Ideal for 16 and 35mm film cameras, the Sachtler STUDIO 9+9 Fluid Head 150mm Basewith 150 mm Ball Base, features Sachtler's unique, patented damping system that has been significantly extended. As the name indicates, there are now nine levels of extra-powerful drag on the pan and tilt as well as a zero setting for no drag. Drag levels 2 to 7 feature fairly fine gradations, while the jump from levels 7 to 9 is much greater. Its 18-step counterbalance allows adjustments via dial, in 9 stages and fine tune by half step function, and can be activated and deactivated individually.

The fluid head also boasts a new sliding plate, which has an integrated spindle drive. Centering the camera weight is now fast and easy - just slide the plate quickly into place and fine tune with the spindle drive if required. The counterbalance system combines the renowned Sachtler system with a dial knob system, compensating perfectly for any load from 18 lb to 121 lb.

In addition, viewfinder extension and front box connections are standard features of this head.

A prerequisite for perfect pictures is a panning movement without jerks and vibrations. Sachtler's patented damping system takes everything in stride. The individual modules are frictionless and contain no hydraulic oil. This means they are permanently leak proof. The damping action of heads is identical across both horizontal and vertical planes and offers you nine steps of drag plus a zero setting, for smooth camerawork under the toughest of rough conditions. You can completely disengage the drag for fast panning without affecting the dynamic counterbalance system.

Stop wasting time by fumbling around with clumsy attachments, or bother screwing the camera to head and then having to unscrew it again. With the Touch & Go system invented by Sachtler, the camera plate is secured to the camera, while the mating balance plate is mounted on the fluid head.
All you need to do is slip the camera into position, engage the mechanism, and the camera is locked firmly in place, when finished just disengage the latch and go. When you set up the camera for the next shot you still have all the original settings. Also features a safety lock lever that prevents inadvertent disengagement of the camera latch.

The sliding camera mount and plate with a 4.5-inch sliding range, allows you to compensates precisely for a variety of configuration weights. Ensuring perfect balance across the horizontal plane. Most importantly, once adjusted, the settings cannot be lost.

Built with torsion springs the dynamic counterbalancing system compensates for torque as the camera tilts, preventing the camera from inadvertently tipping, and ensuring that it is positioned securely at any tilt angle. Freeing you to concentrate fully on your camerawork. The counterbalance is adjustable in 18 steps using the rotating counterbalance knob, which features settings from 1 to 9, in conjunction with the small lever near the counterbalance knob that will apply or release half of a counterbalance spring. Using the knob and lever together provides you with an adjustment range of 18 counterbalance steps that are independent from the damping system.

Pressure or temperature does not influence the damping system, it has an operating range from
-40°F to +140°F, and works without friction. Shoot wherever you want, from torrid heat to cold climates.

Front box fixing capability - essential for every camera assistant in the movie industry.

Ideal combination with the Dutch Head 35, to enable the camera to tilt the horizon.

Load capacity of: 121 lb.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi was wondering what is the weight for this fluid head

A: The FSB 10 weighs 6lbs/2.7 kg.

Q: 2. Is this a good enough head to handle a fully rigged out FS7 with a 70-200 zoom or cinema prime lens? Thanks

A: This has a load capacity between 2 to 20 pounds. Just as long as your rigged out camera does not go above 20 pounds it is a great choice. Keeping it below 20 pounds should be very possible with the FS7 and that lens.

Q: 3. Is this the side load version or the touch and go version? With their other heads, the T suffix means touch and go, but the B&H website describes it as side load .

A: Hi, this is the Touch & Go Version (S2046-0001). Thank you, description will be changed

Q: 4. Compatible for telephoto lens??? 600mm f/4 nikon???

A: The Sachtler 0705 FSB-8T Fluid Head will easily accommodate any Nikon camera with a Nikkor 600mm f/4 lens. It will be excellent for smooth video. Keep in mind however, while this is great for video and do a good job in still work, it cannot do verticals. You can spin telephoto lenses in the lens support collar. As for other lenses, you would need to use L brackets and adapter clamps.

Q: 5. Is there an adapter for attaching a camera which already has an Arca/Swiss plate to the FSB-8 head? Or, could a QR clamp (e.g., RRS 60/80mm LR QR clamp) be mounted on the Sachtler Sideload QR Plate? Any other suggestions?

