Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will removal of the top clamp allow for the use of the standard 3/8" screw and thus ballhead (directly on the rotator vs through the clamp)?

A: Yes this is possible. Though it has a 1/4 20 screw and you would need a 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing like the one linked here to do this. https://bhpho.to/2PojBNL. Alternatively if you have no need for the clamp, the base can be purchased individually at the link here. https://bhpho.to/3d5eGcI. Ideally one should pan from the top of the Ballhead as opposed to from the base. The top of the head would need to be perfectly vertical to get a level pan from the base. When panning from the top this is not an issue.

Q: 2. Can this be used to replace the rotator on a Nodal Ninja 3?

A: Looking over the Nodal Ninja rotator models, we would have to say no. The Nodal Ninja's have screw holes whereas the Sunwayfoto has a screw on top and Arca Swiss below. In order that we may further assist you, please write telling us what you wish to do. sales@bhphoto.com.

Q: 3. Will this fit the mefoto walk about monopod?

A: Really Right Stuff Monopod Head with Indexing Lever-Release Clamp BH #REMH02LR will not directly fit the MeFOTO WalkAbout Aluminum Monopod so you will need a 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing.

Q: 4. But can the 1/4 - 20 lug on top be taken out and then a 1/4 -20 screw be screwed into it from the top? I guess what I'm asking is if the hole on top is threaded.

A: The Rotator has a standard 1/4 male thread and it is not designed to take that out and be used direct with a male thread. It is 3/8ths female thread any way.

Q: 5. Will the Arca-Swiss plate fit on the Peak Design Travel Tripod?

A: As the Sunwayfoto DDP-64SiX Indexing Rotator for Panoramas includes an Arca-type dovetail plate that may be added onto the base of the unit, yes, it would be compatible for use on the Peak Design Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod or the Peak Design Aluminum Travel Tripod.

Q: 6. What size screws fit the threaded holes in the TOP? I'd like to be able to mount something extra to it with two screws. They should be the same size as the ones that are used to mount the arca swiss plate to the bottom.

A: The top holes are 1/4-20" and the bottom holes are both 1/4-20" and 3/8".

Q: 7. How can I change on the DDP-64M the top male 1/4-20 to a male 3/8 for use my female 3/8 ball head attachment?

A: The Sunwayfoto DDP-64M Indexing Rotator has a 3/8"-16 thread size. The 1/4"-20 is the adapter. It will fit onto a 3/8"-16 female.

Q: 8. What is the difference is between the indexing version and the standard version? I see the standard one has the spirit level which the indexing one doesn't so trying to work out why it's $90 more?

A: The difference between RRS MH-01 and Indexing MH-02 monopod heads is best explained in the RRS video in youtube, type the following in the search bar:really right stuff monopod head with standard lever-release clampI purchased the MH-02 head as I did not wish to carry a separate tool and the orientation change was fast and elegant. The omission of the spirit level in MH-02 was not an issue with me as it would be really difficult to level the camera & lens on a monopod.

Q: 9. re: The indexed quick release clamp is oriented for horizontal left to right camera tilting but you can change the orientation to vertical fore and aft lens tilting by turning the clamp 90 degrees using the supplied hex key. I believe this copy applies to a less expensive RRS monopod head. It appears that the top platform / clamp of this monopod head can be quickly reoriented without tools using a thumb screw. Can B&H confirm?

A: There are three versions of the RRS monopod head: 1) Standard Screw Knob Clamp; 2) Standard Lever-Release Clamp; and, 3) Indexing Lever-Release Clamp. The two standard versions require a hex key to reorient the clamp whereas the indexing version and be reoriented without tools.

Q: 10. How does the head mount to this there is no screw shown?

A: This rotator will adapt to other ball heads but is specially designed for the Nodal Ninja Ultimate M2 Panoramic Head https://bhpho.to/3Cfxodv you can also use a Impact 3/8" to 3/8" Adapter Spigot https://bhpho.to/3ilQh6r

[0.655 lb] Used in a Museum and runs 10 hours a day. 5+ years before replacement was needed.

