Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the Solo only run off of its internal battery, or may it be powered via wall wart or other external power source?

A: You can use either. There is a 120 minute internal battery as well as a power cable.

Q: 2. Does the Live U support HLS - HTTP Live Streaming? Will it in the future?

A: The LiveU Solo SDI/HDMI Video Encoder with 3-Connection Starter Kit does not support HLS / HTTP streaming at this time. LiveU has not stated whether it will support this in the future.

Q: 3. Could this stream simultaneously to Facebook and YouTube and Twitter?Does it get the streaming keys by itself after initial setup, or they have to be inputted every session?Once setup is it a simple operation? Thanks a lotMichael

A: Reports indicate that you can only use one stream at a time. If you log into YouTube, it gets the keys by itself and you can use the same set-up time and time again. If you use Facebook, you have to set it up each time.

Q: 4. SDI has many audio channels. How many does the Solo send in the stream? Only 1 and 2?

A: Thank you. I know the audio is embedded. But my question is how many channels. Just 1 and 2 or more.

Q: 5. LiveU Solo - What other cost is incurred to use this Product? A monthly Fee? How much?

A: In order to utilize the bonding technology of LiveU Reliable Transport, LRT, which bonds multiple connections (2 cellular, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi) a monthly cost of $45 is required. The cellular USB modems are sold separately and usually require a Data Plan. You can utilize the device as a one connection RTMP encoder for no extra cost.

Q: 6. Does this hook up directly to internet/YouTube or to a laptop and from there to internet-YouTube?

A: This connects directly to youtube, etc through an internet connection. It does not need a laptop to function in the field. We have used a cellular usb modem, direct Cat5 internet connection, wifi, and a Cradlepoint cellular device to access the internet with no issues. We start the stream by accessing the Solo website with a smartphone. The events can be pre-configured using a pc but its not required. I hope this helps and we highly recommend using the LiveU Solo.

Q: 7. Can an external battery be used? Also, can this unit work while charging the unit?

A: Hi Brian, Yes, you can use an external battery accessory with the unit and it can work while charging. Thank you for your question.

Q: 8. The $45 monthly fee is for bonding, then I need cellular subscriptions as well? I add the sim cards to the LiveU Solo? How many can I add?

A: You will have to pay for a cellular subscription as well as the bonding fee. The bonding allows you to connect 2 Cellular Networks along with 1 WiFi and 1 Ethernet Signal. You can connect 2 Cellular Modems.

Q: 9. The LiveU competitor VidiU lets you broadcast directly to Youtube from its admin page at no cost provided you do not want to do bonding. Does LiveU offer something similar not requiring a service or is it straight RTMP when not provisioned with a cloud service?

A: yes LiveU will allow you to broadcast directly to a CDN without the use of their service. you can go to youtube, vimeo or any other platforms

Q: 10. Can I live-stream video to some platforms (Wowza, Facebook, ...) without your bonding ( like other encoders: VidiU Pro, Broadcaster Pro, ... ) ?

A: Yes, The LRT (which includes bonding) can be disabled. To do so click the toggle switch Labeled LRT . This can be located by click the orange destination cloud under the Modes tab. This will allow the unit to operate in Direct RTMP mode which will only utilize one connection and send the RTMP stream directly to your destination.

[4.1 lb] Bought this and its matching tx. They seem pretty good. You can select different definitions, FHD, HD, SD, and then can assign them to the 3 types, and allocate bit rates for each. Eg you can select HD, send that to SD and a bit rate of 800 and FHD to HD and a bit rate of 2000 etc. It then selects the resolution type, eg 720P. The only limitation I find a bit strange is that the full range of resolutions, are not available all the time. They vary what is available depending on the Hz, 50Hz or 60Hz of the incoming HDMI. I am using 60Hz, and this does not have 1080i, but if I was using 50Hz, then 1080i would be included.
60Hz has 480i, 480P, 720P, 1080P.
50Hz has 576i, 576P, 720P, 1080P, 1080i.
The other strange thing I notice is that if I select a bit rate of 800Kbps, and then monitor the link at the IP level, it seems to be using about 3.5Mbps.
However, for quality and ease of use, these seem to be great devices.

[4.1 lb] The Osprey is quite versatile and reliable. We have purchased dozens of the G1 & G2 encoders for use throughout numerous facilities in our extensive network. Our primary use is for multicasting, but we also do a number of unicasts and YouTube streams.
Osprey tech support is so helpful and knowledgeable, which is another huge selling point.
We have used numerous other manufacturers products (HaiVision, Evertz, Ensemble Design, and Lynx). All of them work fine but Osprey offered the best quality and reliability for the price.

[4.1 lb] Almost any camcorder produced before 2018 doesn't have NDI capabilities but with the addition of the Birddog Mini, you can make a leap into the world of networked video without any heavy lifting.

Excellent choice for any church or school that needs to stream video but doesn't want to incur the cost of wiring for video. Any HDMI source can be plugged into the Mini and using a local network, connected to a computer with a streaming application such as vMix or OBS. No capture card necessary - it just works.

This is a device that needs to be in the toolbox of any serious videographer.

[4.1 lb] Installed a pair of these to transmit to a projector up on the ceiling. POE made it all quick and painless. The unit at the projector is set to recieve from the other unit which can be plugged onto the network from any location around the stage, booth, or the rest of the facility for that matter. Easy for presenters to just plug on and present without fighting the technology.
