Ultra wide-angle prime is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 30mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions.

Two extra-low dispersion glass elements are used in the optical construction to reduce a variety of chromatic aberrations and color fringing for a high degree of clarity and color neutrality.

Two aspherical elements are featured to control spherical aberrations and distortion in order to produce notable sharpness and resolution.

Nano Crystal and Super Integrated coatings have been applied to lens elements to minimize surface and internal reflections for a marked reduction in lens flare and ghosting.

Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. A rear focusing design is also used, where only the rear lens group is moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Have a D700 FX Nikon is this compatible?mm

A: Fits my D750

Q: 2. Will it work with the D3500? I plan on using the lens for landscapes.

A: Yes this lens is compatible with the Nikon D3500, with a crop factor of 1.5X applied to the focal length.

Q: 3. I have a Nikon F5, is this lens compatible and will it auto focus with the f5?

A: Yes.

Q: 4. At its current selling price, is it a USA or Import version lens?

A: In situations where B&H offers both a USA and an imported version of a product, we label each version clearly and explicitly. If a product does not have an indication either way, it is understood to be by default a USA product. In situations where only a USA version is offered it will not be labeled USA.

Q: 5. Has anyone used this lens for night photography, star trails, night painting, and such?

A: Mitchell: I personally have not, but I've seen photos from plenty of people who have, and have used it sucessfully in the situations you describe. You should be fine with this lens. The F/1.8 aperture will allow fairly short (comparatively) exposure times, if that's what you want.I use it mainly for landscape situations, and it's a SUPER lens - razor sharp.Al G.

Q: 6. How bad is coma? I have a D750.

A: This lens has minimal coma but can be corrected easily in post.

Q: 7. Will this lens auto-focus with my D3100 camera body?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S 20mm f/1.8G lens has a built-in focus motor, which allows it to autofocus on the Nikon D3100.

Q: 8. Is it Made in Japan?

A: Mine was made in China. I don't use it a lot, but I have been pretty pleased so far.

Q: 9. Has anyone tried it with a Hoya R72 filter ? Hotspots ?

A: I used it with a converted Nikon D800 720nm and I had no hot spots.

Q: 10. if your photographing people is there any distortion on the edges?

A: Like every other rectilinear (non-fisheye) ultra wide angle lens, this lens too will not be kind to people's heads at the edges of the frame. That result, which is of course undesirable, is not the fault of this lens or any other, the fault is in being too close to the people. This lens is no better and also no worse than the alternatives. It can be corrected in some software, like DxO Optics Pro. DxO included that correction a few years before this lens was released - because it is a problem with ultrawides in general, specifically with an improper use of ultrawides.

[77 mm (Front)] Have been enjoying this lens since I bought it two weeks ago. It's sharp at 2.8 on my D600, tack sharp at F 4. Lighter and easier to carry around than my 16-35, it's a keeper.

[1.37 lb] I sold my 16-35 f/4 and replaced it with this lens. This lens is lightweight and sharp. I have used it for coastal landscapes; I will use it for night time sky photography and storytelling as well. I don't miss the size and weight of the 16-35.

[7, Rounded] Impressive lens!, I use it on a D610, I already own the 24-70 2.8, but I wanted something wider than 24, but not that expensive as the 14-24 2.8 is (at least, not for this time), the 14-24 2.8, I've tried it before, and it's an amazing lens too!, but right now, I'm looking forward for the 70-200 2.8 so I don't have the money for the 14-24 2.8, so I decided to put the money on this new 20mm 1.8!, as soon as I unboxed it, I felt how light it is, I like the fact of being light, since the 24-70 is around 2.3 pounds! (1kg) but at the same time I didn't like it, because it feels like a very cheap and fragile lens, which is not!, it's well built, very similar to the 50 and 85mm AF-S lenses, it could have been a bit heavier, something around 500 gr, and being nano coated, with the gold ring, should have been made in Japan!!!!!!!!, anyway, it balances well with my D610 and the vertical grip, the quality of the images is impressive, tack sharp from f/1.8 to f/16!, very very sharp in the whole frame!, I like the POV it offers in FX and the low light capability, the autofocus is fast, as soon as I have tested the image quality, I can recommend it as an alternative to the 14-24 2.8!, there's nothing the 14-24 2.8 could do better, just built of the lens and the 14-24 range, otherwise, I don't see any differences in image quality, at all...even bokeh is creamy and very very nice!!!!I can recommend this lens for DX shooters, but just in case you will step up to FX in a short time, otherwise I don't find it that useful, since there is the 10-24 and 12-24 DX of course not being 1.8! or the alternative Sigma 10-20, which I owned it before (f/3.5 version on DX) and it's a very nice lens too!For those who are looking for a wider lens in FX and not breaking the bank with the 14-24 2.8, or the 14mm prime 2.8 or even the 16-35 f/4, go for it!, you will not regret it! :)I'm very satisfied with this new lens!