[0.655 lb] This Sunwayfoto DDP-64SI & DDY-64I Indexing Rotator is really for a Robus Monopod, but B&H is out of stock of the Robus monopod, so I
tested it on my Robus tripod. I tested all the four possible detent variations and I could clearly hear the clicks, works as designed, a little heavy but should work for me for a long time.

[0.655 lb] I was skeptical based upon some of the reviews, but now that I have the rotator, I can tell you that it is fantastic. Placed between my leveling head and my ballhead. The clicks are loud enough to hear and I can easily feel them as I rotate the product. That will be important doing panos at night, e.g. Milky Way shots. The levers control the friction, but once quickly adjusted, they seem to retain their tightness. The starting at 0 degrees comment isn't a issue either. The top plate rotates independent of the body, and is controlled by the upper lever shown in the product picture. Just rotate the body to the next click (doesn't have to be at 0), then rotate the top plate to the desired starting position of your pano and start taking pictures. You can also do this if your ballhead has a rotating base, as does mine. The thickness of 1.8 inches does add some height to the tripod system, but in my case, my tripod is a bit short, since I use it for compactness during travel. So, I don't have to bend over as much. Of course, I need to test it over time, but IMO, it is a well-built product that works as described at an excellent price.

[0.655 lb] I was a little worried about buying this, because some of the reviews were quite bad (mainly about not feeling the click as it turns). I do not have that issue at all, just have to make sure that the knob used to select the degree of rotation is tightened just right.

[1" / 25.8 mm] There are several indexinf rotators for those of us who want to shoot better panos. The Sunway is an affordable option. You have to practie and determine the angle you need for your different lenses.. The click sound is audible and yu can feel it easily. Suggest also getting the Sunway Leveling plate to complement the rotator

[6.7 oz / 190 g] IN the past, I used a ball head to do panoramas. At night when time is tight between shots, it took me a while to pan 2 row and sometimes 3 row panoramas when the galaxy was high in the sky. The DDP-64M cuts the time by 1/3. No more lining up degree markers on each shot. Just turn, feel the click, and shoot. This device fits perfect on my tripod, and has enough degree markers for ultra wide to normal lens panoramas. I like they used levers vs knobs because the lock down on my tilt head, nodal rail, and L bracket uses knobs. With these levers, it's easy to grab the right lever and not get confused with various locking knobs. Also, the machining and operation of the 64M is smooth, and easy to set up. It also locks down good on a tripod, and has pull levers to keep them in a desired position. A great product for night or day panorama. A real time saver with precision. The only missing piece is a spirit or bullseye level. For that, the Sunwayfoto LP76 level plate is a good solution.

[6.7 oz / 190 g] All of Fanotec's stuff is top notch. I do wish it had some bigger stops too like the RD-16 since I don't always do stitches with super long lenses. The RD-16 works for everything up to 200mm lens in vertical orientation. Got this for my 100-400 lens and it really is most convenient for that lens only. With shorter lenses you'd have to keep track of rotating multiple times to get a bigger increment, like 10 or 12 degrees. Not the end of the world but it's one more thing to keep track of.

[2.5" / 64 mm] This is about as simple and easy as panoramic rotators get. There is another review here where the guy couldn't figure out which was it lines up, not sure what he's doing. This lens only goes in one way and it stays in the perfect position. If for some reason your camera is turned a little to one side or the other the software you are using will fix this issue with zero problems. This is the simplest way to do panoramas. 3 shots and done. Just be careful not to over-tighten the screws when you put it together.

[2.5" / 64 mm] I have been looking for ways to make moving tree break-up for years and love this solution. Put two leafy break-up gobos in this thing, set your speed, and watch in awe as the light looks exactly like sun streaming through breezy trees.
