The SONUUS Voluum is a volume-based multi-effect stomp box with a digitally controlled high-fidelity pure-analog signal chain. Constant high-voltage (>30V) analog power rails ensure high-headroom with low distortion and low noise for maximum signal clarity. A high-bandwidth fully-analog signal path ensures that there is no digital distortion to corrupt your signal, and allows high dynamic range signals to be processed flawlessly. Digital control gives you the ability to store presets and remotely control the effects via MIDI.

The effects chain comprises five effects-noise gate, compressor, LFO (tremolo), volume control and limiter-which can be used in any combination. Voluum features 30 factory and 100 user presets, a transparent noise gate, a smooth pedal-controlled compressor, and a choice between transparent-true and buffered bypass. A custom-designed patent-pending pedal sensor that, unlike conventional potentiometers, is less susceptible to dirt with no mechanical couplings and provides precision control.

The Voluum has a USB connection and standard 5-pin MIDI connections. Any effect that can be controlled by the pedal can also be controlled by MIDI messages, allowing you to automate effects or remotely control them in real-time. It's simple to tweak settings on the carefully designed control panel. Once you have created what you want, you can save it to one of 100 internal presets.

Voluum's fully analog signal path features a high-performance studio-grade voltage-controlled-amplifier (VCA) with low noise and low distortion characteristics. A constant high-voltage analog power supply gives maximum analog performance and high headroom to ensure that even loud signals can be processed without artifacts. Combining the analog signal path with digital control gives you precision and configurability

The effects chain comprises five effects (noise gate, compressor, LFO (tremolo), volume control and limiter) which can be used in any combination

Unlike other volume pedals, the Voluum does not operate using a potentiometer with mechanical couplings or optical methods. Instead, it features a position sensor that allows fine precision control with no mechanical couplings that is not susceptible to dirt or wear

The range of the Voluum parameters is designed to match both guitar and bass, as well as other instruments such as keyboards, so you can save settings and switch between instrument-specific set-ups

A silent-switching true-bypass circuit provides the benefits of true bypass without the associated switching noise. Additionally, if the power to the Wahoo is interrupted, the unit will automatically switch back to the bypassed state, so you don't lose your instrument's signal

With the Voluum, you have control over whether you want to use true-bypass or buffered-bypass. Buffered-bypass keeps the Voluum in the signal path at all times, but passes the input signal without modification when the effect is bypassed. This can be useful when using long cables-the buffered output of the Voluum means these long cables won't affect your tone, even when the effect is bypassed

The compressor in Voluum features an intelligent make-up gain, which also allows dynamic modulation. For example, you can smoothly vary the amount of compression being applied without affecting your signal level. Variable attack and release times let you configure the effect to suit your performance and even these can be pedal-controlled. The Voluum compressor gives you glitch-free pedal-control to enhance the subtleties of your music

Tremolo is a classic effect where a low-frequency-oscillator (LFO) modulates the volume of your instrument. The Voluum LFO (tremolo) lets you recreate this effect, while giving you many more options. It provides smooth tremolo sounds with multiple waveforms, featuring envelope and pedal-controlled speed variation as well as MIDI-clock sync to keep the tremolo in time with your sequencer. Duo mode gives you two LFOs to let you get really creative

The volume effect on Voluum gives you basic control of your signal level by replicating the function of the volume knob on your instrument without compromising your tone. Voluum lets you cut or boost the signal level to any level you desire while providing fine control over the feel of the pedal. You can also configure fades where the pedal acts as a switch and the volume fades up or down smoothly over a preset time to give you smooth fades that are difficult to do just by using foot control

In envelope mode, the level change is triggered when you play a new note or strum a new chord. Combined with built-in ADSR shaping, you can create synth-like tones from your instrument

The high voltage analog power rails in Voluum ensure sonic quality, but it means that high output levels can overdrive other effects in your chain. The limiter effect can be engaged to limit the signal peaks to keep them within the range of your other effects to avoid nasty clipping distortion. It can also limit asymmetrically, which can add sweeter-sounding overdrive to limited signals

The Voluum noise gate not only gives you control over the threshold, but also enables fine control over how quickly it reacts and how much the signal should be reduced in level. With smooth transition from open to closed mode, Voluum gives you transparent gating that reduces the noise when you're not playing without introducing any audible artifacts

Meters to let you instantly see what's happening with dedicated meters for the volume level, gate and compressor gain reduction

The Voluum comes ready-to-play with 30 factory presets that include traditional volume effects and pedal-controlled compressor effects. By tweaking the factory presets, you can explore different sounds and create your own effects-there are 100 user presets where you can store your own set-ups

