    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the black cover come off?

A: No, the black backing is fully integrated into the umbrella and does not come off. Profoto does manufacture a translucent white version of this umbrella - but that's obviously expensive. If you're looking for a lightbox option to pair with the umbrella, I'd suggest the umbrella diffuser - it is a lot less expensive that another umbrella and definitely extends the range of lighting options the umbrella provides. - I hope this helps.

    Q: 2. impactreversible

A: If you mean does it reverse? No. Not sure what the question is otherwise. maybe it was a typo. P

Q: 3. What is the folded length of this umbrella?

A: The folded length of the Profoto Deep Small Umbrella (33", Translucent), BH #PRUDST is 29.5 " x 7".

Q: 4. Hi, Profoto certainly makes outstanding lighting gear but do you think their umbrellas are worth the extra cost? Is there a visual difference? How much of a difference is there between the deep and shallow Profoto umbrellas? Thanks. Paul

A: I thought that there would be no difference before I bought one, but now after using the Deep Umbrella a couple of times, I feel that it is worth the price. The light output is nice and even, with some drop off as opposed to a normal umbrella that spreads light everywhere. Plus, I have found that the deep umbrella tends to be easier to control the direction of the light since it reflects from the inside of the umbrella instead of through it, like a normal umbrella. Finally, the construction is top-notch and the fiberglass rods inside seem much more durable that the other umbrellas I already have. The outer layer is much thicker and the steel rod is rigid. Because of the heavier duty construction the unit weights a little more than a normal umbrella, but it's not that noticeable. Paired with my B1, this is a great modifier for me on the go, rather than using a Softbox that requires me assemble it. This deep umbrella pops open and attaches in seconds.

Q: 5. Does this include a diffuser with it or do you have to buy one separately?

A: It does not include a diffuser. The recommended diffuser is BH# PRDUS MFR # 100990

Q: 6. Can this umbrella be used with other/any moonlights?

A: The Profoto Deep Small Umbrella (33 , Silver) would be compatible with all light fixtures which use the standard 8mm umbrella shaft. As Elinchrom light fixtures require a 7mm umbrella shaft, this umbrella is not compatible with Elinchrom monolights.

Q: 7. What are the dimensions for the umbrella folded into the included carrying case?

A: The dimension of this umbrella folded down in its original case is 29.3 inches long x 5.5 inches wide.

Q: 8. Has anyone used this umbrella with speed light? I plan on using it with Canon 600ex-rt. Hope it will work fine

A: Giorgio, I am using this umbrella with my B1s. They don't have an exposed flash tube and it still works great. Yes, the results are even better when I use my glass dome, but even with the B1s alone I get great light.

Q: 9. Hi, I would like to know if there is any light leak through the umbrella's fabric itself when used as 'shoot in'?

A: I have this umbrella and used it several months. I did not see any light leaks. Seems light the light coming off the umbrella is softer. Hope this helps. Sol

Q: 10. Will this fit on my b1?

    A: Yes

[Black] They last a long time so you don't have to spend money replacing it

[White] I like a large, semi-controlled light source without the hassle of assembling light boxes. Most shallow umbrellas spray light everywhere and reduce the efficiency of the strobe. The umbrella packs conveniently in with my light stands and allows for quick set-up and tear-down. It lacks the control of a softbox with a grid but that is not always necessary. For location work where time is a factor, it does a great job. I have a smaller sized deep umbrella made years ago and the two work together well. It is a quality made product. I wish a smaller size was available.

[1.5 lb] I can only compare against Paul Buff umbrellas and right away I could tell this thing is built to last. Not to say the PCB one is bad but this one just has attention to details, like the spring mechanism to open, the stitching, etc plus is really, really white, no tinge of yellow or brown. I use it as a shoot through for portraits and it works great with my PCB Einstein.

[1.5 lb] Bought 2 of these because my olds ones were badly beaten up after yearssss of work. Anyways, these new ones are great and compact in their bag and work like a charm.

[White] Got this as my first one to see what the difference is ... yes, you pay for the Profoto brand, but the product lives up to it ... so far.

Spent years with umbrellas failing after moderate use. These umbrellas are better built and seem to use better materials ... we'll see. The proof will be apparent late on.

[White] I use these in a portable set up for portraits. They are small and light weight, but have a very nice light quality for there size. They seem well made but are a bit pricy. I will be buying a second set for my other portable set up.

[Black] I purchased this umbrella with the small diffuser. The construction is what you'd expect from Profoto. Great materials with a solid feel. It comes with a nice protective case. It's easy to open and setup with my D1 Air. Sure there are other, cheaper alternatives but I figured I'd buy something of quality once and not have to worry about it. Let's just hope I'm not eating my words!

[1.5 lb] This is a very well made umbrella. Built to last. I went for a cheap version when I was just starting in photography and it broke like nothing. This product is made for people like me... photographers on the field. You will never regret the investment.

[Black] Because I do a broad range of on site photography I recently purchased a set of umbrellas in various sizes made by Profoto. Though I had not used any of their products the reviews looked good but I was skeptical about the higher cost. I sometimes shoot in small locations with wood stained walls which are not desirable to bounce flash from so I started with the 33 inch white. These umbrellas were so much better made than anything that I had previously used that I decided to try replacing an old set of soft boxes with another set of Profoto's larger silver deep dish with diffusers. I now have two small white 33 deep dish, one medium silver 41 deep dish w/diffuser panel and one large silver 51 w/diffuser panel to cover various size sets and they are much more durable, better constructed and offer a nice reflection of light. The deep dish design allows for better control of light and feathering and add the diffuser to silver umbrella for an alternative to soft boxes with much quicker and easier set up/tear down and compact portability. I have used all of these umbrellas in my studio with good results and plan to carry them for on location photography. Both the umbrellas and the diffuser panels come in their own pre-labeled, individual durable protective cases and can be easily packed into your light stand case. Pricey but worth the $$.

[Black] It's great for small portraits and large enough to light up half of a dance floor.
