Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I travel overseas (Africa) with the buckwheat hulls?

A: I would recommend contacting the TSA. https://www.tsa.gov/

Q: 2. What does the 4.2 stand for? Besides size (dimensions), is there much difference between this Kinesis Safarisack and the 1.4 Safarisack?

A: The 4.2 is the volume of filler (in liters) for the large bag. The 1.4 bag has a volume of 1.4 liters. So, the 4.2 is about 2 1/2 times bigger than a 1.4. I have both and the 1.4 is a bit small for long lenses or folding in half over a car window or fence rail.tree branch but very handy for a flexible support with smaller lenses. Hope this answered your question. Nice, well made product by the way and if you are taking it traveling say on a safari consider using buckwheat hulls for filler instead of poly - much lighter for packing,.

Q: 3. How well will this work on my door window lower half way? I shoot birds and wildlife from my vehicle with a 400mm.

A: I bought this for a safari in Africa and did not like it. It wouldn't stay in place over the window and was always slipping. All the other people on the safari had something like the Naturescapes SkimmerSack or Lenscoat LensSak and seemed quite happy with them. I will order one of those next time.

Q: 4. How many of these items will I need to fill a lenscoat lenssack?

A: 1-1..5 bags should do.

Q: 5. I want to use this for another bag. in terms of weight, how much do you get in this bag ?What is the weight of the hulls

A: The Weight would be approximately 18 oz (510.3 g)

Q: 6. Should I remove the hulls from the plastic bag they come in?

A: In theory, allowing them out of their original plastic packaging would likely allow the buckwheat hulls to shift freely in Kinesis Safarisack 4.2 to conform to some surfaces better, but in practice, we have found that there are sometimes advantages to keeping them in their packaging.

Q: 7. Can Poly Bead fill or Git-Lite fill be ordered separately for this bag?

A: Yes, poly beads can be ordered separately for the Kinesis SafariSack Beanbag Camera Support (Buckwheat Hulls Filled, Black, 4.2L): https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1081615-REG/kinesis_r142_poly_bead_fill_for.html

Q: 8. How much does this weigh when filled with git-lite?

A: Kinesis lists the SafariSack 4.2 as weighing 2 lbs 10 oz when filled with git-lite.

Q: 9. Can you attach two together to make it larger?

A: Yes, two can be attached to each other to make it bigger.

Q: 10. Thinking about using this on top of a foam apple box to stabilize a shoulder rig camera for long shots on a reality tv shoot as well as use it as a pad for sitting on the apple box, is this comfortable to sit on when filled with polybeads?

A: While comfort is subjective and may differ from person to person, the LensCoat LensSack Beanbag Camera Support (Black) would be compatible for your stated usage needs and should be relatively comfortable.

[Nylon] This is a great, well made bean bag. I bought the buckwheat hulls for filling. It is stable and light. Works just fine with my telephoto.

[Black] The Safarisack 4.2 Beanbag Camera Support (khaki) is one of the cheaper padded supports for photographing with long lenses that needs stabilization to precisely place the focus point on the eye of a distant bird or mammal. The sac is wide enough for the larger lenses and long enough to stratal the car door and stay in place. For smaller cars and trucks that don't have higher opening windows as the large pickups do, I have found this bag to my best choice. Larger beanbags work on the larger pickup windows or in larger stationary blinds. The sack's design and build quality are very good Sunflower seeds make an excellent choice to fill the sac; they are lighter and cheaper than other choices.

[Black] I recently returned from a safari in South Africa, where our wildlife photography opportunities were from inside a car. The Safarisack 1.4 Beanbag was a quick and easy way to achieve good camera stability (using a heavy Pentax K-1 and 150-450 zoom combination). I filled it with dried split peas, which were easily obtainable and worked great, and I found the size of the 1.4 model bag just right. The rubberized surface minimizes slipping on the window edge or other surface, which was always an issue with previous home made beanbags I have used, and the carry handle makes handling very easy. I also enjoyed being able to empty the bag after the trip, getting rid of weight and bulk for air travel back home. Highly recommended.
