The Vello FreeWave Captain Wireless TTL Receiver for Canonfrom Vello FreeWave Captain Wireless TTL Receiver for Canonis part of a multi-purpose 2.4 GHz, 4-channel digital TTL radio system that gives wireless freedom from a PC cord plus the convenience of accurate exposures through wireless communication with your camera's E-TTL or E-TTL II flash technology.

Coupled with a separately purchased FreeWave Captain Wireless TTL Transmitter, the system not only enables remote triggering but also camera control with auto exposure in a radius up to 300'. Solo shooters can add depth to portraits and group shots by attaching a receiver to an E-TTL or E-TTL II flash mounted on a stand for hands-free shooting. Using 2 shoe mount flashes, an additional receiver and an assistant you'd have enough mobility to light groups, demos, shows, portraits and events on location, on-the-fly. And the benefits aren't limited to flash photography either. You can also use the receiver with the included camera cord and handhold an optional transmitter to wirelessly trigger your camera in single shot, continuous shot, bulb, and timer modes, with or without flash. This is of paramount importance in situations where a subject, such as wildlife, may be difficult to approach. Additionally, the wireless function of the device reduces the potential of camera shake when doing macro, close-up, and long exposure photography.

The Vello FreeWave Captain Wireless TTL Receiver's High Speed Sync and Second Curtain Sync functions create easy to control lighting effects and other creative options such as stop-action shooting and a wide degree of background or ambient light control.

The Vello FreeWave Captain's Wireless TTL Transmitter provides the user with the ability to manually adjust the TTL of an E-TTL or E-TTL II capable flash in 1/3 stops between -3 to +3

Control the High Speed Sync (HSS) function from the device. This mode allows your camera to set the shutter speed faster than a flash would normally be able to fire in sync with. HSS mode instructs the flash to fire multiple short pulses of light to match the shutter's speed. Your camera/flash manual will indicate how you can access this mode

Second Curtain Sync (SCS) mode fires a flash at the end of an exposure rather than at the beginning to create the illusion of motion in an image. This yields natural-looking blur trails behind the moving subject such as those seen in night shots of speeding cars

A: I have that flash and it works great.

Q: 2. Does this unit support groups and Canon's ratio system? Can you control flash output with the camera's menu system as well as the transmitter?

A: I would like to be able to help you out with your questions but I have not yet used my transmitter/receiver and I am unable to answer your questions. I am impressed with the build quality and I also like the fact you can mount a strobe directly on top of the receiver. Having the capability of syncing up to 1/8,000 sec. is a nice feature. I don't want to give you an incorrect answer until I've actually used the units.

Q: 3. Can I trigger this with a Vello Wireless ShutterBoss 4.0 Remote Timer and Trigger?

A: The shutterboss will not work with the vello free wave captain wireless ttl receiver.

Q: 4. will this work with the d500 body and sb700 flash?

A: It works with my d750 and sb700, so I assume it will also work with the d500. As far as I know, they both have the same hot shoe. So far, I am very pleased with the performance. Battery life is great. Set up was easy. It can also be conveniently used as a remote trigger for your shutter, which is great for reducing camera movement.

Q: 5. Can the receivers be used as Transceivers too? (I mean both as a transmitter and Receiver)?

A: No, the receivers in that model are only receivers and cannot be used as a transmitter. They are not transceivers.

Q: 6. Can I use the wireless transmitter to wirelessly flash a Canon Speedlite 430EX III-RT?

A: Yes, with this kit.

Q: 7. Will this work with Nikon Z7ii?

A: Yes, the Vello FreeWave Captain Wireless TTL system will work with the following bodies Z7, Z6.

Q: 8. Is this system IR or radio?

A: The Freewave Captain Wireless is a radio based, not infrared system.

Q: 9. If I need to use 4 remote flashes, can I add another 2 receivers?

A: If you want the flashes to work in TTL it will not work with multiple flashes.You need the Vello Freewave Aviator system. Below is a kit with two receivers.

Q: 10. Can you use this unit with the flash set in full manual control?....if no longer want to use TTL setting?

A: This unit does not support full manual control on Nikon D750. It will only support +/- 3 EV adjustments.

[Hot Shoe] This gives you TTL capability with a remote flash. I use these triggers with Canon flashes and have had no problems. I have not tried with non-Canon flashes so cannot comment on that. Works as advertised, easy to set up, easy to use. Battery life seems good - I have used these triggers several times and am still using the original batteries that came with the triggers. 5

[2x AA] This is a very user friendly setup. Put batteries in them and was up and running instantly! They may not have all of the features as some of the more expensive units out there but they do what they say they and do it every time. I've used these on 4 portrait sessions in the past 4 week and they didn't let me down once! Great addition to my kit! Getting my flash off camera has made a huge difference in my portraits and given my more options. 5

[Hot Shoe] WORKS FINE, HOWEVER, IT WILL NOT TRIGGER ''MOVIE' MODE, BECAUSE IT LACKS THE 2 SEC DELAY BUILT INTO THE RECEIVER LIKE THE CANON PRODUCT DOES. ADDING THIS, AND MORE CHANNELS WOULD MAKE THIS 'THE' ONLY REMOTE PRODUCT YOU COULD EVER WANT 5

[Cold Foot] I want to reduce the amount of equipment I lug around and FreeWave Captain Wireless E-TTL radio system has made that possible. I use on camera flashes for some location work. Not had enough time to test all the features but for portraits it works great. 5
