Featuring a unique 15-layer multi-coated design, the Formatt Hitech 52mm Firecrest SuperSlim Polarizer Filterhelps to reduce reflections and glare as well as increase the overall saturation of an image. This unique polarizer filter is characterized by the advanced Firecrest coating, which offers full attenuation of UV light for increased clarity and contrast, as well as a marked reduction in surface reflections and protection against scratching.

A polarizing filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. This results in a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage, as well as clearer imagery when photographing in hazy conditions. A circular polarizer differs from a linear polarizer in that it supports full use of a camera's autofocus and auto exposure functions.

The SuperSlim aluminum alloy filter ring measures 7.5mm-thick and its slim design helps to minimize the likelihood of vignetting. This filter features front threads for stacking additional filters or attaching a lens cap.

Reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.

Arrange and filter directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light allowing for the absorption of much of the light.

Lessens haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.

Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multi-coating is water- and scratch-resistance for greater overall durability.

Firecrest coating attenuates UV contamination, as well as surface reflections, for increased contrast, clarity, and acuity.

Schott Superwite glass is used in order to maintain clear image quality and high light transmission.

The aluminum alloy SuperSlim filter ring measures 7.5mm-thick and features front threads for stacking additional filters.

Q: 4. is this filter appropriate for film cameras, or more importantly, will it work on a lens attached to a film camera?what's the advantage of the lens being non-coated?

A: Yes that filter is fine for film or digital cameras.Lenses and filters with coatings are in general much better. Lens and filter coatings help limit flair and will than make the image look better and give it a good contrast. So it is a benefit to have lenses coated.

Q: 5. Will this fit on canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens?

A: The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens accepts49mm filters, including this one.

Q: 6. Will this work with a Lee Foundation Holder or a Cokin Z-Pro holder?

Q: 9. What is the light transmission of this?

A: Sigma does not have any published specifications for light transmission of this CPL (which I believe is typical because most CPLs have filter factors in a range) but does advertise a 30% increased transmission over their competitors' CPLs. This filter does have a 0.3-0.5 stop reduction of light, which equates to a theoretical numerical transmission of 81.2% (at 0.3 stops) to 70.7% (at 0.5 stops), the formula being 100% multiplied by half to the power of 0.3 and 0.5.

Q: 10. The specs say 101.6 x 101.6 mm. Will these fit in a 100mm filter holder?

A: Yes, these will fit in a 100mm filter holder.

[52 mm] Excellent, excellent, excellent! I love this filter. The best circular Pola I have owned. The moment I put it on my lens for a test I knew I was a fan of Firecrest. There is minimal color shift as the filter is rotated and minimal light loss...truly a precision tool. I got this Pola to replace one that broke...currently using it on a 16mm-35mm Canon Lens. I am now happy the old one broke because the vignetting that haunted me from my old filter is forever gone!

[Aluminum] Just tried the polarizer out today, taking action shots of kiteboarders on water in bright sun. This did a great job of cutting down the glare.

[Glass] These English made filters are excellent quality, slim for wide angle use, and less expensive than some 'big' names. I have several Firecrest filters and never have a problem with these high quality filters.

[52 mm] Wanting to have a quality circular polarizing lens for my Olympus 25mm/f1.8 lens I took a chance on this filter and have been absolutely delighted in its performance. The filter just oozes quality and is very easy to use with either the EVF or in live view with the LCD screen to get just the right amount of polarization. It's been used in light rain and mist and the coatings on the filter just laugh at the drops that get on them. It's worth every penny I spent! I just wish the company had a 46mm variable ND filter too!
