Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will this work putting a 72mm fisheye onto a 58mm filter size for the canon gl2?

A: This is not the right ring for that job; this is the one you need: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/809629-REG/Sensei_sur5872_58_72mm_Step_Up_Ring.html

Q: 2. Hi, will I be able to use this along with a 82mm UV on an APSC camera with the Tamron 150-600mm lens?

A: I used it on a tamron 150-600 at 600, I never used it at 150mm , also make sure your 82mm filter or adapter is not a wide angle with recessed lip. I used a cheap version of the Lee filter system for the eclipse.

Q: 3. My email was wrong. Is this a 52mm female thread? to a 48mm male thread?

A: The Sensei 52-48mm Step-Down Ring has female 48mm threads on the front of the ring to allow you to connect a filter with 48mm male threads to the step-down ring. The back of the step-down ring has 52mm male filter threads which will screw into the 52mm female filter threads on the front of your lens.

Q: 4. The two answers to the third question say the opposite. Can I use this step-down adaptor to put an 82 VND filter on a 95 lens?

A: Yes, the Cavision 95mm to 82mm Step-Down Adapter Ring for Wide Angle Attachments will allow you to mount an 82mm filter on a lens with a 95mm filter thread.

Q: 5. I have a 300-600mm Tamron lens and have a 77mm Cokin Z-Pro Series Filter Holder Adapter Ring. Is this what I could use on my 95mm lens?

A: You cannot. This product is specifically for Wide Angle Attachments. Using a 77mm filter system on a lens with a 95mm thread will be very difficult, there may be vignetting caused by using such a smaller system on a larger one and we do not recommend it.

Q: 6. can i use a step down on a 77 to 67 and then another on top of it from 67 to 49

A: Yes you use more than one step down adapter ring. Note you will get a lot of vignette when using that setup of 77 lens filter thread to a 49mm filter.

Q: 7. Confirming, front inner threads are 62mm, rear threads are 67mm?

A: Yes, the front threads are 62 mm and rear thread are 67 mm on the Sensei 67-62mm Step-Down Ring. The Sensei 67-62mm Step-Down Ring is a step-down ring permitting the use of 62mm threaded filters on a 67mm threaded lens.

Q: 8. Are the threads female on both sides?

A: No. The 58mm side is male and screws into the lens. The 49mm side is female and receives the filter's male threads.

Q: 9. Does the difference in thread sizes cause noticeable vignetting on wider focal lengths?

A: Very possibly, yes, it depends on the focal length of the lens, how wide it is. It always best to get a larger filter if possible. Putting a smaller filter, especially on a wide angle lens, is a recipe towards vignetting.

Q: 10. Are there any side effects (vignetting, i think is the term used) when using the smaller 77mm filters on the larger 82mm lens?

A: Hi again Steve, just received your reply. I did not consider going to a full frame camera. Throwing that into the mix especially with a 24-70 lens I think pretty much would cause vignetting. Going from an 82mm down to a 77mm equals about one-quarter inch that would equal a one-eighth inch reduction on each side of the filter's rim. I would expect you'll get a lot of vignetting. One consideration is that the Sensei 82-77 step-down ring is not really expensive and if it caused too much vignetting you're not out a lot of money for the ring itself. I buy that brand, as they work very well and at a low cost. I would say to start saving for 82mm filters; I think you'll fine more vignetting than you'll want to deal with, especially going to a full frame camera and that lens.

[4 x 3 x 0.5"] I purchased this step-down ring to use the 52mm ND and polarizing filters that I already own on a Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 lens. The ring is beautifully constructed and I've had no issues with it.

[4 x 3 x 0.5"] I bought a new camera with a 55mm lens, and have 52mm diopters. The step down ring was the perfect solution so I did not have to spend $$ on a new macro lens. I did have to zoom in just a little so I could not see the ring, but it did not impact the photo quality.

[Plastic] The tabs are nice for removal, made from sturdy plastic, threads on smooth, and when combined with my aluminum step up ring, is a nice, sturdy, light setup that allows me to use one size filter for my smallest diameter lenses.

[55 mm to 52 mm] Works great on my Nikon D750 with Nikon 28-300 lens (normal 77mm filter mount). Can use all my smaller 52mm filters. No vignetting as long as you use the DX in-camera crop option, found on the D750 menu. You should not use these filters in FX Full-Frame mode.

[Plastic] Opened the package and it was made from plastic. Quality high density hard plastic. Really good idea as aluminum tends to bind sometimes. Brass will not, but that is expensive.

The threads are well made. It also has two small bumps on the ring to aid removal so the old fashioned methods need not be used.

Five stars all day.
