The passive JBL Professional Control 40CS/T is a high impact, direct radiating passive 8" subwoofer with a built-in passive crossover network. The Control 40CS/T can be used as part of a subwoofer-satellite system and when combined with the Control 42, the Control 40CS/T offers an extremely natural sounding and powerful subwoofer-satellite system that is well suited for applications requiring wide bandwidth and superior sonic performance with minimal visual impact.

The subwoofer requires a 200W amplifier to power the 8" woofer, which provides a frequency response of 50 to 180 Hz at a peak SPL of 115 dB. The system can also be used via an active crossover design with the rest of the Control Contractor in-ceiling line for superior bass response and can be operated off a 70V / 100V distributed line or in direct mode. The Control 40CS/T includes a variety of accessories for installation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How would these be in a 700sq movie viewing room?

A: A pair or two of the JBL SCS 12 Two-Way Spatially Cued Cinema Ceiling Passive Surround Loudspeaker BH #JBSCS12 would be thunderous in the small space you have described.

Q: 2. I paired these speakers with a Pyle amp (Model PTA4) and they sound bad. Is there an amp that will sound good with an AUX input?

A: The JBL Control 26CT - Ceiling Speaker with Transformer (Pair) pairs nicely with the JBL CSA series such as B&H # JBCSA280Z.

Q: 3. what mounting hardware would you use?

A: These are bookshelf speakers. I really wouldn't bother to mount them, you will probably loose a lot of low end. The best way to mount them would be a simple shelf.

Q: 4. CAN IB YPASS TRANSFORMER AND USE OF HI FI AMP SPEAKER TURMINALS?

A: No - the taps cannot be bypassed. These speakers are not designed for home stereo or receiver use:Transformer Taps: 70V: 30W, 15W, 7.5W & 3.7W taps100V: 30W, 15W, & 7.5W taps

Q: 5. What is a good head unit to pair with a group of 6 speakers?

A: The Control 26CT has a built in transformer allowing in it to be used in a distributed audio system. These speakers are able to be tapped at multiple wattages. When connected to a 70v audio system, the amplifier must be rated to handle the sum of all speakers connected with an additional 20% for headroom.

Q: 6. 328c need backbox?

A: No you do not. But you might want to get the front grill. JBL MTC-RG6/8.

Q: 7. do you sale white grille for Control 328ct ?

A: Actually the grill comes with it for free. JBL - MTC-RG6/8 Grille for Control 227C/CT and 328C/CT Loudspeakers. Here is the B&H part number in case you would like to have a look. B&H # JBC328CT

Q: 8. Hello,Is this an active subwoofer or a passive subwoofer?

A: The JBL Control SB2210 is a dual 10 passive subwoofer.

Q: 9. Can these be mounted in a drop ceiling setup? Will they be too heavy for the tile? Will they sound okay?

A: Yes, the JBL Control 16C/T 2-Way 6.5" Coaxial Ceiling Loudspeakers can be mounted in a drop ceiling. This is their intended use and they will sound just fine.

Q: 10. I'm looking at using these for a church system. what do you recommend the placement to be between each speaker on a 9'-12' cathedral ceiling? Do you connect to both 2,3 and 1,4 to daisy chain the speakers or just 1,4 for the loop thru to the next speaker? And finally, can you use a standard 1/4 mono plug to speaker wire to connect the speakers?

A: Unfortunately for such a large job, we would not be able to make accurate recommendations or product suggestions off site. We would highly recommend bringing in a project professional who could inspect your location and make the appropriate recommendations per your design criteria. While we cannot make a specific recommendation, one of our manufacturers does offer this type of service. [52.32 lb] Bought a pair of these for my kitchen's ceiling, they sound great playing stereo music, work great with my home stereo receiver, I chose these because of the smaller diameter size compared to other ceiling speakers designed for home use,the back cans actually are a must since I don't want insulation to get stuck on the woofer cones (for those speakers without back cans),anyway I can always brag about these are commercial grade or contractors grade when my relatives stop by!

[52.32 lb] I bought my first set of Control 5's way back in 1991, using them as my primary monitors on many recordings over the years. Finally, a couple of years ago, the foam surrounds on the woofers gave out and were repaired with a kit, they worked great until a blast from a high-frequency note from a keyboard took out a tweeter, and while this has happened before and was easily replaced, I opted to buy another set. The fact that these monitors have not changed at all in over two decades speaks volumes of their reliability and versatility, not to mention accuracy. I was nearly full analog back in 1991, and have of course transitioned to full digital, and these monitors are an outstanding choice. As with any monitors, the trick is to protect them from accidental damage from stray signals with compression and/or limiters. Great for small to moderate room sizes. I don't have anything bad to say about them, any problems we experienced with them in the studio were caused by the people using them, and eventually, age. Great Product.

[52.32 lb] I used these speakers with JBL 19cs subwoofers for a weight room facility sound system. The total system consisted of 6 - 26c speakers and 4 - 19cs subwoofers. Wiring is made easy with the removable terminal blocks and passthrough wiring. Basically each speaker connects to each other in a line. This installation method reduces cost for speaker wire and labor involved with running extra wire. The terminal blocks have 4 wire holes. For the first speaker in the line will use holes 2 & 3 for the line connecting to the amplifier. Then a wire is ran from speaker 1 to speaker 2. Holes 1 & 4 from speaker 1 connects to holes 2 & 3 on speaker 2. This continues for the entire line. Be sure to properly power these speakers. Both the 19cs and 26c need 140 watts of power. In our installation we used 2 amplifiers splitting the system into left and right sides of the room. Since each amp had 2 outputs of 500 watts for each channel. This provided some headroom for the speakers. On both amps output 1 was was the high and output 2 was the low. Output 1 had 3 26c speakers and output 2 had 2 19cs subwoofers. These amplifiers had a built in crossover feature that splits the signal into high and low frequences which is essential for installing a system like this. A xlr splitter was used to convert the output from the mixer (1 xlr) to inputs for both amps (2 xlr). A cutout template is provided for cutting ceiling tiles. Once tiles are put back in the ceiling the installation can be done without access into the ceiling. The speaker is designed to push up through the cutout in the ceiling tile and clamps down to the C bracket (included). Make sure to have someone assist with installing, these can be insalled with one person but can be difficult for one person to lift, attach wires, put into place, and screw down holders. Overall these speakers work as expected and would buy again. They install nicely and end product looks professional. Nothing less to be expected from JBL.

[52.32 lb] I use these as the left and right front in my 7.1 home theater. Center front is two Control Ones in a series, and the rest are single Control Ones. Subwoofer is 15' 750 watt JBL. I replaced the Control Fives because after years of abuse the LF driver surrounds gave up. There is an LED that lights when the speakers are overdriven.I ignored it. Good professional studio monitor speakers. You will need mounts, and they ate pricey.

[52.32 lb] I am powering the JBL 3181F with a Crown XLS1002 bridged at 4 ohms. While it doesn't get (or much) below 30hz, I never hear this subwoofer distort or bottom out. Its impact is thunderous and devastating. It took my home theater from amateur level bass to cinematic level bass. Best investment I've made so far in my home theater journey. Why try to replicate theater sound when you can purchase speakers made for it?

[52.32 lb] This speaker has lots of punch. I use it with crown amplifiers, and you can really feel it in your chest. You'll need to purchase the box to mount the speaker separately.
