The OB-6 Desktop Module from Dave Smith Instruments is a modern, all-analog, 6-voice polyphonic synthesizer that pays tribute to Tom Oberheim's SEM 4-voice and 8-voice synthesizers, but with several enhancements. The synth features true voltage-controlled oscillators, a classic Oberheim-inspired 2-pole, state-variable resonant filter, amplifiers, envelopes, and an LFO. Additional enhancements include studio-quality effects, a polyphonic step-sequencer, and an arpeggiator; all of which can be synchronized internally or to external MIDI clock.

The desktop module's control panel offers knob-per-function control with no menu diving. There are 500 permanent factory programs and 500 user programs which are organized into 10 banks of 100 presets. The OB-6 offers an ideal combination of portability and power for the project studio or the gigging musician.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with Gitzo 1545T?

A: Not that we are aware of, this is a replacement part for Oben Tripods. You may need to reach out to Gitzo directly for assistance with service parts for their tripods.

Q: 2. Is this compatible with MAC OS Mojave Version 10.14.2?

A: Yes this recorder will work with your MAC all you need is to connect the USB from the recorder to the computer, or you can transfer the files using a memory card reader.

Q: 3. How does it sound when you use the 3.5mm jack to record with a cavalier microphone?

A: You can connect a clip on mic to the 3.5mm jack, for more isolated dialog. You would get less background sound with a lavalier microphone.

Q: 4. can I record my song whether with live band or doing self karaoke. will the sound quality be good?

A: It would work, but unit is designed for conversation, not music. Frequency range isn't wide enough for quality music recording. Also, dynamic range is limited.

Q: 5. Can I record from a device with a Line Out, or will that signal be too strong for the microphone input?

A: The 3.5mm input on this recorder would be expecting a mic level signal, so you could us an attenuator cable, such as the Sescom SES-43DB-MZ2P 43 dB Pad DSLR Attenuating Line to Mic Level Cable (18"), BH #SES43DBMZ2P. This cable would bring a line level signal down to mic level.

Q: 6. Is the thread size on the Oben OB-1012 3/8 x 16? I need one for a Gitzo tripod.

A: I don't know. However you can buy one. You can give them a call if it does not fit yours and they will send you the correct one without additional charge.

Q: 7. Hi! How does this recorder perform when recording live concerts?

A: Using the recorder itself without a microphone will have much distortion when recording a concert. A shotgun microphone will be best to use if you are not on stage.

Q: 8. will this work with a Vanguard VEO 235AB tripod?

A: This counterweight hook assembly is only compatible with the Oben AT-3400, CC-2300, CT-3400, CT-3500, and AC-2300.

Q: 9. Is it possible to insert an output cable from a headphone output radio into the microphone input ... to record !?

A: Yes. use this cable: Sescom LN2MIC-ZOOMH4N - Line to Microphone Attenuation Cable for HDSLR Cameras B&H # SEL2MZH4N https://bhpho.to/2XTV6ct DSLR Cable for Zoom H4N and Zoom H1 3.5mm Connectors 25dB L Pad Attenuator 9 Inches

Q: 10. Will this work with iPhone 11?

[12.8 lb] Been waiting for so long to get my hands on one of these! Ever since I opened the box I've been in love. For the price point you can't beat it. I've been using the Korg R3 for about 5 years and a Roland SH-32 for about a year, this is a perfect addition to my setup! If you're in the market for an analog synth.. BUY THIS ONE!

[12.8 lb] The Korg Minilogue is a SUPER fun & intuitive analog synth for everyone from beginners to seasoned synthesits. I've been programming synths for 20 years and this was just as fun as the first synth I ever used. Its analog sound is wonderful and thick. Almost everything has a knob or switch for control and, for the patches I was making, I never went into the menus for further editing beyond naming patches and setting sequencer settings. The shape control of the oscillators gives a lot of variation to your standard waveforms and the sync/ring-mod, cross modulation, & pitch envelope of oscillator two really open up the sonic possibilities. I very much enjoy the dedicated switch for velocity modulation of the filter cutoff and I like that there are only two modulation depths beyond none. My favorite feature of the Minilogue is the envelope modulation of either the rate or the intensity of the LFO. This really gives a sense of motion to what is already a sense of motion from the LFO. My only complaint is that the LFO doesn't go fast enough for analog-FM style tones. It's not nearly as fast as the LFO on the Monologue but that's more of an observation that a full drawback. I really enjoyed the different voice modes of this synth, really finding mono, which introduces a variable level sub, and chord, which creates various fixed chords, to be the most useful beyond the standard poly mode. This is by far the best poly synth I have ever found for someone who is interested in learning analog synthesis. The knobs and switches along with the actual layout of them makes programming make sense and a joy to use. The Minilogue does have mini-keys but the mini keys Korg has been using for their new synths are really great. Much better than the microKORG. With the Minilogue, Korg really show us that there will always be room for one more analog synth.

