The Tiffen 55mm Pearlescent Filtercan be applied to purposely soften contrast and reduce sharpness. This can be useful for high-resolution digital cinematography in order to create a more flattering result of a subject by reducing the appearance of blemishes and softening highlights. Additionally, a pearlescent halo around highlights is created which can further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter has a grade of 1/2. Grades of 1/8, 1/4, 1, and 2 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

A: The Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM lens accepts a 77mm filter. With that said, the B+W 77mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter B&H # BWUVXSP77 would be a better choice in terms of size and offers a thinner ring to prevent vignetting. Please see the image below for reference.

[0.15 lb] This filter is going to be on every portrait shot I take from now on. The 1/8 strength is subtle enough to clean blemishes of a 4K or 8MP+ image while not making the image look soft. There are however some conditions where it's not ideal. I filmed a window on a sunny day from a dark room, and the halo effect spilling into the room was too strong and unnatural looking even though this filter's strength is only 1/8. If done under the right conditions, it could give a nice stylized look. 5

[0.15 lb] These inexpensive filters are really a must have for black and white film shooters. Darkening a blue sky is really a nice look! If you shoot B+W film, buy one of these ASAP! 5

[0.15 lb] I use this in place of the IR72 quite often and it delivers. It gives less contrast with some of those IR films and still renders beautiful clouds and foliage. 5

[0.15 lb] I used it at a photo shoot for a wedding. Love the soft look it gives skin tones. I'm not a big fan of bright white tones so this makes the over all photos easier to look at. 5

[0.15 lb] From Ilford FP4 to Rollei Infrared and 80S, this filter adds contrast and separates tones beautifully. Aim your lens at some clouds and prepare to be amazed. Good quality glass, good quality mount and threads. 5

[0.15 lb] Purchased as the full-time protection filter for my Canon 50mm f/1.4 EF lens. Most of my photos are outdoors in available light, and the sky light does cool my photos to some degree. I find this warm UV does warm the images pleasantly but not enough to be obvious or intrusive. I also normally buy Tiffen filters whenever possible; I think they're good quality and they're made USA. 5
