However, assuming that you go from a completed folded state, to just opening the legs, and not extending them or further allowing them to spread, then they are 19.5 inches between the outer edge of the rubber pad on each foot. The tripod fits on a platform as small as 18 inches deep by 19.5 inches wide.

A: The 502HD Fluid Head has a ball base that is a hemisphere. It fits into the concave bowl that's atop the tripod legs. Thus they they work together in complete coordination. It is our preferred combination for video tripods.

Q: 7. I just purchased the MVH502A. A review shows you can screw the 3/8-16 screw into the side. Of course I use that one. Any place to screw the 1/4-20 screw? Both sides only seem to fit the 3/8-16.

A: If you wanted to connect a product with a 1/4 to one of the 3/8 threadings on the side of this tripod you could look in to a reducer bushing. B&H number OB1039 is the Oben 3/8 -16 to 1/4 -20 Reducer Bushing and is a good choice for this function.