[12.8 lb] I have to say there are 2 incredible things related to this synth: 1. $1,000 off, and 2. Massive Sound !!

I have had many poly synths like P6,PX,Polybrute,Deep Mind 12,Nina,Juno X. The OB X8 gives me the most surrounding sound feel among all my poly synths.

Plugged with BigSky and this is an instant ambient machine. This setup is just like having a hi end HIFI stereo amp + speaker in front of you.

You can't really have a bad sound with this synth. I am serious.

It's built like tank, all metal enclosure and pretty wooden side panel.

Take this $1,000 off change if you hesitate between OB6 or Teo 5. This is a synth that will last forever.

[12.8 lb] Dr. Bob Moog once said When a pianist sits down and does a virtuoso performance, he is, in a technical sense, transmitting more information to a machine than any other human activity involving machinery allows.

He later refined this to Musical instruments provide the most efficient and refined interface between human and machine of anything we know.

Given the nearly infinitely nature of the evolving relationship between artist and instrument, the achievement of Moog Music evident in the Moog One, in terms of interface design, is nothing short of remarkable.

Not only have the minds at Moog succeeded in realizing Dr. Moog's dream of a fully analog poly-synth, they have done so in a way that makes the myriad of possibilities intuitive to the point of being nearly second-nature.

If you're looking for the inimitable Moog sound, in a package you may never outgrow, this is the One.

I've been enamored with and exploring music for more than half a century. I now have in my grasp sounds I previously only dreamed of...

Thank you Moog Music.

[12.8 lb] This is a board I've been waiting a long time for. It's amazing to have the real sound of the Oberheim legacy at your fingertips. Sending it through a great effects chain, and I'm in synth heaven. The board is physically built like a tank, with a flawless synth action. It has a luxury price, for sure, but it's a beautiful instrument to own.

[12.8 lb] The minilogue is a full fledged 4 voice polyphonic analog synth with 1 LFO. You can save patches (200) and the oscilloscope is helpful for patch building. When recalling patches, there are several options for the knobs too-- the default is to 'jump' to the value that the knob is turned to, but there is also a 'catch' option that won't change the parameter until you move the knob to where it was in the saved patch-- this is very helpful for live performance to ensure smooth parameter transitions! I have been using in both studio and live setting. Overall a surprisingly well made and feature-full analog synth... hard to believe korg packed everything in at such a low pricepoint for analog polys!

[12.8 lb] By now you've likely watched all the video demos and read all the articles so I am not going to write about the technical side of this synth. I will simply say it's well built (in China) and it's super well laid out and sounds like the Oberheim that it is. My only negative is that it is 5 voices instead of 6. Once you adapt your technique it's not such a big deal..the sound quality makes it worth it. You might ask why I didn't pursue the Berhinger.. I want to support Tom Oberheim

[12.8 lb] The Minilogue is a really fun to use synthesizer, with an immediate interface to tweak and a great sound, while also affordable. At first I wasn't so sure about its sound, but had a test drive and it really impressed me (all 3 times in consecutive days). Even as an affordable synth, it has its own thing and can sound amazing. Been using it mostly for pad and keyboard(ish) bell sounds, and it is great at it. Throw in an external delay pedal and you're good for days. Sound-wise, it doesn't have the aggressively low end you find on other synths, but it is very good at mid-range. I love the filter tonality, and while not the most versatile beast, it is certainly capable of doing some impressive things. The hardware is also very well made for what you pay... good metallic plate on top, mini-keys that are way better than traditional ones, all necessary tools for customizing simple and complex sounds (although limited in terms of modulations), nice knobs and switches, ideal size (love this small footprint). There's a single thing I don't enjoy much: the pitch bend lever. I'd rather have a single modulation one... this aside, an amazing little synth.
