[82 mm] I bought this for my GF55mm lens. It's a great portrait lens, but its extreme sharpness can be a downside. To soften the image a bit, I used an HBM 1/4 filter, and it works as expected.

[82 mm] The 1/8 Strength Hollywood Black Magic Filter is the foundation to any good kit.

(1/8th strengths are the building blocks to any filter, with the exception to Radiant Soft Series filters - there you want to start at a "1" and work your way up).

This 1/8th Hollywood Black Mist (HBM) filter is a rockstar. My other filters talk about it when I put it to bed and close the latches on my filter case.

Every cinematographer that owns their own filters should have this filter in their kit.

Don't mess around and chew the eraser of your pencil while thinking about cheaper brands that offer something similar.

Clients and directors know the Schneider brand and you should too.

With that said, get your life together and add this to your collection.

If you really want to go nuts, get the 1/8th & the 1/4 strength filter. I personally have the previously mentioned strengths AND the 1/2.

Between you and me, the 1/8th filter is usually always in my matte box and I don't think I've ever used the 1/2 HBM, but hey, I have the option.

[Glass] A mixture of little lenses and fine black promist in between 2 glass pieces. It does not distort the image or have a strong halitation effect. It produces a very slight glow on highlights and reduces the digital edges, adds a slight softening but not blurry. Contrast is kept in check, not a ton/very very little amount of light spill into the shadows. I use it for video and photo. I also have the True-Net-Beige 2 filter. A very sweet filter for taking down the resolution and adding a slight overall warm feel to the image.

[82 mm] I originally bought this to pair with my BMPCC for personal shoots while renting the 4X4 inch ones for big shoots.

I am really in love with the look of this filter and also use it for some of my photography. The 77mm filter size is just perfect to use with any lens with a proper set of step-up rings. No complaints on the build quality at all!

[0.24 lb] It uses a different construction than my Zeiss Softar's but the effect is comparable.

[82 mm] Schneider is the best filter company on the market. Looks more professional than pro mist and is less expensive. The 1/2 is a sweet spot for the Hollywood Black Magic series.

[82 mm] It is a beautiful filter and it keeps the IQ. Gives you very nice effect on highlights and takes away crazy sharpness of modern digital cameras. Other brands have that kind of filters but they can give the effect too much. Schneider is great if you want cinematic look.