A: You could always mount something like the Sunwayfoto Arca & Manfrotto Compatible Clamp, BH #SUMAC14, to the top of this tripod. https://bhpho.to/3l0p740

Q: 6. Thinking of moving up from some manfrotto heads. Manfrotto uses two different rosette patterns for their panbars. Is the sachtler pattern the same as either of the manfrotto?

A: Manfrotto and Sachtler Tripods will have different rosette patterns for different pan bars. They will nto be cross compatible.

Q: 7. Is the same plate used on this the same as the FSB 8 side load?

A: yes

Q: 8. Is this plate the same as the standard Manfrotto?

A: The Sachtler FSB 10 Fluid Head with Sideload Mechanism will accept the Manfrotto 504PLONG plate.

Q: 9. Will this head be able to hold a c300 mkii with a 70-200 and audio accessories?

A: Absolutely. My rig I've built up is at lest 12lbs I'm guessing more. The counterbalance in this head is abundant. I can see how some might want more fluid drag adjustment, but let's face it, small platform tripods with a light payload can only handle so much. I'm pleased with this head.

Q: 10. Is an ARRI dovetail plate available for this unit?

A: You will be able to mount the Sachtler FSB 4 Fluid Head's Quick Release Plate to an ARRI Dovetail Plate.

[Yes] I've now used the Sachtler FSB-8 fluid head for a few months on a variety of event video shoots (concerts, cabarets, etc.) and corporate interviews. In a nutshell: it works perfectly. This thing is far, FAR better than a Manfrotto 504HD (my previous fluid head). Super-smooth pans and tilts, great counterbalance with my Canon C100 camera and 70-200mm lens. It's nice that the quick-release plate is compatible with Manfrotto plates, so I didn't have to spend any extra cash on additional plates.

My only complaint is the pan handle. It's way too short, and not adjustable in length. You'd think a fluid head as expensive as this would have a decent pan handle. You can purchase another compatible handle that does extend, but it's very expensive.

That said, I have zero regrets with this fluid head. Buttery smooth motion, easy to set up, doesn't weigh much, and it just plain works. Highly recommended.

[Fluid Head] Very easy to operate and more concentrate all the energy to photography as left hand can touch the lens.
Highly recommended.

[26 lb] I purchased this head nearly 10 years ago. It has survived trips all over the world and three cameras later, it is still the same as the day I purchased it. Smooth action with no perceivable backlash and flexible counterbalance system. It is now the heaviest item in my camera bag as I now use it with primarily a DSLR to shoot my video. Sadly hasn't been used much recently due to the state of travel with the coronavirus, but will hopefully be on the road again soon.

[26 lb] This
head is logically simple and reliable in use. But to understand the
quality of its work, and therefore, to decide whether to obtain this
head for myself or not, I would need to answer two questions for
myself:

1)
Would you need to set up the head under your camera every time for
different filming parameters?

2)
Is it important for you to have clean camera movement and therefore
in-shot composition?

If
not – then it is better to get a simpler and cheaper head, you
would save a good deal of money.

If
yes – then Sachtler will serve you well. That is, the FSB 6 will
satisfy many professional needs (of course, except large film
projects, where there are other needs for other camera equipment).
But in the case of production of many independent films – feature
or documentary – with non-heavy cameras, the Sachtler FSB 6 head
creates a firm sense of reassurance that the most difficult scene,
panorama and mise-en-scène
will
be shot. In film production, just like in any craft, there needs to
be a certain level of quality which would help complete a job with a
good and stable result. Sachtler FSB 6 is in this very category of
quality. I give 5 stars with one comment – I got the Sachtler FSB 6
for a tripod of another brand and the Tie-Down Bolt was shorter than
needed. I suspect that I am not the only one to whom this problem
extends to.

[Yes] My first pro fluid head back in the day was a Manfrotto 501.  I suffered its crappiness for a couple of years, finally saying Enough is enough and investing in an FSB-4.  Eventually, my camera rigs outgrew its weight capacity.  In an attempt to save some money, I read some positive reviews of a more modern Manfrotto head and tried it.  Guess what?  It sucked almost as much as my old 501, and I returned it.  Bought this FSB-8 and of course, its amazing.

[26 lb] Moving from Arca Swiss to the FSB is like moving from a manual transmission car to an automatic - everything works well and is VERY SMOOTH. Setting the balance is a snap and working with long lenses (and long lens flop over factor) ceases to be an issue. It's a must for cine - no stick slip at all.
