For capturing audio the Audio-Technica AT8024 Stereo/Mono Microphoneby Audio-Technica AT8024 Stereo/Mono Microphonecan be used in several environments, on DSLR and video cameras, for applications such as weddings, conferences, sports events, and more. It features a selectable line-cardioid mono, and internally matrixed mid-side stereo mode and provides the flexibility to focus the recording on a single sound source, or to widen the field for more sonic realism. The AT8024 can deliver much improved audio than the supplied camera's internal microphone.

The AT8024 is built with a three-position adjustable input pad (-20 dB, -10 dB, 0 dB) to capture soft and very loud sound passages without distortion. A switchable low-frequency roll-off reduces pickup of undesired ambient noise, room reverberation, and mechanically coupled vibrations. The microphone is powered by a single AA battery for optimal performance with high max SPL, and features an integral camera shoe mount that attaches to DSLRs and shoe-equipped camcorders. A 39" coiled cable with a 1/8" mini-jack, AA battery, windshield, fuzzy windscreen are included.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is a good boom pole for a mic like this?

A: I only use mine mounted in a flash shoe either on camera or on my camera platform. The attached cable is about 18 long. Unless you buy an extension cable a pole won't work.

Q: 2. Will this mic work with the Leica SL2S?

A: Yes. The Audio-Technica AT8024 Stereo/Mono Camera-Mount Microphone BH #AUAT8024 • MFR #AT8024is plug and play compatible with the Leica SL2-S Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Q: 3. Does this fit the Audio Technica AT8035?

A: No, the Audio-Technica AT8124F would not be suitable for the AT8035. For that microphone the Rycote Standard Hole Classic Softie (BH #RYS24M) would be recommended.

Q: 4. Does this mic work with the Nikon D90?

A: No. The D90 does not have an external mic input.

Q: 5. will this mic work with my canon vixia HF R500?

A: Rico, it should work just fine, see page 84 of your manual. However, note that I do not see a hot-shoe mount on your canon model. Which means it would have to be attached to your camera somehow (rubberbands) or hand-held, which would not be optimal.

Q: 6. Will this microphone work with a Vixia G21?

A: Yes, it will.

Q: 7. Is this compatible on a Sony Mirrorless A7R IV?

A: Yes, the Audio-Technica Pro-24CM - Stereo Microphone is compatible for use with the Sony a7R IVA Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 8. Is this battery powered or externally powered? One review mentions changing the battery ("required needle-nose pliers"); but the specs here say "Power Requirements = 2-10VDC plug-in power". So which is it?

A: According to the Audio-Technica page for the Pro 24-CM underneath the "Features" tab; You can use it with an LR44 battery in microphone inputs that are not equipped with plugin power. Or, you can use it without the LR44 battery with microphone inputs that are equipped with mic plugin power. https://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mics/97a500a93cd279a8/index.html

Q: 9. Will this record audio only and does it write to the memory that's in your camera ?

A: This is a microphone. If your recorder has a mic in input then the sound this mic picks up will be recorded to your recorder, camera, or camcorder. I've tried a few and this one is a very capable microphone that will surpass the poor microphones normally found in cameras and camcorders. The unit uses a AA battery to handle the power needed and that is a big plus. It mic can operate as a mono shotgun mic, or a stereo mid-side mic with a built in decoder that makes mid-side work and gives a more spacious (more ambiance) sound than a mono shotgun. I own dozens of microphones and this is a worthy investment for those seeking better audio than the on board camera/camcorder mics can manage. It is well engineered and worth the investment, in my opinion. TM Soundview

Q: 10. Baass sound good?

A: Yes, it captures low frequency sound very well, very accurately, without being overwhelming. I record at music venues, and it captures the bass just like being in the room.

[Black] Does a pretty good job. Normal, I would not use the sound on my 5D MK3 but sometimes, in manual mode, its acceptable. This mic makes it acceptable.

[11.8 x 5.3 x 3"] My only issue is that with my R-10, the plug prevents being able to flip the rear LCD screen, but that isn't a big problem. I use it to record piano and string music mostly, and it works well. I find that using the -10 dB filter improves the sound quality.

[11.8 x 5.3 x 3"] I got the AT8024 just before going on a trip where I am shooting surfing scenes. Lots of wind, motion, etc. and the mike is doing a great job. Picks up ambient sounds like birds in early morning, rain falling, and is excellent with voices as well. Really easy to use, very portable and lightweight, and only uses one AA battery. Great mike for travel and I'll see how it does over time.

[Hypercardioid] I read reviews of many mics before settling on this audio-technica and was a bit apprehensive about the sound quality. It goes without saying that any external mic sounds better than an in-camera mic, but still, I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality. I use it in combination with a Sony a6500 and I find the sound sufficiently rich with good rendition of bass and overall quality. I could compare it with an audio -technica shotgun AT835B and with a RODE SVM mic and found it of near similar quality. The sound is richer than that of a zoom H1 going through the camera. I am pleased overall, but I am an amateur/semi-pro videographer and did not do any technical comparisons.

[Solid-State] We shoot videos about menswear trends and style tips, we had a rode but it wasn't the right application, this is same size and 3x video. B&H staff we're super helpful in finding it and right on point per usual.

[Solid-State] As a GH4 shooter, I don't know how I did without this. It's so easy to use and if the sound gets too loud there is a switch to pad the volume down two levels. With the GH4 I shoot with the camera audio set as low as it goes and with loud sound I'm still peaking. With the Audio-Technica switch I'm not peaking. And the shotgun setting is fairly decent. I also have the Zoom H6 which works great too, but it's very cumbersome for run-n-gun shooting. I am glad the B&H salesman suggested this unit. Thanks B&H.

[Hypercardioid] I very much enjoy this mic! I am very pleased with the audio I recorded using this mic so far! I like how easy it is to use right out of the box. The addition of a wind screen with purchase is much appreciated. I was very surprised by the range at which I was able to record. I was able to record a raven calling above some aspen trees! Very impressed! Thank you Audio Technica for such a solid product!
