The 52mm Formatt Hitech 52mm 5-Stop ND Filteris a solid neutral density filter providing a 5-stop reduction in exposure. This 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the Schott Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order maintain truer colors and contrast. The multicoating is also scratch resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. The filter is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring, which features front threads for stacking additional filters or attaching a lens cap.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

ND 1.5 filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.

Providing a 5-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multicoating is water and scratch resistant for greater overall durability.

Schott Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this recommended for digital cameras?

A: The Hoya 72mm Neutral Density (ND) 0.3 Hoya Multi-Coated (HMC) Glass Filter is recommended for both digital and film cameras. Hoya's Pro Digital line of filters are slimmer but still have threading on both sides of the filter. Ultra-thin filter frames help to avoid vignetting on super wide angle lenses while the front threads mean they will also hold a lens cap. HMC filters feature a 3 layer multi-coating while their Pro Digital line's multi-coating is optimized for use with digital sensors.

Q: 2. Is this filter fit with fujinon 35mm lense?

A: There are several Fujinon 35mm lenses listed here on B&H and none of them seem to have a 43mm filter size. However, it could simply be that your lens isn't for sale here. Without more information on the lens this question cannot be answered. Can you provide more information about exactly which model of 35mm Fujinon lens you have?

Q: 3. Is it compatible with tokina 11-16mm lens for nikon?

A: 77mm filter on a 77mm filter thread = yes.

Q: 4. Is this filter stackable? And what does the 106M mean in the name?

A: Yes I have stacked them with no visible lose to optical quality.

Q: 5. is this ND filter ideal for video use? I plan on using it with a Sony FDR-AX33 4K camera.

A: Actually the newest ND filter by Hoya (the SOLAS filter series) would be more suited for video work:https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1285182-REG/hoya_xsl_46irnd09_46mm_solas_0_9_irnd.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1285182-REG/hoya_xsl_46irnd09_46mm_solas_0_9_irnd.html/a

Q: 6. Is this filter too dark to focus / compose with the filter already mounted?

A: It depends of course on the amount of ambient lighting in your shot. My work flow is to focus first, shoot to check focus, exposure, and composition. You really need to see the image properly expose before adding the filter. Then I shoot a few images with various shutter speeds with the filter on. Eventually you will become intuitive about your exposure times.

Q: 7. Does this filter case any noticable vignette?

A: No.

Q: 8. Is the MRC worth the additional investment? I do have the 10 Stop MRC and 1 single coated 3 stop both are great.

A: There is an improvement. How much is hard to say. Whether or not is worth it, is a subjective question. We do not know your budget, how often you may use it, etc. If you are happy with current results, then perhaps not.

Q: 9. Do I need a filter holder for an Hoya nd filter?

A: No, this filter screws on to the lens.

Q: 10. Hi there! Does this filter have front threads? Thanks!

A: The Hoya 82mm ND (NDX8) 0.9 Filter (3-Stop) does have 82mm front filter threads.

[52 mm] I use this for cutting light for long exposures. Primarily I use it for photographing lightning where a long exposure is required even in light conditions. This one has a filter factor of 8 stops, it works great. A neutral density is a staple in my gear bag.

[52 mm] Formatt always makes great products, I'm very happy with the results! If you take care of them, they rival glass in quality.
