Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone tried this with an Acratech GP/GP-s/GP-ss ball head? I am thinking about saving some cash and using this nodal slide with my GP-ss with lever clamp.

A: I am sorry but the manufactures have not tested that Nodal Rail with that head. And Arca-Swiss heads are very precise and many items that are Arca-Swiss style will not fit as well as some other brands or its own brand.Best is to get an Arca-Swiss brand with their head.

Q: 2. Under the Nodal Rail, there are two 1/4-20 Threaded holes. Can someone measure me the distance from center to center of these holes?

A: The distance from the threading under the spirit level to the threading in middle of the clamp on the Desmond DNR-120 Nodal Rail (120mm) is approximately 80mm.

Q: 3. Will it fit to nikon d3300?And will the shutter release cable can be easily useful when on l bracket?

A: I do not have the D3300, but as with any universal L-bracket, you can slide the camera back and forth to adjust it to make any ports on the side of the camera accessible (most remote connections are on the sides of cameras). It isn't possible to access most BOTTOM areas, of course, with the plate attached.

Q: 4. I've read the 140 is too short for the Nikon 14-24. Is this long enough or should I go for the 200? Since I backpack a lot, every inch counts.

A: I have found this to be a bit short when I used it with a D800 and my Nikon 14-24. The Nikon D800 is so good and I have found that I really didn't need this to get good panos.

Q: 5. What are the pairs of holes down the length of the rail for?

A: They are additional threaded mounting points if needed

Q: 6. Will this fit the Canon 90D?

A: Yes Desmond DAL-1 QR L Plate does fit the Canon 90D.

Q: 7. Will this work on a Panasonic lumix g9 or fz300

A: The Desmond DAL-1 QR L Plate will fit the Panasonic Lumix G9 Mirrorless Camera and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 Digital Camera. However, the battery door and side ports might be blocked.

Q: 8. Is this compatible with the Really Right Stuff ball head and L bracket for the Canon 5D Mark III?

A: I can't say for sure about RRS head, but would guess it is compatible. It works fine with my three Sirui heads and RRS clamps and canon 5d Mark 11 RRS L bracket. I can attest that is beautifully made and a bargain.

Q: 9. Anybody use this for Macro photography? I'm concerned the clamp isn't strong enough to support the camera hanging over the end. I use a D300 with 105 mm Macro. Also the Kirk rail clamp rotates, but this doesn't. Any comments on this lack of function?

A: The ramp is plenty strong enough to support the camera/lens combination, but is your tripod head stable enough?

Q: 10. Does this rail have laser etched or painted on marks?

A: I'm not sure how to tell the difference between painted and laser etched, yet the numbers that are present (on each side of the rail, as well as the top) appear to be high quality and durable. The nodal rail also has a nice feel (weight) in the hand, and is solidly well constructed. I'd recommend the purchase. The only thing missing is a marker system to mark your settings once you've establish them for your particular lens. My work around for this has been some black electrical tape to mark my key positions, or to write the numbers down on some paper I keep with me.

[Aluminum] * It is very very good for the price. It does the job perfectly. * I test it over the weekend and took few panorama shots together with Sunwayfoto DDH-03i and this setup is great - now I think I will add also the vertical rail to complete the freedom in both axes. I enjoyed playing with it. * Packing is not that nice, but it does not matter anyway.

[Arca-Type] This is my first nodal Rail ever purchased. At the price, you can't beat it. Very good.

[Aluminum] First, I want to say that this nodal rail delivers as-advertised. It is solid and well-finished. It does possess the odd Desmond clamp sizing that won't allow all rails just to drop in, but there is adequate clearance to slide a rail with safety screws into the clamp. I have come to consider this as an additional security feature. I selected the 180mm unit because I wasn't sure the exact size I needed and thought the larger the better. This rail works, but I really only needed a 120mm rail, so I suggest you measure CAREFULLY before purchasing! That said, this rail works well and I expect it to serve my purposes forever.

[0.7 lb] I decided to try using a nodal rail to improve my panoramic photography. I estimated where the nodal point for my lens is and determined that an 180mm rail was the best size. This seems to be reasonably high quality at an attractive price, but, because of the pandemic, I haven't been able to try it yet.

[Aluminum] Installed these on tower for ptp backhaul with AF-5G30-S45 30 dBi Antennas for airFiber AF-5X 5 G. It made the installation a lot easier from the standpoint that you mount the bracket first then attach the dish.
