Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. 1. What happens when signal lost or disconnect one of the SDI input - does it show black on missing input or show some test patterns or solid color?2. Can we disable audio meters / file names / input names to have clean multi-view feed to monitor?

A: Got Answer from Chris.H (Thank you) B&H and Decimator The DMON-6S can be set up to either generate its own reference (free run) or use one of the inputs as a reference. If its set up to use free run or an input other than the one thats pulled then it will continue to show an output with just that window showing its background colour. The background colour can be selected in the USB Control Panel software, available free of charge for Windows and Mac. For the application your customer has described I would recommend setting it up so that Reference is set to Free Run nd background colour is set to black. You can remove all in picture overlays (audio meters, graticules, UMDs and status displays) from the multi-view output to show just the input sources.

Q: 2. is it possible to have 5 inputs in the MW. one must be centered in the middle of MW?

A: Yes

Q: 3. Noticed DMON16s doesn't have a way to flip images vertically and horizontally, like the MD-QUD. WHY?

A: Decimator offers no explanation as to why the image flipping feature was not included. Eventually a firmware update may add this feature. Decimator says that the engineers do regularly add improvements to existing products.

Q: 4. Are the various outputs able to show different things (for example, 8 inputs out to 2 monitors show as 4-up on each monitor) or do the two outputs mirror each other?

A: Use as a 1-to-12-channel multi-viewer or 12-to 1-input multiplexe . Each quadrant is independent of the others, allowing any 3G/HD/SD format of any frame rate to be displayed simultaneously

Q: 5. i need to go from my macbook running obs via Thunderbolt 3 and have 3 outs. one too my teradeck bolt for livestream via hdmi, one too my led wall laptop via hdmi and one sdi to a projector. can this do that?

A: No the DMON-6S would not work for multiple splits, it combines multiple inputs into one screen. You could use an Apple HDMI adapter (APMUF82AMA), a 1 x 4 HDMI splitter (KASPHD1X44K) and a HDMI to SDI converter (BLCMCHS3WPSU) to connect to all three devices.

Q: 6. How does one name the individual umd's 1-16 on the dmon-16s?

A: You re-name via the USB control panel, or dynamically via serial control.

Q: 7. I want to connect 4 PTZ cameras to this for the camera operator to view then loop each independent camera feed to a switcher. Can this do that?

A: Yes you can. Each input has an active loop output.

Q: 8. Is it possible to use the loop out and multi view at the same time? My setup is that I will have 2 SDI inputs from my PTZOptics cams, loop those out to my BMD Mini Recorders, but I want to be able to monitor both of those feeds on the same screen. I'm also wondering what the output resolution of this device is? Is it dependent on the inputs? Right now I'm having an issue where my PTZOptics cams have to be set to 1080p30 as that's the max my BMD Mini Recorders will support. The cams can output HDMI and SDI simultaneously, so I thought I'd just plug the HDMI feed into one of my monitors, but my monitors apparently don't support 1080p30, they throw an error asking for 60Hz. Any feedback / suggestions is appreciated.

A: Hi Taylor, This is Jules from Product Support at Symbiosis, Decimator's master distributor for your region. You can configure a DMON-4S to receive SDI on inputs 1 & 3 then use the ports for inputs 2 & 4 as loop outputs of inputs 1 & 3 respectively. Inputs 1 & 3 are still available to use in the multi-viewer, although obviously you then only have two inputs available for up to four windows, depending on how many windows you wish to show on screen. The four HDMI outputs can be individually controlled so each output can be configured to either be the output of the multi-viewer or a loop output of any of the SDI inputs. If you need a hand configuring it when it arrives please feel free to contact us at support@symbiosis.com. I hope this helps. Kind regards Jules

Q: 9. My church use Sony D50 I was wonder would this work with it...and would we still need to use our switcher?

A: Yes it could.

Q: 10. Can the internet be used as an input? Can I show 8 different netflix shows simultaneously?

A: Not the way you ask it. It only accepts HD-SDI BNC connections for Cinema/TV Professional Cameras. You would need 8 seperate devices connected to the internet then a HDMI-to-HDSDI Converter to plug in each device to view all 8 shows. its still only 1080p best. So each of the 8 signals would be Standard Def at best on the screen.

[2.81 lb] This quad multiviewer is awesome. I love decimator design products. It has so much versatility. UMD, tally, audio monitoring. The only negative is it isn't easily manipulated to make a layout. The default layouts are decent but if you want to be able to change a layout design on the fly this isn't your guy. I still give it 5 stars. There is quite a lot of versatility in this little package.

[Yes] We use this product as a multi-viewer for remote tapings. The fact that is easily configurable makes it a great tool since we rarely use the same set-up. The USB download for controlling the unit is great and very easy to use.

[2.81 lb] This multi-viewer is perfect for it's features. The loop through of the inputs makes it better then the 16 input model and the 4 input model allowing you to preview camera shots or records and still feedback into your system. I use it in 6 way and 4 way output, but you can configure it in many different ways. it has a hdmi output for local monitor and two additional SDI outputs which you can then send to the Producer or whomever needs to see the MV. Highly recommend for your workbox.

[Yes] Unbelievably good product. Can be used in so many different ways, not just as a multi-viewer, although it excels at that too. Very very cool. My only complaint, and it's not really a complaint, is that there isn't a GUI for creating new custom layouts. It's not difficult to create them, but you have to type in numbers. Just inconvenient. Oh yeah, and not very good documentation for the computer control software.

[Yes] This is a wonderful piece of gear. We use it for our robocam operator for live productions. He can see his robocams on his own multiviewer, then we use the active loop outs to go to the main switcher.
The softwareto customize the Multiviewer is great as well.
Highly recommend.
