As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.

All-in-one zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-mount cameras, and provides a 28.8-480mm equivalent focal length range.

One Special Low Dispersion (SLD) and Four F Low Dispersion (FLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.

Three aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Ideal for close-up shooting, this lens offers a 1:3 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 1.3' to suit working with nearby subjects.

Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with a rear focus system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

Optical Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to benefit making sharper imagery when shooting handheld.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

Zoom lock switch helps to prevent accidental and unwanted zoom adjustment.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it work with a Nikon Z6?

A: This is a Nikon F-Mount lens and will not fit on the Nikon Z6 without an adapter. With the Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter this will work on the Z6 but in crop mode. While this will work it is not recommended. This is not a full frame lens and will not cover the Full Frame Sensor of the Z6. With this lens on the FTZ adapter one cannot take advantage of the Full Frame Sesnor of the Z6.

Q: 2. Will this work with my Canon 5D Mark 3?

A: That lens is designed for the crop sensor cameras (called APS-C), not for full frame cameras like the 5D Mark 3.

Q: 3. Is the lens made in Japan?

A: Our system indicates the Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Canon EF is manufactured in Japan.

Q: 4. Does it work with Nikon D60?

A: Yes; as the Sigma 8-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Nikon F uses Sigma's HSM Hypersonic Motor, the lens would be fully compatible for use on the Nikon D60 DSLR camera.

Q: 5. 72mm lens hood

A: The Lens hood is a bayonet twist on style from Sigma, filters are sized at 72mm.

Q: 6. is the Sigma USB dock included with the purchase of this lens?

A: No. It is compatible with the dock but the dock must be purchased separately.

Q: 7. Will this lens work fine with Canon EOS Kiss X7i ?

A: I don't know if it works fine with EOS Kiss x7i. But, I'sure it works fine Canon EOS 60D.

Q: 8. Is this lens good for taking action/sports shots?

A: Yes. It is kind of clunky and the movement of the lens seems to be less then smooth. It takes some getting used to for zooming in and out. Too slow for inside pics like a basketball pic.

Q: 9. Looking for a Walk through the woods and walking trail lens for my Canon 7D. Thinking Sigma or Tamron- the 16 or 18-300 lens. Which would you recommend?

A: I purchased the Sigma a short time ago and have not had a chance to use it extensivley. It replaces Canon 18-135mm and Canon 100-300mm lens. In performing a few comparison tests the Sigma exceeded my expectations and I found no apparent quality of image problems. The most impressive discovery was the quality of the image stabilization system. Much better than the Canons. It produced very sharp images handheld at 1/10 sec through the entire zoom range.

Q: 10. Would this be a good option for a Canon t6i? I got my partner the camera but she always complains about carrying a 18-55 and 75-300 lense, so I feel this would be a 2 in 1?

A: Yes. My photography friend has the T7I and she has this lens and loves it with the camera. Its a great all-in-one lens so youre not constantly switching out lenses.

[f/22] This lens is great, it the best all in one lens I can get close and far away. Great for animals shots, ok for sports but would recommend faster lens. It is sharp fast enough for new to intermediate users.

[1:3] I did quite a bit of research into this lens. I wanted a lens with a long focal range and image stabilization. I decided on the Sigma over the Tamron mostly because I've had issues with Tamron lenses in the past and vowed never to buy another one.

I am extremely happy with my choice and very impressed with this lens.

[1:3] I have been using a Canon 18 - 200 lens as my one general purpose lens for about 5 years now. I upgraded to the Sigma 18-300 for additional zoom plus the better macro. (I also purchased the Macro filter/lens to add to the front of this lens for more closeups.) So far, this is a great lens. I have only done a couple of sessions but I love the feel of the lens. Quality construction. It is about the same size and weight as the Canon 18-200 so not much of a change switching over. And one thing I really love, the lens lock is on top not under the lens like the Canon lens. This is mush easier to lock and unlock as I walk around.

[0.33x] Overall the focal length range provides fantastic opportunities for all kinds of photographers. I would say this is more a hobbyist's or enthusiast's lens as the although the image quality is sharp, and the autofocus/stabilization is solid, it certainly isn't as great as the top of the line lenses. Nevertheless, it is a fantastic lens and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a budget zoom lens.

[1:3] Has came in clutch for me and works great with my Canon. Sharper images and not having to swap from one lens to the other has been a game changer.B&H helped tremendously with getting it to me fast and no problems at all!

[Yes] for groups, head and shoulder portraits and events. Multiple uses and easy to use. Glad I talked to a B&H associate with knowledge of lenses and what I described was my reason to purchase.

[1.7 lb] I have been using this lens for about 2 years now. I have used it for just about every possible outdoor nature application there is. It shots macro as good as landscape and it has a relatively fast focus. I would purchase the docking station along with this lens. There is a tutorial video explaining how to use it on the B & H sight and I suggest watching that if you're not sure how to use it.
