Authored by notable photographer, Peter Hurley, this publication begins with some of Hurley's classic recipes for producing effective shots, including his trademark "white background, flat light, chopped-off heads" look. Over the course of more than a dozen chapters, the book covers technical topics on lighting, composition, and camera setup, as well as how to establish a rapport with your subjects, how to gain expression from your subjects, and how to direct your subjects, with specific focus given to adjusting jaw, smile, eyes, and eyebrow positioning. This guide serves as an all-around foundation for producing effective portraits of a variety of different subject types.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the bag (Rugged - STREAK 15 Shoulder Bag) that comes with the kit, fit the Sony a6000 with the 16-50mm lens on, plus the 55-210mm on the side? Need to know if I have to buy another bag to carry all this.

A: Short anwer is no. The bag is rather small and will carry the camera and one mounted lens but has no rooms to carry extra lenses.

Q: 2. I want to know if the camera comes with a charger. And also if my Nex5 batteries works with this camera... I have also the emount Sony 18-200 lens, does it work with the a6000 aswell? as soon as I know I'll do the purchase. Thanks. Rubn.

A: The camera comes with a USB cable and a wall adapter. I bought an after market battery set that included two batteries and a wall battery charger. I tend to leave the camera on most of the time in sleep mode, so it is ready at any moment to take a picture. You will definitely need at least two to three batteries, and it is a nice option to charge both the battery in the camera and a second one plugged into the wall at the same time. Your NEX-5 battery and charger will work with this camera. I had the same camera before the a6000, but sold the whole set for the upgrade. The 18-200 lens will work as well, same as any other emount lens.On a side note. I absolutely love this camera. Since you are also upgrading from the NEX-5, i'm certain you will too.

Q: 3. Is this hardcover or paperback?

A: The Amphoto Book: Gregory Heisler: 50 Portraits: Stories and Techniques from a Photographer's Photographer (BH #AMGH50P) is a hardcover book.

Q: 4. What is range of shutter release lag times?

A: Less than half a second. To be precise you have to read the manual if it is mentioned or ask a professional. For me it is FAST. I love that little camera

Q: 5. Which version of LW is this for?

A: This would be good for version 11 and higher.

Q: 6. Is the a6000 a US model with a US warranty?

A: Yes, this is a Sony USA camera with a one year manufacturer's warranty.

Q: 7. Is there a ring light or flash that works with this camera? Using the 30mm f3.8 macro lense

A: While I am not familiar with a 30mm f/3.8 lens (and you do not list the full brand/model name of the lens in question), the answer would depend on the filter thread size of your lens. If you are looking for a ring flash that uses Sony's TTL automatic flash exposure system, the only option we carry that would work would be the Metz Mecablitz 15 MS-1 Macro Ringlight Digital Flash Kit, B&H # ME15MS1, as long as your lens has a filter thread size of either 52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, 67mm, or 72mm. However, as the Sony a6000's built-in flash cannot be used as a wireless commander, you would need another flash on the hot shoe of the camera to wirelessly trigger the Metz Mecablitz 15 MS-1 Macro Ringlight, such as the Sony HVL-F20M External Flash, B&H # SOHVLF20M. If you do not need TTL automatic exposure, then an option such as the Bolt VM-160 LED Macro Ring Light, B&H # BOVM160. This option would be both a continuous LED ring light that can be used for both still photography and video photography usage needs (and as it is a continuous light, it can also be used with automatic exposure), and it also has a manual flash feature. When using the flash feature, set the flash output manually.

Q: 8. Does Sony provide any RAW software with camera?

A: yes, I choose this camera model. And it also have a lot of function and useful for my favorite like EVF because you don't need move your eye from View Finder. It's show any details you want. Customize flash, shooting via you phone, blazing shot 11 frame/sec, Limited ISO you can choose like between 100-1600 so you don't worry for picture will under or over brightness.

Q: 9. Does Sony e-mount accept Nikon lenses?

A: To use Nikon F-mount lenses on Sony E mount cameras, you will need to use an adapter. Have a look at the Metabones Nikon F Mount Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter II, B&H # MENFEBM2.Please be aware you will not retain electronic lens functions when using this adapter.

Q: 10. How does this book compare to The Fujifilm X-T2: 120 X-Pert Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Camera" ?

A: The books are similar but this one is more specific to the controls, features, and settings found on the XT2 which are not available on all X series cameras.

[August, 2015] I am just starting to get into photography as a passive hobby as it is something that I really enjoy during travels with my wife. I wanted a workhorse camera that was still small enough that packing would be easy. After a few weeks of use, this camera really fits the bill. So many great features and fantastic picture quality. I would reccomend buying an extra battery as you will not get a full day of shooting out of just the one in which it includes. I am loving this camera so far, and cant wait to use it on my trip to Italy in September.

[Peter Hurley] I was originally a Nikon user, but i've been out of the photography loop for MANY years and resorted to using the Panasonic DMZ series while raising my kids. It was small, easy to use and the photos were decent. But of course, they weren't great and that dang lens kept going into error mode. Well the kids are gone and I wanted to get something nice for under $1000, but everything was so big and bulky. That's when I saw the Sony. I watched an independent video review on it and said that's what I want. I just took it to Hawaii for a week, shot about 700 pictures and I am ecstatic with the quality! The camera was super easy to get a quick grasp on how to use it. It obviously has many more features for me to get used to and use, but right off the bat I was doing all the things I did previously and the end result is WAY better! As the cobwebs of using all the manual features slowly clear away I am looking forward to getting experimental and not just use all the presets.(and there are a ton of great ones!) I am excited to shoot pictures again!

[1.45 lb] What a great idea. No need to carry around additional guides when you have all your basic information (which covers a lot) in a pocket guide.

[Peter Hurley] Since I don't use video I chose the a6000 over the a6300. I bought it not sure that I would like it over the Sony rx100, but I do. So now I leave the a7rm2 when I travel or shoot simply to have fun. The optics are amazing even for a pixel peeper like me.
