Ultra wide-angle prime is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 30mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions.

Two extra-low dispersion glass elements are used in the optical construction to reduce a variety of chromatic aberrations and color fringing for a high degree of clarity and color neutrality.

Two aspherical elements are featured to control spherical aberrations and distortion in order to produce notable sharpness and resolution.

Nano Crystal and Super Integrated coatings have been applied to lens elements to minimize surface and internal reflections for a marked reduction in lens flare and ghosting.

Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. A rear focusing design is also used, where only the rear lens group is moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Question for you night shooters: Any downsides to using this lens for night photography? Milky way, star trails, etc. Seems it would be ideal. I have a 17-35 2.8 and a 24-70 2.8. Would either of these be a better choice?

A: This lens is absolutely sharp and completely up to the task. I own both the 24-70 2.8 and the 20 1.8 among many others and I would use the 20 1.8 for astrophotography as mentioned before the 24-70 because it is a better focal length and faster lens more suited to this specific task.

Q: 2. Will this lens work on my D800?

A: AbsolutelyAbsolutely. Many days I use this lens as my walk-around lens.

Q: 3. Is this lens compatible with my nikon D3200?

A: Yes, this will work on your D3200. The DX crop factor of the D3200 will yield a 30mm equivalent. My Nikon 20mm f/1.8 is a fantastic wide lens with superior detail for landscape and great low light lens on my D700 and current D850.

Q: 4. Will this lens take a CPL filter or any other screw-in filters?

A: Yes, but you might want to re-think using a polarizer with an ultrawide lens, at least when there is a lot of sky in the frame. You'll need a different polarizer angle for different parts of the sky and any one setting will leave some parts of the sky looking different.

Q: 5. Is this compatible with a Nikon FM10 film camera?

A: No. Although the camera will mount the lens, you won't be able to adjust the aperture since the lens does not have an aperture ring and the camera is fully manual.

Q: 6. Nikon d5000

A: Yes

Q: 7. At its current selling price, is it a USA or Import version lens?

A: In situations where B&H offers both a USA and an imported version of a product, we label each version clearly and explicitly. If a product does not have an indication either way, it is understood to be by default a USA product. In situations where only a USA version is offered it will not be labeled USA.

Q: 8. Is it Made in Japan?

A: Mine was made in China. I don't use it a lot, but I have been pretty pleased so far.

Q: 9. How well will this perform handholding on a Nikon D800E?

A: I normally use a tripod for most of my landscape photos taken with lens; however, the handheld photos taken with the lens are very sharp. I try to keep the shutter speed 1/125 or higher when handholding, but have still gotten good results below this speed using the lens indoors. I am very happy with the photos using this lens with my 800E. It has become one of my favorite landscape or indoor lenses.

Q: 10. Has anyone tried it with a Hoya R72 filter ? Hotspots ?

A: I used it with a converted Nikon D800 720nm and I had no hot spots.

[94°] Love this lense. Going to Hawaii in 8 weeks and looking forward to using it there. Great company to buy from. I almost always buy my gear from B&H.

[Full-Frame] I'm using this lens on a Nikon D810 and shoot landscapes. This is a very sharp lens and may be one of Nikon's sharpest. Edge-to-edge and corner-to-corner sharpness are superb and the lens has excellent contrast across the frame. I love this lens and it will be a permanent part of my kit.

[7, Rounded] This is one more f1.8 option from Nikon. Lightweight, construction is ok (not as well built as the 1.4 options), lens is sharp, even wide open. Distortion is easy to correct. Great alternative to carrying the 14-24mm heavyweight all the time. Takes 77mm filters, very useful.

[Nikon F] Very big improvement in all areas over previous model which I though was an excellent lens. The new lens is much sharper and less distortion and the speed enables this to be more usable especially in low light or indoors with available light. Is it worth the upgrade, yes absolutely. This may be the best performing lens of any manufacturers at any price. I my opinion this lens is underpriced in comparison to the much raved 24mm. That is many times more in price. I do a lot of interior shooting and this is far better performance for the money it is the best lens bargain for that Nikon has released or anyone in along time. A true value that in the past would not even be in same performance with modern lens technology. This does but a new beach mark for this focal length. Get one soon, it will be a wanted and needed lens when the word gets out. Thank you Nikon for bringing a superior product at a very affordable price.

[Autofocus] Impressive lens!, I use it on a D610, I already own the 24-70 2.8, but I wanted something wider than 24, but not that expensive as the 14-24 2.8 is (at least, not for this time), the 14-24 2.8, I've tried it before, and it's an amazing lens too!, but right now, I'm looking forward for the 70-200 2.8 so I don't have the money for the 14-24 2.8, so I decided to put the money on this new 20mm 1.8!, as soon as I unboxed it, I felt how light it is, I like the fact of being light, since the 24-70 is around 2.3 pounds! (1kg) but at the same time I didn't like it, because it feels like a very cheap and fragile lens, which is not!, it's well built, very similar to the 50 and 85mm AF-S lenses, it could have been a bit heavier, something around 500 gr, and being nano coated, with the gold ring, should have been made in Japan!!!!!!!!, anyway, it balances well with my D610 and the vertical grip, the quality of the images is impressive, tack sharp from f/1.8 to f/16!, very very sharp in the whole frame!, I like the POV it offers in FX and the low light capability, the autofocus is fast, as soon as I have tested the image quality, I can recommend it as an alternative to the 14-24 2.8!, there's nothing the 14-24 2.8 could do better, just built of the lens and the 14-24 range, otherwise, I don't see any differences in image quality, at all...even bokeh is creamy and very very nice!!!!I can recommend this lens for DX shooters, but just in case you will step up to FX in a short time, otherwise I don't find it that useful, since there is the 10-24 and 12-24 DX of course not being 1.8! or the alternative Sigma 10-20, which I owned it before (f/3.5 version on DX) and it's a very nice lens too!For those who are looking for a wider lens in FX and not breaking the bank with the 14-24 2.8, or the 14mm prime 2.8 or even the 16-35 f/4, go for it!, you will not regret it! :)I'm very satisfied with this new lens!

[0.23x] I sold my 16-35 f/4 and replaced it with this lens. This lens is lightweight and sharp. I have used it for coastal landscapes; I will use it for night time sky photography and storytelling as well. I don't miss the size and weight of the 16-35.
