Utilizing a multi-layer coating process for consistent color rendition from lens to lens the Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine DS Lens for Canon EFanswers the challenge of assembling a set of lenses over time. The lens comes in a Canon EF Mount and features industry standard geared focus and iris rings that share common position with other Rokinon Cine DS lenses. To aid focus pullers who have to work both sides of the lens, the aperture and focus scales are marked on both sides of the lens.

This 24mm lens produces a 84.1° FOV when used with full-frame cameras. Hybrid aspherical lenses render sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations, with a minimum focus distance of just under 10" from the lens. A removable petal shaped lens hood provides flare protection when shooting without a matte box, the lenses threaded front accepts a 77mm filter ring.

Please note that some cameras may require that Shutter Lock be disengaged when using this lens.

Ultra Multi Coated lenses minimize flare and ghosting, and the lenses are color matched to a standard eliminating the need to acquire an entire set of lenses at the same time.

ED, extra-low dispersion glass, helps reduce chromatic aberration and can improve contrast and color saturation.

Industry-standard gearing for focus and aperture rings. Each lens in the Rokinon DS series share common focus and iris gear ring positions, which speeds up lens changes as accessories such as follow focus units or iris motors don't have to be re-positioned.

"De-clicked" aperture ring for smooth iris pulls.

A minimum focusing distance of 9.8" allows you to get up close to your subject.

A removable petal-type lens hood provides flare protection without a matte box.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What exactly is the difference between these Cine DS lenses compared to their equivalent non-DS lenses? I get that the DS lenses have some new markings to make it easier to look at focus and adjust exposure. But what is the difference in the DS lens that makes it cost about $200 more? Also, what different markings are there on the lens that make it obvious this is a Cine DS lens compared to the previous models? If you were looking at the two side by side, how could you tell the difference?

A: ) All of the gears are unified among all Rokinon Cine DS lenses. The focus and aperture gears are exactly aligned so that the user does not have to re-adjust his/her follow focus when swapping out lenses. 2) The new Cine DS lenses now feature dual focusing scales, one on each side. 3) All of the Cine DS lenses are tested to be color matched to provide the same color & contrast in video production.

Q: 2. What size filter does it use?

A: 77mm

Q: 3. What is the multiplier when used on the JVC GY-LS300 MFT mount with super 35 Sensor? Is it 1.5x or 2x?

A: JVC GY-LS300 MFT is 35% larger than a standard MFT

Q: 4. Does it support auto focus?

A: No, the Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine DS Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount is a fully manual lens.

Q: 5. Hi, what is teeth size of apperture and focus rings?

A: Cine 0.8 pitch.

Q: 6. Will this fit on the Blackmagic Ursa Mini?

A: Yes, you can get it with a EF or PL mount.

Q: 7. Since this is a manual lens, what adapter do I need to get this to fit an EF mount cam?

A: As the flange distance between an EF mount to sensor (more distance) and Micro-Four Thirds/MFT (less distance) mount to sensor varies, an EF mount lens can be mounted to a MFT mount (with adapter), however an MFT mount lens will unfortunately not be able to be mounted to an EF mount, with an adapter. If there was such an adapter, the lens would likely also vignette with its MFT mount, it is a smaller mount opening. In short, the Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine DS Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount, would not be compatible with an EF mount camera.

Q: 8. Can I used for photography purposes? what's the difference between a photo lens?

A: It can be used for photos, however you will be unable to autofocus at all since there are no electronic connections with the camera. This will perform similarly to other Rokinon manual lenses, but what makes it designed for video is the focusing gears for use with a follow focus system. If you're using this for photos keep in mind those gears may be uncomfortable to focus with your hand. Another difference is the de-clicked aperture ring that is measured in T-stops instead of F-Stops. No clicks means a smooth change of light coming in so exposure changes don't look choppy in video. T stops are an actual measurement of light that comes through the lens, whereas F stops are ratios and an f/1.4 may let more or less light in from lens to lens. The numbers will still yield similar results, so T/1.5 on this lens is close to an F/1.4 or 1.8 on a photo lens, just a different method of marking it. This lens can also be a little long and heavy depending on what you're pairing it with (would look ridiculous on an a6500 or something small), so another option is the newer Rokinon AF 35mm that might be better for photos and is much more compact

Q: 9. Is this camera mount altered in any way to accomodate emount? What I Mean is that has the flange been elongated for the emount? Is this emount lens from Rokinon made for emount or has a ring or some type of adapter been welded or molded onto it?

A: You can mount it straight to the camera

Q: 10. Can I use this lens on a Blackmagic Production Camera 4K?

A: Yes, if you have the Production Camera 4K with EF mount this lens is compatible.

[Full Frame] I just got this lens and put it to work right away in a very low light basement scene with only small dimmed LED wire lights on blue for lighting. Shot it on a bmpcc4k w/speed booster, lens set to T2, 3200 iso and the scene looks fantastic!!! No noise whatsoever!!! If u know how to properly set a lens, lighting, ect - this lens is a must have. My new fave over my Nifty Fifty lens.

[Canon EF] I had been looking at upgrading my EF lenses from the kit Canon lenses that come with just about every bundle to a lens that not only fits my personal taste but also my budget. The Rokinon Cine DS line was the perfect fit. This 24mm lens not only looks great but also comes as close to a true Cine lens as possible on a budget like this. It's a great lens if you can't afford the more precise cine lenses. Overall, this one will be one of my go to lenses for video production.

[77 mm] I am a college student with a very limited budget. I recommend this to any indy filmmaker/those starting out. This is a great cine lens. Great built, very smooth aperture ring and focus ring! I would not hesitate to buy another cine lens from Rokinon. Best bang for your buck!

[Full Frame] First, I mainly use this lens on Sony bodies. I've used it on an a6300, an A7S II, and an FS5 using two FotodioX adapters (one that just passes it through, one with a built-in variable ND filter) and a Metabones Speed Booster. This is actually why I prefer using Canon lenses on a Sony body - it effectively multiplies your capabilities. No matter what I'm doing, I can pull a great image from this lens.

An interesting side note: Rokinon lenses can focus beyond infinity. This is incredibly useful when you're running them through the speedbooster, which moves your focus point out a bit (in my experience). Your new infinity is now where the focus ring physically stops when using the speedbooster, rather than the infinity mark.

As with most of the Cine DS series, it's a bit soft until you hit around T4-5.6 (I've found this one gets tack sharp around T4). I actually like the softer look for video work, as I feel that it looks a bit more classically cinematic than a tack sharp image does.

All in all, it's an utterly beautiful lens. I'm looking forward to using it more in the future! Paired with my Rokinon 50mm lens, I don't really see myself needing anything but the two for most of the work I do.

[1.71 lb] I have LOVED moving away from the Canon L series 24mm to this lens. It's not QUITE as bright, but the SMOOTH focus and iris rings are incredible. I'm also loving being able to have my shutter speed set and ISO low, and quickly being able to adjust exposure with the iris ring. It's making my run and gun workflow so nice that I would love to trade in my Canon 50mm for the new Rokinon 50. Super pleased. And this thing is a third of the price of the Canon or something like that!

[Full Frame] Love this lens. Love the cine ds line. Its soft at T1.5 but at T2.0 its tack sharp. More sharpness than needed for 4k video.
