The 62mm Formatt Hitech 62mm Firecrest ND Filter, 6-Stopis a solid neutral density filter providing a 6-stop reduction in exposure. This 1.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the Schott Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order maintain truer colors and contrast. The multicoating is also scratch resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. The filter is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring, which features front threads for stacking additional filters or attaching a lens cap.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

ND 1.8 filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.

Providing a 6-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multicoating is water and scratch resistant for greater overall durability.

Schott Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a ND filter I can used with a 10-24mm lens that does not band or vignette? for a Tamron SP 10-24 77mm

A: This ND filter is optimized for use with wide angle lenses, so vignetting will be kept to a minimum, if there is any at all.

Q: 2. Does the 82mm SuperSlim CPL create vignetting on a 16-35GM?

A: It does not.

Q: 3. Does this have hard stops?

A: No.

Q: 4. Will there be any color shifting in the image?

A: All ND's and particularly variable ND's can have some color shift, especially as you go darker. Since it depends on the camera, the lens, the f/stop, the light and the photographer, we cannot say for sure if you will experience color shift. Since Formatt Hitech is a well regarded company, it is our feeling that your time with the filter will likely be positive.

Q: 5. will this filter vignette with the Canon EF 16-35mm F4L lens?

A: You may experience vignette with this filter on the widest end of the 16-35mm Canon lens, depending on the camera you are using.

Q: 6. does this have ir control?

A: This is not for controlling Infrared light.

Q: 7. I just watched a video on YouTube where the gent says there are NO filter threads inside but the specs here list that there are?

A: I contacted Formatt-Hitech with your inquiry. They state that the Formatt Hitech 77mm Firecrest SuperSlim Circular Polarizer Filter, B&H # FOFCSSCP77, has 77mm front filter threads. They state you may stack multiple threaded filters onto each other as long as they all have the same 77mm filter thread diameter size.

Q: 8. Could you please tell me, if this filter be compatible with 7artisans Photoelectric 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens for Micro Four Thirds? Thank you!

A: As the 7artisans Photoelectric 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens for Micro Four Thirds has 39mm filter threads, yes, the Formatt Hitech 39mm Firecrest SuperSlim UV 370nm Filter would be compatible for use on the 7artisans Photoelectric 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens.

Q: 9. What thread pitch has this filter?

A: The Formatt Hitech SuperSlim filters are 5.5mm thin. Nov 30, 2014

Q: 10. Can I use this with the Formatt Hitech 100mm Aluminum Modular Filter Holder Kit?

A: Hi

[62 mm] I've been refining my ultra slow photography techniques for about a year now and figured it was time to graduate to 'the beast' - Firecrest's Nd1600. The results are amazing with the clarity I was hoping for, minimal barreling and silky smooth threading onto my lens.

Ultra slow photography is the most technically challenging in my photo skill set (I use a Pluto Trigger to do the math for me) and having a reliable 16 stop filter to rely on helps keep me focused on the art rather than the techno details.

[62 mm] I didn't see any reviews here, so I'd chime in:

I purchased this with the Sigma 105mm f/1.4, and surprised that it has no noticeably color cast (compared to some ND filters for my 85mm lens).

I'm quite satisfied. The glass is very thin and light, like 30-50% of the weight of a UV filter for the same diameter.

I use this to get wider apertures in the studio setting, given that my strobes can remain fairly strong, and the ambient lighting can either be cut at higher shutter speeds (1/200) or introduced at lower speeds (1/30-1/60). A joy to use.

[0.15 lb] Another ND filter in my tool kit. Different brands can produce somewhat different effects. Some people like it, other's don't. I prefer to look at it as another option when making my picture. It is nice to have options. Optical quality is awesome, and that is what matters.
