Utilizing a multi-layer coating process for consistent color rendition from lens to lens the Rokinon 135mm T2.2 Cine Lens for Sony E-Mountanswers the challenge of assembling a set of lenses over time. The lens comes in Sony E-Mount and it features industry standard geared focus and iris rings that share common position with other Rokinon Cine DS lenses. To aid focus pullers who have to work both sides of the lens, the aperture and focus scales are marked on both sides of the lens.

This 135mm lens produces an 18.8° angle-of-view when used with a full-frame sensor camera or a 35mm SLR. Hybrid aspherical lenses render sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations, with a minimum focus distance of 2.6' from the lens. A removable lens hood provides flare protection when shooting without a matte box and the lens's threaded front accepts 77mm filter rings.

Ultra Multi Coated lenses minimize flare and ghosting, and the lenses are color matched to a standard eliminating the need to acquire an entire set of lenses at the same time.

Industry-standard gearing for focus and aperture rings. Each lens in the Rokinon DS series share common focus and iris gear ring positions, which speeds up lens changes as accessories such as follow focus units or iris motors don't have to be re-positioned.

"Declicked" aperture ring for smooth iris pulls.

A removable lens hood provides flare protection without a matte box.

The lens opens up to T2.2, providing the capability for low light shooting or creating extremely shallow depth of field.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there any disadvantage to buying this lens and using for stills? I like the clickless aperture for video and don't mind the non-fixed f stops.

A: The disadvantage is using it in scenarios where you have to change focus very often and needing metadata. I'm using this lens primarily for stills...something like 80/20 photos/videos. I have zero issues with the lens. While an auto lens would have been helpful--and very much more expensive for a fast lens--I pretty much always shoot on a tripod, aperture priority (or manual) using the full range of T/f stops, at ISO 100. I certainly like the smooth cine T stops (whatever they are called). This lens compliments my use of late 70's Mamiya SLR lenses (using an adapter) on my Sony A6000. It does take a bit of time and practice shooting without auto functions (just like the old days with film). My main use is in real estate, architecture, and landscape imagery.I'm very please with this lens and I would recommend it for the budget conscious or patient photo/videographer.

Q: 2. I know this lens is a manual only lens. However, I would like to know if I use it on my Lumix G7 can I still get focus peaking working if I use this lens with it?

A: Yes, you will be able to focus peak with this lens. Focus peaking is a monitoring function that works with all types of lenses.

Q: 3. is it compatible with a T5i? Whats the difference from a Samyang? O are they the same

A: Yes any EF lens will work with the T5i. It is a nice lens because it will give you a lot of separation from the subject and background, making your bokeh look creamy. Samyang, Rokinon and Bower are the same company that merged from Korea. I like the look of this lens, just remember you will need to back up from your subject and there is no autofocus it is all manual. Follow me on Instagram if you have anymore questions @bushfilms

Q: 4. will this work with nikon dslr cameras?

A: Yes, you can use this on Nikon DSLR's or any Nikon F mount camera. Do know it is manual only with no auto focus or electronic control of the aperture. It is optimized for video but works perfectly for stills as well.

Q: 5. Is this lens compatible with Canon 7D?

A: Yes, the lens and the 7D will both EF mounts, so this lens will mount on natively.

Q: 6. Will this work on the BMCC with a MFT mount? The BMCC has a Super 35 sensor but the description says this Covers APS-C Sized Sensors. Will this create any vignetting on the BMCC?

A: I bought the 12mm 2.2 for the BMPCC, which has a sensor essentially the size of Super 16. I may be mistaken, but I thought the BMCC sensor is slightly smaller that Super 15. I'd recommend you check the Cinematography section of the Blackmagic Design forum to be certain.

Q: 7. How bad is the focus breathing on this? I have the 85mm and it's pretty heavy.

A: On this Rokinon 135mm Cine DS model, the breathing is minimized.

Q: 8. Would this work on the Fujifilm X-T2?

A: The Fuji camera has the Fuji X lens mount, this lens is M43 mount, so you would need an adaptor; I don't think one exists. Although this Rokinon says it covers APS-C sensors, it may be impossible to get the M43 lens close enough to the sensor with an adaptor (which may be why adaptors don't seem to exist). So, short answer: no.

Q: 9. What do they mean when they say cine lens the reason I ask this question is that I am a beginer?

A: Cine lenses have definitive T-stops instead of the F stop measurement used in photo lenses. Also gear rings are strategically positioned and consistent for the employment of follow focus systems.

Q: 10. Will this lens fit on a sony a7sIII?

A: Yes it will.

[Full Frame] Bought this thinking I'd have to shoot at 2.8, but it's very sharp wide open. Worth every penny.

[T22] I think this lens punches WAY above it's price. Very fast and bright for it's focal length. Construction is not as solid as Canon or Sigma Cine lenses but still, it's well built for the money. VERY reasonable sharp wide open and razor sharp at f/4 and up. No complaints at all based on it's very low price.

[Sony E] I've used many quality lens in many situations.. and I can safely say this lens stacks up well against anything out there, in fact, I prefer this lens over some that cost 10x as much at times. Super sharp imagery and a look that is true cinema are attributes that make this lens great... not to mention that it's affordable to own - so I went out and bought a set of 6!

[Sony E] i haven't had the chance to try any video work with this lens. however it does a great job for macro work. Not sure if its user error or not but images tend to be a littler softer once on paper than when on the computer.
