is supported by an open-cell foam matrix surrounded by a layer of 25mm-thick simulated rabbit fur.

Q: 4. It's compatible with ECM-XM1?

A: The Auray WSS-2012 Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones - 4.7" will fit on the Sony ECM-XM1 Shotgun Microphone, but since the WSS-2012 is 4.7" deep and the mic is only 6.5" long, the windshield may be a bit too long for the mic. As a better option, you can use the Rycote Standard Hole Classic Softie Wind-Screen - 3.9" Long, 0.7 to 0.8" Diameter Hole, Gray (B&H # RYS10M) or the RODE WS11 Windshield for VideoMic NTG Mic (B&H # ROWS11). The VideoMic NTG is about the same size as the ECM-XM1 so the windshield should provide a good fit.

Q: 5. Can you use with a Sony FS100 with XLR input and will track be stereo when selected? Which mini to XLR adaptor?

A: The SMX-30 will put out the identical signal on the tip and ring when it's in mono mode so that you can feed the same signal to left and right inputs of your camcorder. I don't know the Sony FS100, but I'll assume it has a pair of female XLR sockets for left and right rather than a stereo 3.5mm socket. I have a Canon camcorder with XLR inputs, and what I use is a cable made by Hosa with a 3.5mm mini plug on one end and a pair of male XLR connectors on the other end. I can't find the model number on the Hosa site, but there other manufacturers of such cables. Search B&H or other vendor web sites for such cables. Since the SMX-30 also has a stereo mini plug, you'll also need to buy an adapter to connect two male mini plugs together (unless you can find a cable with the female mini stereo socket and pair of male XLR connectors).

Q: 6. Does it work with ntg4 + ?

A: Yes. See below dimensions ( the depth spec does work, as 7.1 " is more than enough to cover the mic element / side vents. Auray WSS-2018 Specs Compatible Mic Diameter 0.75 to 0.9" / 19 to 23 mm Inner Depth 7.1" / 18 cm Rode NTG 4+: Physical Color Black Mounting 3/8"-16 Female, 5/8"-27 Female, Mic Clip (with Included Hardware) Construction Material Metal Dimensions ø: 0.87 x L: 10.94" / ø: 22 x L: 278 mm Weight 6.21 oz / 176 g (Microphone)

Q: 7. Is this for 1st or 2nd gen mke 400?

A: The Sennheiser MZH 400 Furry Windshield fits the 2nd generation version of the Sennheiser MKE 400 Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone (B&H # SEMKE400M).

Q: 8. Does it work with Rode ntg2?

A: For proper fitment to the Rode NTG-2 we recommend the WSS-2014

Q: 9. please can mkh 416 fit into it.

A: No it is too short. Use a longer one: Auray Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones (7") B&H # AUWSS2018: https://bhpho.to/3pfb39F

Q: 10. If I'm going to be mounting the AT875R on the camera, not holding it, is there any advantage to using foam cover as apposed to just one of these, or would this do for everything?

A: This is a few years after the original question, but the dynamics are still the same for anyone else wondering if these higher-end dead cats are worth the extra few bucks. YES, there is an advantage over every other option out there, including the lesser-priced ones that are really only the fuzzy part and retrofit over your existing foam windshield. Look at the picture of the cutout on the Auray professional windscreen. See the webby network of nondescript "whatever that is" between the outside of the dead cat (IE the fuzzy exterior) and the microphone itself? THAT is what keeps the wind out. It is made of a pliable plastic, and because of its jumbled weave, it cuts the path of the wind from as many directions as you see "jumbles." In my experience, the fluffy exterior helps more with cutting plosives and with sibilance. Let's put it this way, when I want clean audio, these professional windscreens are what go on my microphones. When I NEED a video that requires an audio sync with wind (a close of leaves blowing, etc), I will record two tracts: one mic with the professional windscreen for clean audio, and the second mic with the mic-kit "foam" one, so I will have "just enough" wind noise to match the scene!

[0.065 lb] I've used this mic now as an on camera mic for my GH4 for about 5 years. Just started using it on my new GH6. The sound quality is fantastic. Super versatile being able to change from stereo to mono without needing to change mics. Nice to not to have to use my XLR shotgun and stereo mics. This thing is super light, super compact, and sounds great!

[0.065 lb] I had tried another brand which I could get to work. I thought the first one had a problem so I got a second one and had the same results. I got the Azden SMX-30 Stereo-/Mono-Switchable Video Microphone and it worked immediately. Very happy.

[0.065 lb] Anyone that desires quality stereo audio in their videos, this mic is a godsend. My video shoots are nature videos, and the stereo quality I get from this mic adds a lot more immersion to my videos. With the switch of a button, I can go into shotgun mic mode, which picks up sound great.

Pleased with both the stereo and mono quality of this mic.

[0.065 lb] I upgraded to a Canon 6D Mii and was super disappointed with the in-camera mic audio quality (recorded in a quiet room with the camera 6 feet from the speaker). So, I was on a mission to find a better mic. The B&H customer service rep highly recommended this mic and I am not disappointed. The audio quality is leaps and bounds above the quality of the in-camera mic and I consider this purchase money well spent. When recording dialogue in a quiet, outdoor setting with the mic mounted on the camera 6 feet from the speaker, the difference in sound quality in mono vs stereo with the low pass filter off and the gain set at neutral (zero) was barely perceptible.

Please note that I am a photographer at heart, I am producing videos for personal use only, and I have no other experience with external mics.

[0.065 lb] The unit is pleasantly compact and light-weight.The suspension is effective (compliant) & sturdy yet compact. Uses two, AA batteries that last about 24 hrs. Though this is significantly less run-time than most otherDSLR video mics on the market, the increased current draw is a direct consequence of the built-inlow-impedance pre-amplifier design. Lower impedance should yield a better signal-to-noise ratio. The easy to access battery door has a nice, sturdy (thick) design. The cord with a 3.5mm mini-jack is not too long (like many) nor too bulky (like one that is coiled). It is permanently mounted with good strain relief. Plug-in connections can be problematic. My audio is much improved and I really like being able to quickly & easily switch between shotgun & stereo with a minimum of equipment.

[0.065 lb] I've had this mic for almost 4 years now and I've always been pleasantly surprised by the audio. It isn't the quality you would get from a dedicated shotgun mic, but for an on-camera mic I have been super impressed. In situations with lots of background noise where I thought the audio would be unusable, it almost always comes through with a great sound and clear vocals.

[0.065 lb] I am not an audio specialist, the tests I have done with regular wind have attenuated the noise quite a bit, although if the wind is strong it can be heard.
It gives a very good presence and should be placed over the foam of the microphone.
No soy un especialista en audio las pruebas que le he hecho con viento regular ha atenuado bastante el ruido aunque si el viento es fuerte si se escucha.
Da muy buena precencia y se debe poer encima del foam del microfono
