Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you shoot TTL mode with an Elinchrom Pro HD 500?

A: No You can't. The profoto b1 does

Q: 2. Do I have to change the modeling light in order to use his unit in 220v ? Thanks folks

A: Yes; either change it or remove it.Multi-voltage auto-detection: 90-265VAC excluding modeling lamp

Q: 3. Does this 1000 have high speed sync capability?

A: Elinchrom states that the Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 1000 is not optimized for Hi-Sync usage. High shutter speeds might produce unexpected results, depending on the flash unit, power levels, camera model, and sensor size.

Q: 4. Is this strobe capable of being used on location with the relatively standardized portable DC battery packs; is there a front adapter mounted sling securing ring which slings the battery for the aforementioned DC battery pack?

A: You would need a battery designed for flash, like this one https://bhpho.to/2ZyREmL. The battery would need to be attached to the stand or placed on the ground. The light does not have a mount for it.

Q: 5. Does this kit come with a basic Skyport transmitter?

A: No, the Elinchrom ELC 500 Dual Studio Monolight Kit does not come with any radio trigger. That needs to be purchased separate.

Q: 6. Where the Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 500 made in?

A: The light is made in Switzerland.

Q: 7. How to keep the Modeling Light on continuously for the Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 500?

A: To turn on the modeling lamp, you would press the button that looks like an image of the sun on the right-hand side of the back of the light fixture. By pressing the button, you can scroll through the options OFF, FREE, which would allow you to to set the modeling lamp output to whichever setting you prefer, and PROP, which would set the output of the modeling lamp proportional to the output of the flash tube. The modeling lamp is designed to shut off momentarily when you trigger the strobe. However, it can be set to also dim temporarily when the flash is triggered, then return to full output power if you have VFC (Visual Flash Confirmation) set on the monolight. Also note that the modeling lamp is designed to switch off automatically at high internal temperatures due to the modeling light's overheat protection function. After cooling off, the halogen modeling lamp will switch back on automatically. Do note that this is a strobe unit, not a continuous light fixture

Q: 8. If i buy ELC Pro HD 500/100 from the USA , can I use it in Europe?

A: As the Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 1000 Flash Head's operating voltage is listed as 90 - 265 VAC, 50/60 Hz, yes, it may be used in European countries. However, if the country you are visiting uses 220-240V voltage, you would need to purchase either the Sylvania / Osram Lamp (300W/230V), B&H # SY300W230V, or the Kaiser Halogen Lamp 300W 230V 3200K, B&H # KAHALGLAMP, for use as the modeling lamp, as the included modeling lamp is designed for use on 100-120V current and would not be compatible for use in Europe. Also, do note that you would have to use a plug adapter to convert the USA plug to the plug type used in the country in which you will be using the strobe unit.

Q: 9. Can you hard wire to these lights? with a PC Sync?

A: These lights do have a 3.5mm sync port.

Q: 10. I hear a lot about how previous Elinchrom users complain that the Elinchrom mount is not very sturdy and can wear out easily. Can someone clarify and share their experience with this issue? Has the mount on your strobe (and any light modifiers) worn out yet, or do they function fine?

A: Hi,The Elinchrom mount is very sturdy and robust! The issue some users encounter is mounting it on a C-Stand type spigot. Different manufacturers of C-Stands, booms and other types of spigots have different depths between the top of the mount and the part where it recesses and then the bottom of the mount. The Elinchrom receiver is designed to ANSI standards for a 5/8 /16mm spigot. Usually this is a threaded top style type spigot. There is an adapter coming from KUPO which will address this and allow users who use C-Stands or spigots with the different depth.KG013212 will be available in stores by the end of April.I hope this helps.Regards,Will HBrand Manager Lighting, Mac Group US

[Yes] I've been using these for the past few years and they never let me down, a couple of my units probably have 100,000 pops on them and still going strong. I recommend this unit over the bigger 1000 unit for 99% of the photogs out there. Less price, weight, and I've found it actually recycles a bit faster.

[0.35 lb] I have a lot of the various Elinchrom moonlights. This unit is very solid, feels like a brick, and it does finally fix the annoying problem with the mount being wobbly, as referenced by the first reviewer. I added this item to the other heads to eliminate the loose connection on stand: BH #KUKG013212  MFR #KG013212. My one disappointment is the modeling light, wish they had kept the setup from the ELCPro line. This unit's modeling light is dimmer and has a blue/green cast, really ugly. Puzzling why they changed a perfectly fine setup. Otherwise this version of the Elinchrom moonlights is solid, and a great value considering its TTL and HSS capabilities, which I haven't used yet.

[8 x 5.4 x 3.4"] The best lights I’ve ever bought next to my ELB 500. I am loyal Elinchrom customer due reliability and color accuracy

[8 x 5.4 x 3.4"] I have been using a pair of these lights purchased used as a kit from B&H on site for around 5 years. I have the refresh set to slow since I am not rapid firing, so the color temperature is super consistent. Menu system makes changing settings super easy. Also found a set of convertible umbrellas with a 7mm shaft that fit perfectly into the hole below the bulb, don't mess with the other umbrella holder below. I have not been able go get more than 1/125 sec sync on Canon with the specific Elinchrom transmitter, but also the same as my other set of RX-4s and other brands as well, so it's more of a Canon limitation.

I have put these lights on maybe a dozen types of light stands and they all fit perfectly fine and snug, so I don't get what the one-star reviews claiming incompatibility with stands are about.

They are pretty bulky in shape, but you can't get more WS per pound of weight anywhere else in a monolight, and consistent color and output make these the perfect on-site light if you have a bag big enough to fit them!

[0.35 lb] I've had a set of ELB500's for some time, but my main studio strobes were a different brand so I decided to go all Elinchrom. These lights are built like tanks, are powerful, and provide a consistent, high quality output. And the recycle time is unbelievably fast. I also purchased the Skyport Bridge, and run the Elinchrom studio software on my computer (and I shoot tethered) so now I can control/modify the power for the lights all from my computer (or phone) easily. And they have plenty of power. Highly recommended!

[8 x 5.4 x 3.4"] I have 4 of these Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 500 Flash Heads and they are great for everything from portraits to movement. They are easy to use and work great with the Elinchrom phone app, the Elinchrom Bridge and the Canon app to fire it all off. I love the softness using the Elinchrom light adapters. It is seriously the best soft light with the greatest recycle times that I've used.

[Yes] Love my Quadra! I would be lost without it and that's what happened while setting up for a shoot I noticed one of my bulbs went kaput. I ordered another and I'm back in business!! Easy and quick to change out! B&H always has what I need and are my go to store for all my photography needs.
