The MIOPS Camera Trigger is a versatile way to capture images using lightning, sound, or laser to trigger your camera or flash. It features six different modes of operation with adjustable sensitivity depending on your given shooting situation.

In addition to the lightning, sound, laser, timelapse, and HDR modes enable additional creative output. An external port can connect to various sensors to trigger your camera based on variables such as temperature, pressure, or humidity. An app for either iOS or Android allows you to control the MIOPS from your smartphone using Bluetooth connectivity. When not using a smartphone, all functions can be controlled by a color LCD screen on the unit.

A built-in light sensor detects changes in light and triggers your camera's shutter in just a few nanoseconds. You can capture only bright lightning strikes, or the smallest strikes, simply by adjusting the sensitivity. This mode can also be used to capture fireworks, or other events where you need to capture images based on changes in light.

The MIOPS has a built-in sensor to detect when a laser beam is broken, thereby triggering your camera's shutter. This is useful for detecting subjects such as water drops, animals, or intruders when conducting surveillance.

MIOPS's built-in microphone can detect sound, triggering your camera or flash to capture things like breaking glass, or a popping balloon. You can adjust the delay of the trigger as well as the sensitivity of amount of sound needed to trigger the shutter.

This mode lets you specify the interval time anywhere between one second and one hour, as well as how many photos to take. The LCD screen will turn off to save energy, allowing you to take a timelapse photo for days, or even months if you use an external power source.

Even if your camera doesn't have a bracketing feature, MIOPS allows you to set a center exposure, as well as the over and under exposures needed in order to make an HDR image.

A port on the MIOPS can accept any external trigger that has an output signal between 0V and 3V, such as a temperature, pressure, or humidity sensor.

You can combine sensors with MIOPS's Scenario feature by creating a custom scenarios with up to five different steps. For example, you can set the MIOPS to start taking timelapse photos only after it detects lightning.

MIOPS has two dedicated outputs, one for a flash, and another for a camera. They are electrically isolated from each other, reducing risk of a short circuit. The MIOPS trigger can be used with multiple cameras (not simultaneously) by simply changing the camera connection cable.

The mini-USB port allows you to charge your Li-ion battery, as well as update the MIOPS's firmware.

MIOPS can be used with any cameras which have a remote shutter trigger port or an IR port, and any and flash units with a PC sync jack.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What B&H Miops Kit should I buy for my Fuji X-T1?

A: Unfortunately, Miops does not have a kit that includes a triggering cable for use with Fujifilm cameras. However, you may purchase the Miops Camera Trigger, B&H # MICT, and purchase the Vello 2.5mm Remote Shutter Release Cable for Select Fujifilm Cameras, B&H # VERCCF12.5, separately for your triggering needs with the Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Q: 2. Will this work with Canon T7?

A: The 3 pin version of this will not work with the T7. You would need the one that has the sub mini cable.

Q: 3. Does anyone make an extension for this cable? I want to move the unit farther from my camera.

A: If it is the cable to trigger your camera then you can either make this up yourself with a simple female 2.5mm male and 2.5mm female stereo earphone type jack plug or I'm sure these would be available at any audio type store. This is then obviously connected between the Miops and the camera cable (from Miops). If it is cable to trigger the flash, then these are available both on the flash side of the connector (i.e. between Miops cable and flash) and also as above on the jack plug side using a simple 3.5mm mono extension that either made up or purchased.

Q: 4. Does this work with sony a7riii

A: This particular combination of MiOps camera trigger and cable will not work with the A7RIII; this version is meant for older Sony A-mount cameras. This would be the appropriate combination for the Sony A7RIII - https://bhpho.to/3bZegI2

Q: 5. Does it work with Fuji XT-2?

A: I would like to help you but mine was returned it was damaged

Q: 6. Is the battery replaceable?

A: The battery is not user replaceable. You can charge it from the device only.

Q: 7. How does this compare to a vello shutterboss 2 with remote and cable?

A: I can't compare this to the shutterboss but I can compare to the Vello Stryker Lightning WHICH SUCKS! I have had it for almost 2 months and it does not work properly. B&H will not accept it for a return so I have had to obtain an RMA form the distributor and send it there. I have since bought the MIOPS and used it for fireworks on the weekend. It was very easy to use and work exactly as I expected! Very happy with it so far...waiting for lightning now!

Q: 8. Will this camera trigger work with Pentax k3ii, didn't see any Pentax specific models?

A: You can go to miops web site and from there you can ask them. They are very good at replying back and if anything is wrong with the device they will gladly give you a new one . Very good on warranty I got a bad connection and sent my a new one right away.????

Q: 9. Is this also known as the Miops Smart?

A: I don't know about the MIOPS smart but my experience is it was TOO SLOW for what I needed!

Q: 10. What cable is needed for a canon R5?

A: The Miops Camera Trigger with Cable for Canon 3-Pin Cameras Kit comes with the correct cable to use with the Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless Camera.

[0.52 lb] So far so good. I have used is with the noise trigger and the laser. Works perfectly. The more I figure this thing out the more ideas come in my head on what to try with it. Endless possibilities. Not to self, when using the laser, don't bump the stand the laser is connected to unless you want this thing to fire like a machine gun.

[0.52 lb] The first I got didn't work but B&H exchanged promptly, and, the new one works perfectly. It does work excellent with sound and laser. Good with strikes but need to get practice to get good results. Have not tried with other options.

[0.52 lb] I was playing with this thing over the weekend - using the sound activation, the lightning mode (by quickly flashing a light at it) and the laser (a light shining on it that has a shadow passed over is enough to trigger it if sensitivity is turned up). What a fun tool - can trigger the camera, and a flash with a cable. Everything worked perfectly. Looking forward to a thunderstorm to do an actual lightning capture - the main reason I bought it.

[0.52 lb] I haven't explored the full potential yet but what impressed me was that I placed the order on Monday and received it on Wednesday

[0.52 lb] It works as advertised. Bought it primarily to take images of lightning. used it for the first time during a storm a week after I received it and it was able to capture lightning perfectly. The sound and laser features work great as well, though I have not used them as extensively. Just testing. The color scheme and box design needs work, but the menu system is intuitive and the unit works like a charm.
