Building on the success of the original Ultravid HD, Leica Ultravid HD-Plus 10x42 Binocularsadd improved technologies and materials to create an optical device with bright and clear images across the entire field of view. The HD-Plus binoculars deliver enhanced contrast and true color fidelity, with virtually zero distortion, even in low-light conditions. Helping compensate for the visually distracting hand shake common with using 10x and greater optics, is a wide 63° apparent viewing angle. This allows the use of high-magnification binoculars without the need for stabilization equipment like harnesses or tripods.

Leica upgraded the glass to specially formulated SCHOTT HT glass, which increases light transmission especially in the blue-violet light band, improves color fidelity, and enhances low-light performance. Scratch- and abrasion-resistant High Durable Coating (HDC) and hydrophobic AquaDura coating on the outer lenses protect surfaces and cause water and oil to bead off for easier cleaning and clearer vision. The roof prisms feature P40 phase correction and proprietary High Lux System (HLS) coatings. These coatings virtually eliminate chromatic aberration for enhanced color rendition and increased contrast.

Complementing the optical performance are uncompromising construction details. To reduce user fatigue during long glassing sessions, the chassis is made of a lightweight yet durable magnesium alloy, with a titanium center hinge axle. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled for fogproof performance and sealed to make the binoculars submersible to 16.4' or 0.5 bar of pressure. Ergonomic thumb indents on the bottom of the binoculars, coupled with protective rubber armoring, provide a comfortable slip-resistant grip. A lubrication-free focus system provides fast and precise focusing, with PETP-Discs to provide smooth movement throughout the broad operating temperature range.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. where is this binocular manufactured?

A: This model is made in Germany.

Q: 2. are those made in Germany?

A: No they are made in Portugal. I have a pair of Trinovid 8 X 32 I bought about 20 yrs ago that were made in Germany; these (10X40) are just as good. Both terrific. I like the larger image. The slightly heavier weight also help me steady my tremor. Good glasses!

Q: 3. I am looking for a high end -high quality Bino. I am down to this model Leica 10 x 42 and the Swarovski 10 X 42 swaroVision. Can anyone help with comparison info, especially if you have used these glasses? I will use these mostly for wildlife viewing and helping me find good images for wildlife photography. Thanks for your analysis. J.L.

A: Personally I would go with the Swarovski EL 10x42 SwaroVision Binoculars. I have compared both models side by side in a low light setting, and the Swaro's are superior. There is a slight brightness difference. Also there is more glass in both barrels of the Swarovski's. Build quality wise it's a better binocular too.

Q: 4. Would you explain the difference between the Leica 8X42 ultravid and the 8X42 noctivid? Are either armored?

A: The Ultravid HD-Plus is indeed based on an older mechanical and optical design that has been around for a long time. Its a true and tested performer. The Noctivid is Leica's newest optical and mechanical designs which many individuals at Leica Camera, Inc, worked on for over 6 years before introducing. It shows numerous easily noticeable improvements in performance over not only our existing Ultravid designs, but arguably has been referred to as the new performance benchmark for all. The Ultravid line is complete with 8 different models of full sized binoculars in 32 mm, 42 mm, and 50 mm objective lens models, while the Noctivid is only available in 8x42 and 10x42 models. Comparing apples to apples between the Leica 8x42 Ultravid HD-Plus, and the Leica 8x42 Noctivid binoculars, one immediately appreciates the Noctivids closer focus (almost 5 feet closer than the Ultravid product, down to near 6 feet) as well as the Noctivid's very obvious wider field-of-view (443 feet versus 389 feet at 1,000 yards). Especially when comparing in challenging lighting, the Noctivids superior light delivery is easily demonstrable and since delivered at very high transmission across the entire visible spectrum, the Noctivids high dynamic range lends itself to a seemingly unparalleled depth of focus front to back that offers amazing eye comfort. This feature also lends itself to a very quick focus system. With so much of the field from 50 feet to infinity in focus or near focus so at once, most users find they barely have to refocus and adjustments being made are mere degrees on the focus wheel. This means you are spending more time appreciating your subject in focus and less time trying to get the subject in focus.

