As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.

Telephoto zoom is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 240-960mm equivalent focal length range.

One F Low Dispersion (FLD) and three Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with a rear focus system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

Optical Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to benefit making sharper imagery when shooting handheld.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Dust- and splash-resistant design suits this lens's use in inclement weather conditions and a water- and oil-repellent coating has also been applied to the front element to aid in cleaning.

Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

Zoom lock switch can be activated at any focal length to prevent accidental and unwanted zoom adjustment.

Compatible with optional Sigma TC-1401 1.4x and TC-2001 2x teleconverters.

A removable, rotating tripod collar offers well-balanced support for photographing atop a tripod or monopod with either vertical or horizontal shooting orientations.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What size LensCoat hoodie lens hood cover fits this lens?

A: Temporary there are no lenscoat for the contemporary lens..the 150-600mm sport lenscoat does not fit the contemporary model.

Q: 2. Is it 4 lbs or 5.90 lbs?

A: Sigmas specifications on that lens is 1930g/ 68oz

Q: 3. I have a Canon 60d. I read this about the Sigma 150-600 contemporary lens... It is compatible with the Sigma USB dock for firmware updates and focus microadjustment Two questions: 1. The 60D doesn't have microadjustment capabilities (I don't think) so do I need a new camera to use this lens?2. How important is the microadjustment... will I def use/need it?

A: Hi Tom,The Sigma USB dock is a separate USB device which, together with Sigma software can let you set custom AF limits, say 100 feet to infinity. You can also use this setting to create custom optical stabilization behavior and custom AF fine tuning points at each focal length settings, 150-250-400-600mm and different distances! Most of these will not be of much use to the average shooter. Basically with usb dock and Sigma software you can enable and control the two custom settings (on the side of the lens, C1 and C2.)I hope that answers both your questions. As a detail, I use Sigma 150-600 with a Cannon 70D and I have no problems.

Q: 4. Will this lens work on a Canon 4Ti / 650D camera?

A: Yes, this lens is fully compatible with the Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D camera and all other EOS DSLR models.

Q: 5. Can this lens be easily hand held at 600mm and still get sharp images especially if tracking wildlife? I don't want to have to schlep a tripod every time I take it on aI hike.

Q: 6. Hi , so this lens is just compatible with full frame cameras ?

A: This lens is compatible with both full frame and APS-C sensor cameras.

Q: 7. Does this setup work with the A7RII for wildlife action shooting such as birds on the wing?

A: Yes, that lens is perfect for photographing birds, however focus may suffer due to the fact it is not a native lens. The Sony 200-600mm would be ideal.

Q: 8. what is the weight?

A: This lens weighs approximately 5.90 pounds.

Q: 9. Does this lens work on a Nikon D500 ?

A: Yes I bought this lens to use with the Nikon D500. I haven't used it very much but it worked fine with the D500 as I was photographing the Blue Angels during Seafair in Seattle. I was able to hand hold it but I can see where a monopod would be nice if you're going to use it for an extend time period.

Q: 10. What is the weight?

A: This lens weighs approximately 5.90 pounds.

[0.2x] I have only used it once but the few photos I have gotten are amazing! I am very satisfied with this lens. It is a bit heavy for hand holding but put it on tripod with a gimbal head or a mono-pod and you're good to go!

I am loving the extra reach at 600mm which I needed very much. I would strongly recommend this lens to anyone needing extra reach and quality images at a great price.

[Yes] Starting bird and animal photography and this lens was a reasonable price point starting place. So far I am very pleased with the results. Tried handholding and that lasted about 30 minutes. Bought a Wimberley WH-200 and problem solved. Back in business. Once I had the gimbal setup correctly subject acquisition was quick and easy. Very happy with the results and really happy that I bought the gimbal!

[1:4.9] I have used the Sigma 150-600 mm Sport Lens on my Canon 90D a few times in the last two weeks and am impressed with the range and detail of the photos. I am at the beginners stage and am looking forward to leaning more on how to get the most out of the this lens! So far so good!

[Yes] I'm thrilled with this lens! It is a bit heavy and bulky (especially when zoomed out), but can be hand-held with fast shutter speeds and good form (for short periods), and I am a female ... I'm rethinking my wish list of Nikon long prime lenses!!

[1:4.9] I tested the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary and the Canon RF 110-500mm against the Sigma 150-600mm Sports and sent photos to some of my friends ... the Sigma 150-600mm Sports came ahead about 80% of the time. I was able to tell the difference so decided that it was the best purchase for the money. I shot a nephew's baseball game and got some good action shots (it was about 10 a.m. so plenty of light - did not use a tripod or monopod) ... I am uploading some bird photos where I used a tripod (at sunset if there is movement you will get some blur) .. I took the sun at sunset just resting on a car door and I took the moon with a tripod and 10 second delay to avoid movement .. I am really pleased with this lens; definitely worth the price .. Hope this is helpful

[150 to 600mm] The picture quality is outstanding. I will be using this for mostly bird/wildlife photography. The lens is a bit on the heavy side so use of a monopod or tripod is a benefit. You can hand hold it but be prepared for a workout! I love that you are able to lock the zoom at the different focal lengths.

[16.4° to 4.1°] If you enjoy outdoor/wildlife photography this is a must have. Admittedly I am a amateur, but this lens makes me feel like a pro. Took some time getting used to it and highly recommend shooting from a tripod. I am loving everything about this purchase.

[Canon EF] I purchased this lens to have a lens with longer reach than my Canon EF 100-400L is capable of. I have not been disappointed. The photos are sharp and the lens is a joy to use. Well built and feels like a more expensive lens than it is. Along with it being well built comes some extra weight, however, the weight is manageable and very easy to hand hold to photograph birds in flight. I highly recommend this lens and B&H gave me a great deal on it as always. I also highly recommend B&H, I have been a loyal customer for a lot of years.

[9, Rounded] I had done a lot of research and had talked to other photographers and two of my go to photo stores (B&H was one). I might not have been comparing apples to apples the Canon100-400 plus extender vs Sigma 150-600mm but from all I heard and saw the price was right. The only thing you really need to consider is the weight of this lens, you will need a tripod/gimbal (or nice ball head).

My pictures are from my first outing with this lens and both have been cropped down as the Eagle was probably 75-100 yards and the Coyote easily 200-250 yards away. The sky as you can tell was cloudy but provided a nice back drop.

[Autofocus] I have now had this lens for around two months. In that time I have photographed birds in flight, burrowing owls and had a chance to photograph the brown bears in Alaska. I had used the Sigma dock to AFFT and also change some settings for the OS etc. The lens has performed flawlessly with no issues. Photos that I have taken with the lens have been sharp and the AF has been responsive. The AF does tend to hunt in low light, but that is to be expected with a superzoom and its limited maximum aperture. The lens is heavy and I bought this knowing that I would only use this on a tripod and gimbal.

Overall the lens is a great buy and I am very thrilled to have bought it. I have attached some sample pics below.
