The Redrock Micro DSLR Gimbal Kitfrom Redrock Micro DSLR Gimbal Kitincludes an ultraCage for DSLR, a precision milled aluminum camera enclosure that adds just enough camera base height to use the gimbal's bottom rails. Cage sides and top feature multiple mounting points for attaching accessories exactly where you need them for balance and functionality. This ultraCage Gimbal Kit is compatible with most video DSLRs today from Canon, Nikon, and many others.

The ultraCage top mount adds lightweight carbon fiber top rails, ideal for your remote focus motor and controller. The cage and carbon rails are designed to fit into your gimbal setup. When you're not using your gimbal, the ultraCage can be expanded into any number of DSLR rigs, including handheld, shoulder, and studio styles.The ultraCage for DSLRs secures the camera with four individual points of contact. This prevents the camera from moving or shifting in the cage along any axis. The ultraCage gives your HDSLR a cinema-style baseplate for adding 15mm iris rods, and allows you to attach accessories such as a matte box and follow focus. The ultraCage for DSLR has a universal shoe clamp, and can work with a wide range of DSLR camera bodies.

Q: 1. The Deluxe bundle was supposed to come with the universal donut, yet mine did not. Anyone else get the donut package instead of the universal donut as advertised?

A: Mine came with the foam donut set, as well as a universal donut which looks more like a hood. It's a soft fabric with a draw string on one end. Perhaps it's there and you just expected it to look like something different?

Q: 2. I have this item, but I am looking to purchase the 2 pieces from the picture that are greyed out. I think one is the ultraPlate for the Blackmagic Camera but where can I find the smaller piece that fits into it?

A: The only item I was able to find that included both the ultraPlate and the cold shoe to cage top connector was this item:Redrock Micro ultraCage Black BMCC Deluxe Cage Upgrade Kit - B&H # RE81310015 - MFR # 8-131-0015I was unable to find the cold show to cage connector separately, even on Redrock Micro's web site.I am glad I got this unit though, as the handle is definitely a great item to have on the cage for lugging around a fully loaded camera kit.

Q: 3. Will this cage fit the Sony RX100 Mark IV?

A: The RX100 MKIV will definitely fit, but it's a bit overkill for a smaller camera like Sony point-and-shoots. Q: 4. Can this be used with an a7S ii?

A: This cage is large enough to accommodate DSLR sized cameras. The A7S II will fit in it, however you may find this cage too big. You may want to look in to more form fitting options designed specifically for the Sony A7SII.

Q: 5. Does this include the Camera itself or just the accessories?

A: The camera is not included.

Q: 6. What kind of connector is there under this rig? I would like to know if I can attach the Ronin plate to it.

A: There is a 3/8 and 1/4 thread. Pretty standard. I would think you could put on just about any manufacturer's tripod plate.

Q: 7. Will these cables work with the Ronin M?

Q: 8. I have been struggling using this on 6.5 rods, the mattebox does not slide freely down the rods, it stops at the end of the rods because the up and down adjustment does not go high enough. Does anyone have a solution to this, other than getting shorter rods?

A: I've had the same issue unfortunately, and my solution has been exactly that-- shorter rods, which is annoying to have to have different size rods depending on the lens being used.

Q: 9. Does it work with the Panasonic Lumix GH4?

A: Looking at the compatibility chart, I would have to say that while it probably would fit, in all likelihood, it will be compromised. I would suggest getting a cage made for the Panasonic Lumix GH4 and build it out. Please see the two suggested. If you wish to see more, do go to the camera's accessory page for more suggestions.

[1.2 lb (0.5 kg)] Redrock Micro pays attention to the details, even when it comes to the lowly microSpud. This useful little widget is solid and true, and the nicely-knurled top portion can unscrew and come off. This might be handy if you need to thread-in a little deeper. In my case, I was able to unscrew the knurled part enough to tighten onto my DR-100, which has a shallow 1/4-20 hole. I give this two enthusiastic spuds up! 5

[1.7 lb] It is what it is. I use it to mount a manfrotto quick release plate onto a redrock rig. Just screws into any 1/4 thread. Works like a charm. 5
