The Movcam Cage Kit for Sony a7S Cameraprovides the added protection, stability, and mounting options needed to get your a7S camera ready from video production use. The kit consists of a form-fitting camera cage with top handle, a riser block, and an LWS 15mm rod baseplate. All of the kit components are machined from aluminum for strength and durability.

The cage leaves access open to vital video recording functions and ports, including the multi-interface shoe. 1/4"-20 threaded holes along the top and sides of the cage are provided for attaching camera accessories. The top of the cage features a removable top handle, providing a convenient means of carrying your carry rig, while providing additional threaded accessory holes and an integrated cold shoe. A second cold shoe is found on top of the camera grip-side of the cage.

At the bottom of the cage is a rail for sliding on/off the included riser block. The riser block attaches the camera to the LWS 15mm rod support baseplate, while elevating the camera to the proper lens height for use with optional rod-based accessories such as a matte box or follow focus. The baseplate features ports for adding optional 15mm rods and is compatible with Movcam's Universal LWS Baseplate System.

A: Unfortunately the Movcam dovetails do not follow the ARRI dovetail standard.

Q: 4. Does this riser block & the corresponding base plate fit the Movcam A7sii cage?

A: The Movcam A7SII cage has a different riser block, which we do not yet have available for a separate purchase. We do however have the Movcam Sony A7II/A7SII/A7RII Accessories Kit which comes with the handle, cage, riser block and base plate available at this time.

Q: 5. Can you attach a manfrotto plate on the bottom of the riser!!?

A: Yes you can. There is a 1/4 -20 thread on the bottom of the riser which allows you to connect it to a quick release plate.

Q: 6. Can this be attached to a standard baseplate or do you have to have the movecam baseplate?

A: The riser block is cut with a dovetail on the bottom intended to slide into the Movecam baseplate. However, the riser block is also drilled and tapped on the bottom for one centered 3/8 hole and four additional 1/4 holes. So, I'd say it's possible to mount the riser on a standard baseplate.

Q: 7. What's the distance between the 1/4 threaded holes (center-center)? is there usually a standard for that distance? thanks

A: I would guess that it is about 3/8th's of an inch. No, there is no known video standard. It is probably a machinist standard however.

Q: 8. What's the screw size that attaches the base to the camera? Is there a way to order a replacement?

Q: 9. Will this cage fit the new a7sii?

A: The bodies of the cameras are different, especially in the grip area. The Movcam seem to be designed specifically to fit the version I grip, so I suspect not.

Q: 10. Will a Sony A7ii fit in this cage?

A: We have not tested this so the combination is unknown. The a7S is (WxHxD) 5.0 x 3.7 x 1.9 / 126.9 x 94.4 x 48.2 mm. The a7II is (WxHxD)5.0 x 3.8 x 2.4 / 126.9 x 95.7 x 59.7 mm. The big dimension of width is the same. The height is 1.3 mm's different: I do not think this will be a deal breaker. The front to back is 11mm bigger but I think that is less an issue. Besides the size, access to the battery and all controls are a consideration with any cage. At this time we will have to wait for Movcam to come out with a a7II cage to be sure.

[8.95 x 8.2 x 6"] I was a bit worried this cage wouldn't be solid enough with one screw point at the bottom of the camera but its very solid. The cage fits the camera very snug. Build quality is good yet very light. I recommend the black version, it compliments the camera very nice. This kit came with the lens adapter support screw so no need buying extra parts. Movcam went up a little in my book. 5

[2.4 lb] I use this cage to not only protect my Sony A7s, but to attach accessories. I used a generic cage before, but the Movcam cage works much better for my personal needs. I used this cage with the A7s for a documentary in NYC, and it worked brilliantly. It allowed me to stay light and portable, while protecting and enhancing my A7s. It feels extremely solid in my hands. The shutter button is a bit hard to reach, but once I got used to it, it really wasn't a problem. 5

[8.95 x 8.2 x 6"] The cage is everything you need an A7s cage to be. Pros: -Conforms to the body of the A7s tightly -Adds robustness without adding too much weight -SOLID Build -Anti twisting design -Gives you a slew of 1/4-20 and 3/8 screw holes all over -Leaves room to comfortably access common controls -Has great included cable clamps -Includes a handle! -Solid rods mounting system -TWO cold shoe mounts for those pesky shoe accessories. Cons: -Is not particularly fast to put on and take off, so expect to have it live on your A7s for the shoot. -The rods mount is very narrow, which is great for adding accessories in front and behind, but doesn't allow adjustments for rig balance -The lens support rod doesn't reach lens adapter bodies. I think you can just buy your own though. -On the pricier side, but at the same time a decent middle of the road rig. The cons are very very minor. We're really enjoying the rig and how it adds robustness! 5

[2.4 lb] I have just gotten this cage and I am extremely happy with it. I primarily shoot single-camera narrative, using matte box and follow focus rig.This cage fits the a7s perfectly, is very well built, and has a locking screw for HDMI out. I'm using mine with the Sony XLR-K1M Adapter and Microphone Kit and couldn't be happier.I am very impressed with this product. 5

[2.4 lb] Simply put, you can not get a better cage for the A7s. I'm currently running a Zoom H6, NTG-2, and Sennheiser 112p-G3 all mounted on top of the cage, and it works beautifully. If you own an A7s, do yourself a favor and buy this cage now. 5

[8.95 x 8.2 x 6"] I bought this product to have more hot shoe mounts so that i could mount an Atomos Shogun and a Zoom h6 on the top of the camera. It works very well fot this purpose. My only complaint is that it is dificult to use all three hot shoe mounts. The handle gets in the way of the mount on the camera. All things considered, it is compact light and solid. The designers really thought about everything when making it. 5
