Record or stream an HDMI signal via USB 3.0 with the Magewell USB Capture HDMI Gen 2. With its HDMI v1.4a input, this capture device will accept resolutions up to 1920 x 1200p60. If you need to stream or record at a certain resolution, the USB Capture HDMI will internally up- or down-covert the input signal to the set resolution. It can also perform frame rate conversion and deinterlacing in real time with its own hardware, taking the processing load off your computer's CPU.

Because the USB Capture HDMI uses the existing drivers on your computer, the capture device will work with any software that supports those drivers. If you don't have a USB 3.0 port available, the USB Capture HDMI will work with a USB 2.0 port, although the resolution and frame rate capabilities will be reduced due to the restricted bandwidth.

Q: 1. What is the bitrate of the output in comparison to the USB 3.0 of 625MB/sec? How many of these can theoretically be used on a single computer (assuming the CPU is powerful enough to keep up)?

A: When using USB 3.0 this Magewell capture device has a throughput of 300-350MB/s. It can also record at resolutions up to 1080p60. You'd be able to get a very high quality recording. It is possible you could use more than one at a time if you have a powerful enough computer with separate USB buses and the proper software. However a PCI card with multiple HDMI inputs will be a far safer solution than using more than one of these units.

Q: 2. Do I need any additional software on my PC to stream live from my camera (Sony FS7 HDMI output)?

A: Yes, you will need software to stream with this product. The Magewell supports many programs, with the most popular for streaming being OBS. OBS is a free download.

Q: 3. Does anyone know how to fix the audio on this

A: the obs is not registering sound on my camera. I see it on the camera. But on OBS is not on

A: Yes, this is compatible with the Clean HDMI output from the D5600.

A: This accepts an HDMI input at up to 60fps. If your camera can record at a higher frame rate while still outputting HD at 60fps this will work fine with it. It is just a matter of what you camera is capable of.

A: Magewell does not list Corel as compatible. However you would be able to capture through different software and edit within Corel.

A: I think your proposed setup should work. I've used my Magewell to capture audio and video from a camcorder HDMI output, and it's worked very well in that application, even on a much less powerful laptop than the one you're using. My capture software (VLC and Gstreamer, running on GNU/Linux) sees the Magewell's output as ordinary USB audio/video.

Q: 10. Windows 10 isn't listed in the specs. Has anyone tried this with Windows 10?

[5 to 90%] I needed to connect a Canon vixia to vmix without using a capture card. This little dongle did the trick very well. I have read some reports that this dongle does not good job with audio, but I don't care about audio in any of my use cases, as my microphones have their own connection to vmix. I was using a web cam, and after switching to the vixia, the quality difference was stunning and chroma-key just worked. So, if your need matches mine, this is a great dongle. IT..JUST..WORKED! 5

[0.4 lb] I had a few needs I hoped this doggle would help me with and it delivered perfectly. The first was to allow me to use my Canon XA30 Camcorder as a webcam. I connected my Pearstone Active Braided High Speed Mini HDMI to HDMI Cable (B&H # PEHDC15BRD) to my XA30 mini HDMI out, connected the Magewell doggle, and the HDMI cable that's included with the doggle plugs into my Dell XPS laptop HDMI port. The computer recognized the XA30 as a camcorder option almost immediately. I tested this setup with GoToWebinar as a virtual classroom and it works perfectly. When I'm recording I also need a view that is larger than the XA30's built- in viewfinder to make better shooting decisions. With the Magewell I now use my laptop's 15 screen as my monitor when I'm shooting. As other reviewers mentioned it does get warm during use so I plan to make sure I lay it out in the open with nothing in the way of ventilation. 5
