The Tiffen 62mm Satin 1 Filter for Photographycan be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles. This can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject while highlights are softened, contrast is reduced, and textures are given a smoother appearance. Additionally, a halation effect around highlights is created which can further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect while overall sharpness is maintained.

This filter has a grade of 1. Grades of 2 and 3 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

This filter is constructed from water white glass for increased clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ30?

A: This filter will fit any lens with 52mm filter threads.

Q: 2. Dose this filter fit Panasonic lumix 42.5mm?

A: The answer I gave was for the 42.5mm f1.2 lens. I'm guessing now you have the f/1.7, and yes the 37mm filter is correct.

Q: 3. Does it come with a case/pouch or do I need to buy one seperately?

A: Should come in a hard plastic, indestructible Tiffen case. I have a soft folding filter folio that velcros closed, in which I put my filters to carry with me.

Q: 4. Question, I have a Sanyo VPC-E2100 and i'm considering getting a polarizer or UV filter, what would be a good size for it since it's 25mm wide or 4.594.5mm?

A: I use a UV filter as a general practice filtering and protection of my lens Canon 24-105 77 mm which is a very expensive lens. Then I use a 77mm Tiffen circular on top of it which works well for bright reflections or water photography.Hope this helps.Bob D

Q: 5. I have a Nikon D3400 with a 70-300mm lens , will this fit?

A: We would need more information about the 70-300mm zoom lens on your camera. If the lens is a Nikkor lens, please note Nikon made several versions of the 70-300mm zoom lens resulting in some lenses having different filter sizes from one another.Nikon usually indicates the filter size on the barrel of the lens or on the front ring of the lens (where the lens cap would attach to).You can ask for the correct size Tiffen Circular Polarizer once you know the filter size of your particular lens.

Q: 6. What is the difference between the coarse thread filter and the regular circular polarizing filter?

A: Tiffen coarse thread filters have a 1.0 pitch, while the majority of filters have a 0.75 pitch. Thread pitch is the distance between the same point on adjacent threads of a screw, so a larger number means a more coarse thread, while a smaller number means a finer thread.

Q: 7. Will this fit a Nikon 30-110 mm Lens for a j1?

A: According to the NikonUSA site, yes. It says it is a 40.5mm screw on, which is what this is. As someone else said, it is just a matter of looking at the specs. A 40.5 screw on is a standard when it comes to cameras.

Q: 8. How do I remove this filter from the lens? It is stuck on my lens so tight, I am unable to get it off.

A: Same thing happened to me. The only thing that worked was using an oil filter wrench on it.

Q: 9. Does this filter thread on? The one I received seems to only have 1 row of threads to screw onto lens?

A: The Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizing Filter has 77mm front and rear filter threads.

Q: 10. Does it have outside thread ?

A: The filter has front threading for stacking filters or using a lens cap.

[0.155 lb] I got the 1/4 filter and it is just the right amount of diffusion without being noticeable. The Black Satin diffuses the image without sacrificing the contrast and milking the image out. So just the right amount to take the edge off of modern cinema cameras.

[0.155 lb] This filter does exactly what I wanted: Take the hard digital look out of my videos, lowers contrast ever so slightly, and gives a little glow around highlights. I’m using it in front of a Moondog Labs anamorphic lens on an iPhone SE (2020) which has a 4K sensor. Aside from the crumby dynamic range it is hard to believe the footage came from a cell phone.

[0.155 lb] This is my second Satin 2 filter in a bigger size. This filter is great because it is very subtle, but just enough of an effect to take the digital look off of video. It smooths skin slightly and softens hard edges, lifts shadows for a slight reduction in contrast (which helps cameras with low dynamic range) and highlights bloom slightly so you don't get that obvious point where highlights blowout. The halation doesn't take on a warm tone like the black pro mist does, which I think helps keep it a subtle effect.Overall, the effect might be compared to the look of older lenses or a more filmic vibe.

I bought it to use with the iPhone 13 Pro, which has great video, but is too sharp and clean for me. It works with the telephoto lens and wide, but with the ultra wide lens you can see the lens in the reflection of the filter and the little diffusion beads they apply to the filter. Unfortunate, but that lens was designed for macro too.
