Customize your tone and capture quality sound indoors or outside for your next indie film, TV shoot, or documentary project with the RODE NTG4+ Shotgun Microphone - Premium Audio Qualitybattery- or phantom-powered shotgun microphone. Specialized features such as low-noise circuitry, digitally switchable pad and frequency settings, and minimal handling noise reduce the need to repair and restore audio in post production.

The elevated sensitivity of the NTG4+ allows it to produce strong output levels without having to apply extreme gain at your mic preamp. Sonically, the NTG4+ delivers warm sound due in part to its gentle dip in high frequencies and its rumble-reducing selectable low-cut filter. A switchable treble boost is on hand for situations where additional clarity is needed.

The combination of the 10.9" long body and supercardioid polar pattern yields focused front-facing directionality and enhanced attenuation of sound entering from the sides. Its low self-noise of 16 dBA and sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones. Plus, its balanced output allows longer cable runs than most camera-mount shotgun microphones.

Operate the NTG4+ on 48V phantom power or via its internal rechargeable lithium battery, which provides up to 150 hours of run time. The micro-USB port and supplied USB cable enable easy recharging in just two hours—charge the NTG4+ via a computer, power brick, or vehicle. Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output, the NTG4+ is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.

Digital switching not only allows for intuitive access to the mic's settings, but it also retains their states when the mic is switched off. Activate the 75 Hz low-cut filter to reduce low-frequency noise from common sources such as air conditioners and traffic. Use the +6 dB treble boost for enhanced clarity and intelligibility (best for environments with minimal high-frequency ambient noise). When loud sound sources threaten to distort your recording, switch on the -10 dB pad to attenuate the input level.

The lightweight, metal-bodied NTG4+ includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the NTG4+ in the Rode SM4-R shockmount or Rode PG2-R pistol grip (both available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations in boompole or handheld applications.

The NTG4+ has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the Rode Blimp furry windshield and shockmount suspension system (available separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this Phantom Powered?

A: The Rode NTG4 will require phantom power in order to operate.

Q: 2. Considering this microphone has an internal battery, it doesn't seem like it would need +48v phantom power. Therefore, would it work with the Sony XLR-K2M XLR Adapter Kit?

A: The NTG4 is able to be powered via internal battery or externally via phantom power from the source. This mic can be used with the Sony XLR-K2M in either manner.

Q: 3. Is PSC A4812 48V Phantom or Sennheiser 12TP48 going to work with Ntg4? I'm looking for something similar or smaller than a box shaped power supply. Thank you.

A: It looks like those should work fine with this unit.

Q: 4. I know that technically shotgun mics are meant for outdoor use, but does anyone have any experience with how well or poorly the rode ntg4 does inside, as in have you used it on your production indoor with satisfying enough results?

A: We bought ours primarily for indoor use and have been very satisfied with the results. We have a loud HVAC unit and the built in filter on the mic took away that sound and kept great clarity.

Q: 5. is it includes these microphone wind shild

A: It actually comes with the foam windshield. It will the do the job inside, but it's not very effective outside. I recommend buying a separate windshield.

Q: 6. Is this a better mic for capturing dialogue than the MKE600 ?

A: The NTG4+ and MKE 600 are comparable in terms of performance and audio quality. You should get similar results using either mic, so it's really a matter of personal preference.

Q: 7. I have a Rode Videopro shotgun mic. Besides the XLR inputs, How does this compare to that microphone?

A: The reach and rejection of the NTG 4+, along with a richer, fuller audio reproduction are just a few advantages. The NTG4+is also mor robustly built and includes an Internal Rechargeable Lithium Battery.

Q: 8. Are there any audio quality differences between the NTG4+ and NTG?

A: Both are excellent

Q: 9. What is the country of origin for this product?

A: Australia

Q: 10. Will this microphone work via AA battery and +48 if the internal battery has already died?

A: The NTG4+ does not operate on AA battery power. It features an internal rechargeable battery for power or can utilize phantom power.

[Black] The pristine build quality and attention to detail must be mentioned for this mic. 'the feel' in your hand is reassuring. On the sound front the high tones if anything are slightly rolled off but with a high boost function get extremely sharp. I've found that keeping the high boost off is preferable with interviews. The built in lithium ion battery is fantastic as you only have to carry around a USB cable which you already have with you and can charge from your laptop/iphone charger etc... Tops remarks for this Australian microphone.

[Black] I asked my voiceover agent to help me put together a home setup that would not only produce good sound for auditioning, but in the age of Covid, good production to actually record the job. The NTG4 shotgun mike along with my Scarlett Interface is what he recommended and they're excellent.

[48 V] Super helpful, love the mic, after doing a ton of research I know the NTG3 is a higher quality sound but for this budget range, the NTG4 seems to be the best.

[Phantom Power] I rented this out from lens rental to test it out and see how well it performed. Surprisingly this lil' guy delivered spot on crisp dialogue. The simple interface of choosing lo-pass or hi-pass filtering was extremely easy to do on the fly when certain unwanted sounds or drones would occur. The -10 db switching is an option as well but I didn't need to use it since this project was an interview setting and not really needed for any explosions or screaming effects. I hooked it up via the Zoom H6 and using my Sennheiser Pro 280 headphones, the project went smoothly without any hiccups or issues. Also knowing that a fully charged NTG4+ via lithium ion meant ease of mind when operating and not worrying about whether I had batteries to replace in case. All in all, I will definitely be picking up one of these and couldn't be happier with the results!

[End Address] Was thinking of going with the NTG2 but given how for just a bit more this has none of that background hiss, made this a sensible pick. Sounds great!

[1.36 lb] This is really a terrific microphone. Solidly built, good side rejection and a snap to use, it is my go-to shotgun for a lot of the film work I do. The price is excellent for the quality sound it delivers. And Rode stands by its gear. This is my second Rode shotgun and I expect I'll be using this well past the decade warranty.

[Phantom Power] I noticed one of the other reviews compared the microphone and gave it a lower rating because it didn't match the NTG3. This isn't even a fair comparison as the NTG3 is in a much higher price and performance bracket. In it's price range the NTG4 is a workhorse mic. The NTG3 is the next step up. I chose the NTG4 and not the NTG4+ because lithium batteries eventually wear out and I prefer to invest for longer term use.

[1.36 lb] A big step up from my old (20+ years) Audio-Technia.
Very quiet and has a nice, full sound. The low cut filter takes out all the boom/stand noise.
Like that it remembers your settings.

[Black] The best option for this budget, the power capability is incredible, its light and portable, I uses most of the time as a boom mic, and as a in camera mic with different setups, and the quality its really really good, even better than more expensive mics.