Q: 5. what is the difference between ultravid hd and trinovid ?

A: The Ultravids are slightly better quality. The build construction is better too. The Ultravids are also made in Germany, and the Trinovid's are made in Portugal.

Q: 6. Were are these MFG?

A: My Leica 10x42 Ultravid HD's are made in Germany. Says so on the unit. Some Leica optics are made in Portugal. Not all.

Q: 7. What happened to the Adventure Strap mentioned in the user manual we received with the binoculars (it says it should come attached)? I do see it's not listed in the "In the box" list on the website, and there's a cloth pouch instead. Just thinking this matter neads clarification for future buyers.

A: the strap is in the box: if you didn't receive it, please call customer service. In the Box: Leica 10x42 Trinovid HD Binocular Neoprene Carrying Strap One-Piece Ocular Rainguard 2 x Objective Lens Caps Brown Zippered Cloth Pouch Limited Lifetime Warranty

Q: 8. What is the warranty for a USA purchaser?

A: These binoculars carry a 3-Year Leica No-Fault Passport Warranty and Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Q: 9. Why did you choose this model over the LEICA Ultravid HD 10x32?

A: I am not quite sure what you mean. However I do know most people choose the 42mm Size because it is brighter, and better in low light. The 32mm are lighter weight, however not as bright.

Q: 10. DoeS LEICA offer BINOCULAR WINGED EYECUPS FOR THIS LINE?

A: Leica does not offer winged eyecups for the Ultravid binoculars.

[10x] I had been carrying a 8x50 Steiner Merlin which served me very well. Love the glass and its ergonomics. However, they were too big. Additionally, I needed binoculars which could handle extreme humidity, sudden monsoon type rains, river crossings and not fog up. I also needed a lighter smaller form factor to carry on foot and in my Maxpedition Falcon-III backpack. I was also unwilling to compromise on the glass after making substantial investment to get on location. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Ultravid 8x42 HD Plus highly compact, yet rugged, and crisp glass under diminishing light. Thrilled to get them into the field.

[3.01 lb] I was moving up from a Nikon Superior E and wanted compactness, brightness and sharpness.
Returned my Zeiss Victory SF T* as they did not seem worth the extra cost and the case and lens caps were not easy to work around.
The Leica image seems as bright and sharp. The body is shorter, less weight and easy to hold. The body seems better built too (the Zeiss had exposed seems in the rubber on the body which might separate with use). The Leica has tethered front lens caps and the case is easier to access with one buckle (the Zeiss case required two zippers and a magnetic strap to be undone before grabbing the glass.
Just returned froma week on the Maine coast and LOVE these binoculars.

[Roof] The first time I went birding with my new Leica Ultravid HD + 8x42 binoculars was a revelation. They have incredible sharpness, rich colors, sharpness of contrast, and the brightness were game changing. Awesome binoculars. The ordering process was easy and the expedited shipping were a plus.

[10x] This is my first pair of 12x binoculars, and my first Leicas, and I'm really pleased with them. The ergonomics are great compared to other 12x bins I tried; the only niggles I have are with a little bit of stiction in the focus wheel at some points, and the overly sticky ocular rain covers (hard to put on and remove quickly). But the view is amazing and immersive! And I find the Leicas to be so well balanced that holding 12x steady doesn't feel any more difficult than the 10x Zeiss Victory FLs I'm accustomed to. I find that I just want to keep looking at things through them because the view is so spectacular. These bins have definitely recharged my enthusiasm for birding.

[42 mm] Just upgraded from my previous birding binoculars. These are awesome. Had some low profile ones but now I had the chance to buy this pair and I love them. They are light and compact, with awesome close focus to watch birds at close range. Ready for more birding adventures during and after covid2019!!!