The Voluum features both USB-MIDI and standard 5-pin MIDI connections. You can send MIDI to the Voluum to control effects, or send MIDI from the Voluum to control other MIDI devices. USB-MIDI allows MIDI messages to be sent straight to a computer, whereas the 5-pin MIDI connections make it easy to connect the Voluum to other MIDI equipment

USB connection lets you connect Voluum to a computer where the Desktop Editor Software allows visual preset editing and manipulation. Presets can also be saved to and loaded from files for exchange with other Voluum users. Program change messages can also be sent to Voluum to select the effects you need for particular songs

MIDI and USB-MIDI can be used to sync the internal LFO and to automate the effect parameters. The expression pedal also sends MIDI controller messages to drive software instruments and effects. You can also use Voluum as a standard USB-MIDI interface where MIDI data from your computer can be routed to/from the 5-pin MIDI ports

The effects on the Voluum are not static, where you adjust the parameters to get the one sound you want. The Voluum allows control of many aspects of each effect so that effect parameters can smoothly go between the hi and lo values that you choose. This modulation can be controlled using the pedal, MIDI controllers, or the signal envelope

Although you can access all of the effect parameters from the Voluum's control panel, to make it faster and even more intuitive, the Desktop Editor Software application can be downloaded from the Sonuus website on registration. The software runs on both Microsoft Windows and Apple OSX

The sturdy aluminum chassis ensures that the Voluum will stand up to the demands of the toughest gigs. The large bright display is readable outdoors but can also be dimmed when required in low-light environments. A lock switch ensures that settings cannot be changed accidentally in the heat of a performance, but still allows you to select which preset to use. Foot-operated selection of presets lets you access what you need with minimum hassle. Powered by 9 VDC, 4xAA batteries, or USB, you can be sure that Voluum will fit into your rig

To support new features and to make it future-proof, the firmware (internal software) of Voluum can be upgraded

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. In the paragraph above the four-item bulleted list it says that the unit delivers a linear frequency response from 20 Hz to 18 kHz but the second item in the bulleted list says Linear response from 30 Hz to 20 kHz . Which is it?

A: Hello Ray, Thank you for your interest in Radial. Although not ruler flat, the Trim-Two is linear (+/- 1dB) from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Regards, Ryan

Q: 2. what is the input impedance?

A: Unfortunately pedal specs available do not include input impedance. The FV-500H is however specifically designed with a high impedance input for direct connection to guitar or bass. For specific values you may wish to contact the manufacturer directly.

Q: 3. Will turning the trim knob down all the way mute the output? Or will there still be a noticeable signal?

A: It is a trim not a mute so depending on the source you may hear it at a low level with the trim all the way down.

Q: 4. Can this be installed in existing finished ceiling? If yes, does it require additional mounting hardware or does it install directly to Sheetrock?

A: It can be installed directly to sheetrock using toggle bolts or a different type of anchors.

Q: 5. Could this be compatible with a Yamaha P121?

A: I'm sorry, but the Kawai F20 double pedal will not work together with a Yamaha P121. Instead, I would recommend considering options like these, which would be compatible with the P121: 3-pedal unit, with stand (both products are required, to use these pedals): https://bhpho.to/3FmL3je https://bhpho.to/3I6onp4 Universal single pedal: https://bhpho.to/3zWAYIG

Q: 6. Would this work for headphones as well?

A: Yes, this will work with headphones. Note however that it will not amplify the signal as it's a passive device, it will only allow you to attenuate it down.

Q: 7. Is the power supply multi or just 110v?

A: The included power supply with the Electro Harmonix Memory Boy Pedal is only rated for use on the US 110-120VAC standard.

Q: 8. So this remote apparently communicates with the GLM network adapter - does the GLM software need to be actively running on the host computer to use this remote, or can the network adapter simply be powered (by USB I presume) with no GLM software running?

A: Yes, the Genelec 9101A Wireless Volume Control for GLM User Kit is capable of communicating with the GLM Network Adapter when the adapter is powered with a USB adapter as well as while it is connected to a computer over USB. Pages 69/70 of the GLM Operating Manual linked here provide more details: https://bit.ly/3wIhS8U

Q: 9. The top surface has a "mono/sum" printed on it. Is there a right-side switch which sums both inputs to one of the outputs?

A: The Mono/Sum switch on the right side of the Radial Engineering Trim-Two Stereo DI with Volume Control converts both outputs to dual mono, so using either output will deliver the same exact mono signal, so you have the option of using both outputs or just one output for your setup.

Q: 10. Is this unit for speaker level adjustment or just line level?

A: I bought this unit for line level control and it works great
