Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does anybody make a foam windshield for this odd shaped mic?

A: I don't know of any foam screen that would fit this sE Electronics Voodoo VR2 Active Ribbon Microphone, but I would definitely not recommend using this outdoors. When recording vocals with a ribbon mic, a pop-filter is strongly recommended, as a strong plosive sound without protection can actually damage the microphone element. I would recommend using something like this: https://bhpho.to/3vUTYd6 .

Q: 2. WHAT IS THE WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS FOR THIS PRODUCT?

A: About 12 high, 14 wide, 8 deep (estimating). Perhaps 5 lbs.

Q: 3. Is there any reason this wouldn't work mounted inverted on a boom mic setup?

A: None at all. Just note the weight at about 5 lbs.

Q: 4. Does this have the current hardware mounting upgrade from the 2016 anniversary model?

A: As of January of 2017, B&H received all new and upgraded models of the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter PRO - Acoustic Absorber.

Q: 5. I see the output impedenace is 135 ohms. What is the input impedance? I can't find this stat anywhere on their website. Thanks!

A: sE Electronics lists the recommended load impedance for the DM1 Dynamite Active Inline Microphone Preamp as greater than1k ohms. You can find the complete list of specifications on page 4 of the user manual: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/636703.pdf

Q: 6. Can this be used free standing on a table or does this need to be mounted on a mic stand?

A: It can be used on a table top as long as you remove the piece in the back that would attach it to your mic stand. Works very well for VOs when its flat on a desk or table.

Q: 7. If I am using this with a Blue Snowball Microphone, can I place this filter flat onto a table so it surrounds my small mic? Or does it have to be mounted to a microphone stand?

A: If it were me,..I would either set a cork mat or blanket/towel on the table THEN put the mic and filter atop of that. It might mitigate some potential vibrations or reflection that could come from the hard surface.

Q: 8. Will this device work with Sure Phantom powered shotgun mic over 180+ feet of cable?

A: Yes

Q: 9. Is there a good case to put this equipment in? I am looking to be able to pack it up and take it with me when necessary

A: I have not seen a compatible case for this reflection filter or one like it. I surmise that a case for something odd-shaped such as this reflection filter would be unreasonably large. I have a slightly larger reflection filter that I just bag up in a clear plastic bag, or I put it into a drum throne bag if I want it padded.

Q: 10. Can the capsules be interchanged for omnis? Confusing because the Sound on Sound review said they are fixed but I see omni caps in your inventory.

A: Yes, you can use the sE8 Omni Microphone Capsules - Matched Pair (B&H # SE8OMNICAPPR) in place of the cardioid capsules that come with sE8 microphones.

[9.05 lb] I purchased this because I record demos for a publisher, artists and film and tv. I live in Manhattan and don't have the space for a pop up vocal booth. This unit sounds fantastic. It is so much easier to Ed and mix vocals with the clarity!

[9.05 lb] This helped me to eliminate a majority of the reflections in a small room. It really helps to refine and focus the sound. If you try this I recommend pulling the microphone out as far away as you possibly can from it. I went so far as to get an extension so that I could pull the microphone out even a little bit further than what I would otherwise be able to with the stock hardware. With the microphone set up the way they suggest the sound is too dry for me. I pulled it out to the point that I thought the filter would no longer have an effect and yet it did! Obviously something like this has to be experimented with until you find the perfect placement in your situation. If I would have only used their suggested placement I probably would have ended up returning the product, but as it is I ended up getting perfect results.

I'm primarily using this to record acoustic guitar and vocal with a single take. It made a huge difference in how the guitar sounded! It brought so much definition that was previously lacking. I also find the vocals to have a beautiful intimate sound to them.

Eventually I plan on using this for podcast work as well. I love how it takes the environment out of the recording without losing a sense of space. Again, my suggestion is that you experiment. My microphone is placed much farther away from the filter than I ever thought possible, and yet the filter is working beautifully like that.

[9.05 lb] The best thing about this bundle is the SPACE filter itself. The thing REALLY WORKS and it doesn't make things sound overly dead. It basically gives you the sound of a nice studio vocal booth even if you are cutting vocals in a spare bedroom (like I am). I do both vocal work and voice-over work and this is perfect for both. The stand is very heavy duty (probably more than I need, but who's complaining), and the pop filter works great as well. The cable is just OK, but I have plenty of good cables and it can be used as a spare. Great bundle, great price (based on the sell price of the SPACE alone).
