Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello, It looks to me like the binoculars are in use. What is his condition? Is it almost new or in good or average condition? Are there any pictures of him? I need clarification. Thank you.

A: The Steiner 7x50 Military/Marine Binoculars are new. All items are new unless specifically stated otherwise.

Q: 2. Are these stabilizing binoculars ?

A: No.

Q: 3. I'm looking for a scope that can tell me the elevation (in degrees) of an object with respect to the horizon. Sorta like a sextant for navigation, but in a compact monocular or binocular system. Any ideas??? Thank you so much!!!

A: Unfortunately we don't have anything like that.

Q: 4. what does the sx stand for ?

A: It's the model of the binocular. FMTRC-SX Polaris the C stands for compass and FMTR-SX is no compass.

Q: 5. What is the eye relief for these bino's?

A: Unfortunately the eye relief for the Konus 7x50 Sporty Binocular has not yet been published.

Q: 6. Will these work in the Southern Hemisphere ?

A: No and I forgot about that the _vertical_ component of the Earth's magnetic field tilts the disc/needle opposite ways in the North and South, so a weight is needed. With a normal compass you can sometimes tilt it to compensate, but with this you can't do that.I lost a huge chunk of cost savings getting it adjusted for Ausie...it cost me IIRC about $120+ at The Aust branch, with post.Nick

Q: 7. What size battery does this use?

A: CR2

Q: 8. Do these binoculars come with a case, neck strap and lens/eyepiece covers?

A: To the best of my recollection, all of these items are included with these binoculars. The case, however, is only thin plastic and only provides dust and water spray protection, not bump and drop protection. Also, while these binos have a terrific wide field, they also have a 7.14 mm exit pupil. If your eye pupil doesn't open this wide, some of the light coming in the objectives will be wasted. Binos with this large an exit pupil are best used by people younger than 40 years old.

Q: 9. For stargazing and general use, which would be more suitable: model 575 or 2038?

A: For general use, there is no difference in the two models as both are 7x50. For stargazing, you may want to try the 10x50 model instead. Of course as you increase in magnification you will have to hold steady as the image will jump. I purchased the 2038 for a wilderness trip and was completely satisfied with my purchase. Either way, you won't be disappointed, Steiner binoculars are worth the money.

Q: 10. How does the compass work? Is it displayed inside the viewing area of the binocular?

A: Yes it has an internal compass with rangefinding reticle. While the compass is electronically controlled for rapid response to bearing changes, illumination is by a natural daylight-gathering window. At night, you will need the optional external compass illuminator.

[Porro] This one is a keeper. This pair of Marine Binoculars with build in illuminated compass is a keeper. They feel good in the hand (rubberized) for those rainy days and are waterproof. Perfect for the Marine environment. They are also very clear and provide plenty of eye relief. I use them for general purpose spotting and them with me when I'm in my boat. You won't go wrong with this pair.
