Q: 2. What is the purpose of the velcro on the eye piece end of carrying case? How does it work?

Q: 7. Does it work with the STM 80 or the ATM 80

A: The Eye Cup for ATX/STX will not work with an ATM/STM spotter. Assuming you have a 20-60 or 25-50 Wide Angle Eyepiece, you'll need our item 44089. This can be found by searching the B&H page for "Swarovski Optik 44089".

Q: 8. What is the clamp made of? Metal/Plastic? What is the load bearing?

A: The BC-2 Hide Clamp is made from a sturdy Aluminium Alloy.

Q: 9. What are comparative advantages of the 8x42 DBA VHD+ Monocular over the Explorer WA ED-R for casual birdwatching?

A: The Opticron 8x42 DBA VHD+ Monocular has a wider field of view and better optical quality compared to the Opticron Explorer WA ED-R Monocular (8x42).

Q: 10. Is the optical quality superior to my current 30X70 zoom? I assume so since zooms usually are inferior. Tests? Proof of image quality over zoom? If used at night for astronomy, e.g., estimating magnitudes of variable stars, will the small 2.7 exit pupil be a negative to the point "not really usable at night sky"? What about splitting the light into the two barrels? Will this also be an issue of "not really meant for nighttime sky viewing"?

A: I own both the angled 30x70 zoom lens and the binocular BTX 35x eyepieces for my 90mm Swarovski modular spotting scope. Two me they are two different tools in the tool box. The 30x70 zoom eyepiece is ideal for scoping distant birds for bird watchers (which I am), especially for distant waterfowl on a lake as you pan the 180 degree vista in front of you. This combo is also ideal for watching shorebirds. You find the ducks at 30x and if you can’t identify them, you use the zoom feature. I use the binocular eyepiece for nest watching only these days, such as Bald Eagle and Osprey nests, or Purple Martin houses. With the binocular eyepiece, the whole unit is kind of heavy and bulky so you do not want to be lugging it too far in the field. I find the depth of field and, therefore, the focus, very sensitive with the binocular eyepiece. The binocular eyepiece is not the best choice if you are sharing the scope viewing experience with others because they will have to adjust the interpupilary distance of the two lenses and possibly the adjustable rings that aid in the distance your eyes are from the lenses. Optically, both lenses are mind-blowing! I have used the binocular eyepiece at night watching birds and bats fly silhouetted in front of the full moon. It was extremely sharp and bright. I am in my late 60s and have owned and used just about every make of scope. I am an Ornithologist so watch birds for a living, for citizen science, and for pleasure, and nothing can touch the quality of this scope for bird watching. I am sorry, for astronomical endeavors, I just don’t have the experience or expertise to answer your questions.

[4 x 2.2 x 2.1"] I love this compact scope. Very light weight and powerful. My friend has a 2000 $ scope and she prefers to use mine. Its small enough to fit in my day pack or over my shoulders with tripod attached.

[0.55 lb] As expected, this perfectly fits the scope and adds excellent protection. This is by far the best scope case IMO, your mileage may vary depending on your needs. I find the neoprene cases get in the way and offer less protection overall. I use this case for travel and storage, but take my scope completely out when using it. The zipper/velcro system works fine, I just prefer to take my scope out.

[0.55 lb] The view with the Harpia is wide clear and true color, with no distortion. The eye cup is perfectly located so it is comfortable to stay in the exact position (without glasses) for viewing the image.

[0.55 lb] I couldn’t decide on the Swarovski ATX or BTX but after much hand wringing I ordered the BTX with the 95mm objective lens and I couldn’t be happier. My biggest concern was having a fixed magnification of 35x with the BTX vs 30-70x with the ATX. My concerns were alleviated after my first use with the BTX. I took the scope on a trip to Montana and found that I could watch elk and antelope for hours in a valley below without any eye fatigue, something that I would be unable to do with a traditional spotting scope. On the 4th of July I also able to watch the fireworks over a small town that was about 10 miles away. The air bursts filled approximately 1/2 of my field of view and the colorful air bursts were razor sharp and crystal clear. The Swarovski with the BTX is simply amazing and you’re able to see more with two eyes than with just one, even with the lower magnification. Try looking through a pair of binoculars with both eyes and then use just one eye as you would with a traditional scope and you’ll find there is no comparison. If you’re on the fence like I was, just get the BTX, you’ll have no regrets.

[4 x 2.2 x 2.1"] Protects and has a snug fit. A little pricey though.

[4 x 2.2 x 2.1"] Unlike Kowa's cases for the 883, which are ill fitting, this case is a nice, relaxed fit and is just fine. Like all name brand cases, it is too expensive, but my 663, which I love, is worth it.

[0.55 lb] The clamp serves its purpose perfectly. The only issue in my case is that the three sleeves (21/22, 23/24 and 25/26 mm) included in the box are useless considering that my vertical post that's supposed to slip into the clamp base is 28 mm. Fortunately, the clamp will fit up to a 32 mm post. So, with a piece of wood I was able to shim the difference to make the clamp usable.

[4 x 2.2 x 2.1"] Very well made. Strong and stable. Was worried that it would be too small for my spotter, but it is fine. Only con is that it doesn't fit in my range bag. Would certainly buy again.

[0.55 lb] THIS CASE FIT MY SCOPE PERFECTLY. IT MET MY EXPECTATIONS AND MORE. THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD MAKE IT BETTER IS IF IT HAD D-RINGS TO ATTACH A SHOULDER STRAP. THIS IS MINER SINCE IT HAS A HANDEL. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS A PADDED COVER FOR THEIR SPOTTING SCOPE. IT SHOULD FIT ANY BRAND SCOPE.
