The Cokin A Series Graduated Fluorescent Orange Filteris designed for use with a Cokin A Series Filter Holder. It can be used to add fluorescent orange to a hazy or colorless sky. When used to enhance the sky within an image, the desired effect can be applied only to the sky, without any unwanted changes to any other part of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a hard-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. This filter has up to a 0.3 density and reduces light from entering a lens by up to one stop. A graduated filter with a hard-edged line of transition is useful for images which include defined horizon lines. This filter is made of durable, optical resin (CR39) and measures 1.6mm thick.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the largest lens filter thread size this can be adapted to?

A: Try looking at the Cokin website (not allowed to put the link) Lots of info. I think that you will find the answer there.

Q: 2. does this suitable for 85mm lens?

A: Yes, this will work fine for an 85mm focal length lens.

Q: 3. Can i use this with a Lee filter holder?

A: No, these Cokin Z filters are 1.6mm thick, while the Lee filter holder takes 2mm thick filters - they are too thin for the Lee.

Q: 4. Is this a hard grad ND filter? I believe it is from the description but wanted to check. My instructor urges me to buy a 2-stop or 3-stop soft graduated neutral density (grad ND) filter. If this is not the right one which one do you offer for the A series of Cokin filters?

A: Yes, this is a hard graduated ND filter. The soft 121 Graduated ND filter by Cokin is designated as such with an S after the number, so you are going to want this one: http://bhpho.to/1hwdrCw

Q: 5. Is there something in the package that can protect the filters in the field? If not, what do you recommend? Thanks for your help! :)

A: Not really. The filter comes wrapped in a lens cloth, inside a cardboard sleeve that is inside a plastic sleeve. Basically sales & shipping packaging, but it can be used temporarily. There are dedicated filter containers that would be better in the field.

Q: 6. Can this be used with the LEE 100 Filter or LEE Foundation system holder ?

A: I'm sorry, no, the Cokin A filter is too small to be used in the Lee filter holder.

Q: 7. How big is the filter? Is it 100x100x2mm?

A: Following filter is a 4x 4x 0.07874. If a filter holder is needed please look into the following unit https://bhpho.to/3iGnSZj

Q: 8. Will the Cokin P-series filter holder fit my Rokkor MC W. and MC macro lenses?

A: As long as your Rokkor lenses have a standard filter thread between 48-82mm, and a focal length longer than 20mm, you could use the regular P-series filter holder with your lenses.

Q: 9. I have a 24mm lens that and uses a 52mm ring. Do I need an adapter ring to attach this cokin filter holder to my lens?

A: This Cokin P series filter holder does not come with an adapter ring. You would need to purchase a 52mm adapter ring (B&H# COARP52) to use this filter holder on a lens that has a 52mm filter thread.

Q: 10. What is the difference between the Cokin P121 and the P121S graduated neutral density filters? Both are stated to be 3-stop graduated filters. Does the s version make a more gradual transition from clear to dark than the base 121? Why would you use one versus the other?

A: I believe the S refers to soft indicating a softer transition from the neutral density region to clear. I use the S version when the scene I am trying to capture has objects (such as trees) extending into the brighter region (e.g. sky). I find the S version often works nicely when shooting some waterfalls and I want to have the foreground more exposed without introducing a hard transition line. If I'm shooting a sunset or sunrise with a strong horizon line I typically go with a harder transitioned filter.

[0.1 lb] It darkened the sky nicely in my test shots. I could not detect any loss of image quality or sharpness caused by shooting through the filter. It made the sky appear to be a deeper blue and gave more contrast to the clouds. Cokin filters worked for me back in the Kodachrome era, and are still a viable choice in the digital age.

[Rigid Plastic] This is an addition to my original set of Cokin ND graduated filters and seems to work fine for me. I just got back from a trip to Yosemite and used this filter a lot because we had bright sunshine each day I was there. This filter helped with the huge contrasts between the bright skies and the darker riverbeds and forests.
