Q: 8. Does this come with a timer? Or is it sold separately? If so, where could I find it?

A: Analu,You will need to buy an enlarger timer. They have them at B&H. Just go back to Photo DarkroomEnlargers, then click onto Enlarger accessories and scroll down below the Narrow the Results section on the left of your screen until you see Accessory Types and then scroll down within that box till you get to timers. I have both the Time-O-Lite (not sure if it is the GR90 or GR72R...mine is synched to automatically turn off the enlarger light when the time is done) I also have the GraLab 300 which is fine and was suggested to me over the phone by the B&H salesman who said this is what I wanted intstead of the Time-O-Lite. I have an OLD GraLab 300 that I use to keep time for my class and that the students use for putting their prints through the chemicals. I love it....I always just turn off the buzzer. I did not realize that the new 300's do not have that feature...you can read the reviews on both the different timers. Apparently you can turn down the sound.....I still have to look for that feature. The plastic covering over the on/off switch is a bit clumsy to me. I really like my Time O Lite better for using with my enlarger; the disadvantage is that yo have to reset it for any extra time needed beyond 60 seconds. I don't find that such a big deal. The advantage of the GraLab is it is in minutes and you just watch the second hand......(sometimes I Iose track of the second hand which why I like the Time O Lite......it watches the enlarger for me.) Good luck.....they both work fine; just determine what will get on your nerves.:-) PhyllisPS I don't think I paid $100+ for the GraLab....maybe $40.....maybe I got it via the used section? It was new when I got it......talk to the sales person

[Yes] I dont have a lot of room to work with and this enlarger was grate for a small fit. Easy to put togeather and its really solid. It fits all the sizes of film that I need and they all have great results with fast exsposure times. Its easy to use and not a lot complecated settings. I love that if I want to switch to color, All thats needed is a few new items and not a whole other enlarger.

[120 VAC, 60 Hz] The Beseler 23C is worth the money all the way. it is built extremely well and is definatly THE BEST enlarger that I have ever used. It is worth every penny. It is quite dependable and I am very pleased Beseler still makes it!

[6 x 7 cm] A good condenser enlarger for an amateur photographer. Had the same enlarger in 1990. Enjoyed it then. Gave nice sharp pictures, though has the Callier effect.

[120 VAC, 60 Hz] The overarching feature of the Beseler 23C series has always been that it is built like Mount Rushmore. It is so solid with its twin steel frame that you can simply disregard any possibility of vibration blurring your prints. Every other feature of the enlarger features a similar standard of uncompromising quality. Years ago, when I was given a generous budget to build a darkroom from scratch, I spent about 85% of it on a Beseler 23C and the rest on my other supplies. Best decision I ever made. I started with a cheaper enlarger when I was younger. The difference a good enlarger makes to your life in the darkroom is dramatic.

[22.5 lb] We use these enlargers in our beginning and advanced black and white student photo labs. This is a workhorse of an enlarger. We are replacing our old ones (over 30 years old) with new ones because we expect them to last another 30 years or more. The old ones have stood up to constant student use (and abuse) and still function well. We will be using them for spare parts when these new ones start to need maintenance, 10 to 20 years from now. The fact that the design is almost identical and that all previous peripherals (negative carriers, lens boards, etc) work perfectly with the new machines makes the transition (and cost) that much easier to deal with. This is a great machine with virtually no faults.

[6 x 7 cm] I was on the fence about getting either a condenser enlarger or this VC enlarger. I am glad I went with this one.
This is my first enlarger, so I don't have anything to compare it too, but I don't feel that there is some glaring image quality issue using a diffusion enlarger.
The VC part was expensive, but worth it. I don't have to fiddle around with VC gels, just turn the dial on the front of the head to a number. The dial is continuous, so you can choose 2.5 or 2.75 if you wish.

I didn't purchase the accessories new--the prices are prohibitive. With that said, the used market has many fine lenses, lens boards, and negative carriers for this enlarger.

[PH 140] Received this enlarger as a birthday gift and I couldn't be more happier. Great price, very easy to assemble, and arrived very quickly. The corners of the baseboard are somewhat sharp, but was easily fixed with a quick sanding. Fit my 8x10 Premier easel perfectly.
