The 135mm T1.5 AS UMC VDSLR II Lens for Nikon F Mount from Samyang is a manual focus prime lens. It provides a maximum aperture of T2.2 for effective low light capture and shallow depth of field control and a 9 blade iris for attractive bokeh. Optimized for cinema and video applications, the focus and aperture control rings are outfitted with industry standard gearing, which provides an interface for working with a traditional follow focus. The aperture control ring has also been de-clicked, which enables smooth iris pulls. In addition, bright aperture and distance markings are printed on the lens barrel facing laterally to facilitate easier control by a focus puller. The lens has a minimum focus distance of 2.6'. Internal focusing minimizes the effects of focus breathing, and the lens is composed of 11 elements in 7 groups. A lens multi-coating helps to improve light transmission reducing flare and ghosting. The filter thread diameter for attaching sunshades or filter rings is 77mm.

Each of the VDSLR II lenses will offer the same position of their geared focus and aperture rings so that follow focus and other rig accessories won't need re-adjustment when swapping lenses. Also, each lens is tested to be color matched with the other lenses in the series and provide the same color and contrast when shooting video, allowing you to add lenses to your kit over time without worrying about the color of your image changing significantly when swapping lenses. As an aid to focus pullers, the lenses are marked with focusing scales on each side of the barrel for easier adjustment from both sides of the camera.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens fit my Canon EOS M3?

A: It will fit and work if you get the Canon EF-M Lens Adapter Kit for Canon EF / EF-S Lenses (White Box) B&H # CALAWB.

Q: 2. Same quality as Rokinon DS cine? If these Samyang VDSLR II lenses are identical to the Rokion DC cine lenses, it would be great if there were lens kits and more models, like the Rokinon DS line.

A: The Rokinon line is the highest level of quality of image, finish and features that this lens manufacturer makes. I would imagine in a test, there would be a slight edge with the Rokinons for better contrast and flare control over the Samyangs. And the feature that would be essential on productions with an focus puller is the Dual Side of the Rokinon DS line. However, if you are a single shooter, you could save your money for other stuff.

Q: 3. Could I use this with my sony FS700 without cropping?

A: This lens will produce an image circle that will cover the FS700's sensor without issue.

Q: 4. What is the weather-proofing on this lens? Can this be used in rainy conditions?

A: It is nowhere as well weather proofed as the Canon L lenses for example. It is very well built, but I would avoid getting it wet if possible. At least, I wouldn't be game to get mine wet if I can avoid it.A few drops shouldn't be a problem though.

Q: 5. Is it compatible with canon 5D Mark III?

A: I'm afraid not. This lens is for an MFT mount camera, the 5D Mark III has an EF mount. Also this lens is for cameras with a sensor that is APS-C sized or smaller. You will need a Full Frame, EF mount lens for the 5D Mark III. We recommend the Samyang 14mm T3.1 Cine Lens for Canon EF-Mount instead, it has the proper mount and is for full frame cameras.

Q: 6. Will this lens work on a c100mk ii or will there be some vignetting ?

A: Yes, this lens will work on the C100 Mark II. It covers APS-C/Super 35mm sized sensors, which the C100 Mark II has. There should not be any vignetting.

Q: 7. "APS-C Coverage" means it wil produce vignetting on a Full Frame sensor or means that the mount is EF-S?

A: That is correct. This lens is only able to cover an APS-C sized sensor. It is not compatible with a Full Frame camera and will give you substantial vignetting.

Q: 8. What is the diameter of the front element?

A: The front element is approximately 82mm. Keep in mind, the front element isnt threaded for filters and the lenshood is not detachable.

Q: 9. I do very little video. Will this lens provide quality still photos?

A: While this is designed as a Cinema lens, meaning that it has a de-clicked aperture and gear rings for follow focus systems, you can still take photos with it. Keep in mind though this is a fully manual lens, it will not work with your cameras AF system for still photos.

Q: 10. What's the difference between this one and Rokinon 50? Because the price is 150 off

A: Both this Samyang lens and the Rokinon 50mm T1.5 (B&H # RO5015TC) are made by Samyang Optics in Korea and are both the same exact lens. Rokinon is a private distributor of Samyang here in the US Market. Going with the lesser priced Samyang lens is a great choice.

[Nikon F] Those cinema Samyang/Rokinon lenses are really cool to me. They are very well finished, robust and nice looking. The 1,5 max aperture gives you the nice looks and I thought when I first used it that the piqu is really amazing for a lens of that price (especially after putting down my 24-70 NIKON, meh :) ). It's nice to have a cool set of cine lenses for such a cheap budget :)

[2.45 lb] Butter Smooth Focus and Apature. Crisp Focus and image. You can't beat the quality and image for the price. I'd put this lens up against a Canon 16mm or Carl Zeiss 16mm for image quality of image. I'm so thankful and amazed a company was able to create a CINE LENS of this quality for $. This lens of the exception when it comes to price and quality.I purchased this lens to shoot videos on my Canon DSLR, but it also takes amazing photographs. The specifications say it has a minimum focus distance of about 7, but I've been able to pull sharp focus much closer to objects at about 2 to 3 inches.

[77 mm] This lens has been better than expected. I needed a cinema-style manual focus lens for video work on my Sony FS5 and this lens is ALWAYS on my camera. Here's my estimation of the good and not-so good of it: The GOOD LIST: First off, the optics on this are simply fantastic. Sharp all over even wide open (which is why www buy lenses like this). In technical areas, it beats almost all lenses except for the Zeiss/ Loxia, but only marginally. It has beautiful bokeh and a very close minimal focal distance. The focus gears are tactile and throw is smooth. I love that there is a significant amount of throw needed to change focal plane, but no so much so that you can't operate handheld. The Not-So-Good: This lens will require you to make some tough compositional choices due to its close minimum focus distance. Bokeh is most pronounced when the subject is at the near end of your focal distance, so if you are buying this to get the big bulbous bokeh in shots, you will need to be close (within 5-7 feet) of your subject. The challenge here is that a 50mm on a Super 35 camera acts as a 75mm lens so you will be taking medium tight to tight shots to achieve the bokeh. If you want to keep your distance and get a 3/4 or wide shout of the subject with bokeh, you might want to look for a lens with a longer minimal focal distance. Overall, a gem of a lens.

[77 mm] As every bit as versatile as you expect your 50mm to be. produces lovely images. the gearing is great for follow focus rigs. I cant say enough about the Samyang series of lenses. So much more than good for the price. you will not be unhappy with this lens.

[9] smooth rings and creamy image. I'm using it for both stills on sony A7R and videos on samsung NX1. Just pay attention at chromatic aberrations when used wide open. Capture One doesn't have lens profiles for this 50mm, so you must take care of fringing by yourself.

[T22] I am using this lens on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera (film stuff) and it is terrific. Great clarity, excellent focus. The lens is smooth and quiet. Performs very well in low light situations. For the price, this lens is worth every penny.

[Full Frame] I use Xeen lenses for commercial/corporate work and they are excellent for that. The lenses don't have a ton of character like some vintage or anamorphic lenses, but they produce a nice and clean image. They are heavy but feel very solid.
