Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can the tripod/centercolumn be angel adjusted to make it level, like eg a 75mm bowl head on a videotripod?

A: No, this tripod does not have a leveling base, it only has the ability to angle 90 degrees laterally.

Q: 2. Can this be used with the Sirui Gimbal?

A: Yes, you will be able to use this tripod with the Sirui PH-20 Gimbal Head, B&H # SISUPH20. https://bhpho.to/2VBZSHW

Q: 3. What is the load capacity of the leg that can be used as a monopod? How effective is it compared to a dedicated monopod?

A: My guess is take the total and divide by 3. I like the monopod from Sirui that has a small set of three legs. It stands on its own. However, I would not trust it to hold a camera.

Q: 4. How will this handle exposure to water (streams, lakes, ocean) if the legs are partially submerged?

A: From customer feedback, the Sirui N-3204X Carbon Fiber Tripod can handle being partially exposed to water. Sirui recommends their W series for use in and around water. Take a look at this similar model: B&H # SISUW2204.

Q: 5. would this work with the nikkor 200-500?

A: Yes, this plate will work with the Nikon 200-500mm lens.

Q: 6. Will this tripod stand up to Alaska in March ?

A: I own and have used this tripod for 10 years, using it in Canadian winters when the temps get to -25C/-13F without any problems. I bought an Acratech ballhead which works perfect as a combo. Big investment that has given me years of trouble free use. If shooting in deep snow, sand or some other loose, unstable surface, I recommend you buy the Manfrotto retractable spiked feet attachment and the Manfrotto 230 all weather shoes (set of 3) that clip onto the spiked feet. I bought all of it here on B&H. That way you won't get that sinking feeling!

Q: 7. How do you change the leg angle????

A: At the top of each leg is a release clip that allows leg adjustments to be made at set angles. :) In the pictures, the release clip is the part that says "Jobu Design Algonquin" on it.

Q: 8. Does the center column have a hook at the bottom for attaching sandbags?

A: no it does not

Q: 9. Will the older Manfrotto plate work as well, or do we have to but all new plates?

A: This head works with the RC5/Q5 quick release plates. The older RC2/Q2 plates will not work with this head.

Q: 10. Hi would like to know if this head will fit on the 190x legs. Thanks

A: The base diameter of this head is significantly larger than the top plate of the 190x legs (80mm vs 60mm) so it will overlap. But it will attach. This head was designed with the larger 057 legs in mind.

[5.35 lb] I purchased the Algonquin tripod two months ago prior to a trip to Utah, California, and Wyoming. We photographed in Rocky Mountain NP, Arches, Natural Bridges, Antelope Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Seqouia, Yosemite (got rained out), Death Valley, and Yellowstone. I had the chance to use the tripod at home for two weeks prior to the trip. All features of the tripod worked flawlessly. I bought a Really Right Stuff leveling head to use with the Mark IV gimbal head which I had also purchased from Jobu. On the trip, which lasted five weeks I took many land scapes, panoramas, and wild life images. I put some indexing marks on the gimbal head and was able to take double row panoramas. I used a nodal bar an could mount my camera on the gimbal head with a short lens. I used a Canon MarkIII with a 24-70 2.8, 24-105 and a 100-400. I was able to easily set up for photos and the tripod and gimbal head were extremely stable and adaptable to all situations. I used the set up in Bryce in four inches of snow, Death Valley at over 105 degrees and in Yosemite in fog and rain. All of the equipment functioned flawlessly. The locks on the tripod were very secure and never slipped in any way. At one time after an 18 mile combination mountain bike ride and hike (tripod in a backpack) to photograph the Wahweep Hoodoos. I did get some sand in the tripod legs. Afterwards I was able to easily diasemble the locks and clean the sand from the legs. The gimbal head was extremely smooth and locked up tightly. The Really Right Stuff leveling head made leveling the gimbal head a snap. The tripod was extremely stable and my images turned out very well. Everywhere I went the tripod and gimbal head attracted attention from fellow photographers. All were greatly impressed with the quality and performance of the tripod and gimbal head. I would highly recommend this set up to anyone using either short or long lens setups.

[3/8"-16 Male] Upgraded from an old Manfrotto, and I absolutely love this one! It has a great feel to it, the release joints are easy to use, yet super secure. 10/10 recommend to anyone if it's within your budget!

[3/8"-16 Male] This tripod is light to carry and solid in the wind. It's exactly what I needed for my spotting scope. I added a bit of padding for my shoulder and am enjoying it a lot. A big improvement from my old aluminum one.

[30 x 5.3 x 2.1"] I have been using the Jobu Algonquin carbon fiber tripod and HD4 gimbal head since Jan 2015. The combination provides exceptional stability, strength, and rigidity for my Canon 500 f/4 prime lens and 7D Mark II. The results are phenomenal and I am completely satisfied with the performance. The large rotating locks make leg adjustments fast and easy, even when wearing thick winter gloves. The carbon fiber legs provide excellent stability with minimum weight, and will support up to 66 lbs! I highly recommend this tripod for any serious photographer who needs to support 400 mm to 600 mm pro lenses in the field mounted to pro bodies, and carry them over the shoulder all day.

[3/8"-16 Male] Purchased for a gifted professional bird photographer. When it arrived I was just a tinge jealous, but being a shorter guy that likes a tripod that fits in a small bag this would not fit my needs. Nonetheless it impressed me as rock solid, very easy lock and unlock with the twist action, beautifully crafted and an ideal tripod for a 500 mm lens used in bird photography. Bought this brand because of great luck with the same brand of gimbal head purchased.

[Twist Lock] The Jobu Algonquin tripod is worthy of a great review. What strikes me more than anything is the simplicity of the design and features, which equates to reliability and ease of use in the field. There is nothing on this tripod that is superfluous, but there is everything that you absolutely require of a good tripod. I am fortunate to have found this tripod because it provides me with the confidence to take it with me into wilderness areas where it gets abused more (by packing it in), and has to handle wind, weather, and rough terrain. Even though Jobu themselves say that it is not a back country tripod because it is too heavy and bulky, I have come to learn that it is not a problem to carry a 4 pound tripod vs a 2 or 3 pound tripod - a little extra weight will not break my back, and the quality of photos, along with the reliability, is of unquestioned value. I have been able to use other expensive, high quality tripods, but easily, and happily, settled on the Jubo design. I fully agree with all the other reviewers that this is an outstanding tripod, and when compared to the other leading tripod manufacturers, is a fantastic value.
