Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the Atomos Shogun bluetooth transmit time code to Mixpre 3 II? Thanks!

A: No, You would need to add the Atomos UltraSync BLUE Wireless Time code Sync for AtomX SYNC which feeds frame-accurate time code to up to six devices up to 32.8' away over Bluetooth. Atomos UltraSync BLUE Wireless Timecode Sync for AtomX SYNC and Ninja V BH #ATOMSYBL01US

Q: 2. Can this record 5.7k raw connected to a EVA1?

A: Hello Juny, yes it can via SDI and ProRes RAW, the Tech 1TB SSD may not be fast enough though. Please go to our website for the recommended drives.

Q: 3. Will this also fit the newer line of Shoguns? Line Flame and Inferno? Since they are a little bit bigger.

A: This was created for the original Shogun and may not fit the Shogun Flame or Shogun Inferno. Since the Shogun Flame and Shogun Inferno were only recently released Porta Brace has not yet made a specific case for it. Please keep an eye on our website for new product releases. It is possible rain covers for those recorders will be released in the future.

Q: 4. Is this monitor HDR, what is the NIT level?

A: Hello Eric, the Shogun 7 is a 1500 Nit screen but can portray up to a 3000 nit shot/scene.

Q: 5. Does this work at 4k 120p and 240p HD in prores RAW? Is there any spec difference with the Ninja V+ pro specs for the sony fx6?

A: the shogun 7 does NOT work with any form of HDMI RAW, it only supports RAW via 12G SDI. For all other NEW raw formats the NINJA V+ is the appropriate recorder

Q: 6. This records 2K up to 240 fps. Can this up the frame rate on the Sony A7s that caps out at 1280 x 720 (120p/50Mbps)? Thank you.

A: Hello John, unfortunately no, the Atomos products are capable of doing what the source (the A7s for this example) can do, so the A7 can only max out at 4K@30p, so that is all we would see as well. we do NOT upscale res or frame rates.

Q: 7. Is this case waterproof? Can you use it in the rain to protect the Shogun Inferno?

A: Waterproof means a device can be immersed in water, i.e. an underwater device. This case is not waterproof. However since it is made out of ballistic Codura nylon, it is water resistant meaning is can withstand light rain for reasonable lengths of time. Heavy rain for hours no. This pro level and what we would use on set. However, if working in the rain, usually we would set up a tent at least.

Q: 8. why the new firmware does not come out on Shogun 7 with support for new cameras and the RAW format. Shogun 7, you have a top model from a small format, and updates come out only for Nina V. I made a mistake that I bought Shogun 7 and it was better to buy Ninja V or will you update the firmware?

A: the shogun 7 support SDI raw formats from all the cameras that have SDI raw formats. This unit is designed for SDI cameras which is why it does not have a lot of the HDMI Raw formats

Q: 9. I posted a question before about the Input for the breakout cable. I know that the cable is not provided, but, what I meant was about the input on the side of the recorder, I haven't been able to get a photo of the side panel where the input is supposed to be. Is the input like the one in the Shogun Inferno?

A: Hello Hugo, yes it is exactly like the SHOGUN INFERNO.

Q: 10. We have the Shogun 7 with latest firmware, and Blackmagic HDMI-SDI converters. Plan to use for switching/iso recording. Works fine on Canon C70, but GoPro gets error about SDI A vs SDI B. Is there a solution?

A: Atomos actually responded and talked me through Blackmagic firmware update and SDI type on the converter. Works now.

[1 lb (0.45 kg)] This brand had always made the perfect custom rain/dust covers for every camera I owned Now I use the Atomos Ninja2, so this accessory is a must have

[1 lb (0.45 kg)] This is a great item, but there is a learning curve. I am currently using it for a 2 camera shoot with 2 Laptops. If you are going form HDMi to SDI, you will need some converter boxes. I also purchased those converter boxes with the Shogun 7. The ATA case, I give it really 3 to 3.5 stars as there is no instructions or recommendations on how to properly store the items in the red case. (Ie. Where do you place the accessories in the case).

The power kit is also very good.

Other than that the Shogun 7 itself is work every penny.

[1 lb (0.45 kg)] I use this breakout cable to connect a mixer board or recorder (e.g., Zoom F8) to a Shogun 7, for professional balanced audio, synchronized with video as it is recorded. 3.5 mm TRS connections are too fragile for professional use, and are generally unbalanced.

[0.55 lb] I bought this as I’d like to support a none Asian company . This is a very high quality frame not cheap item it is real heavy and a great nice design it gives the 7” monitor a real great look but the most is the protection. Very highly recommended by me a guy who knows what quality is . As I always buy quality items and was born in a country where most of us knows what quality is . Very highly recommended from this great place B&H as I’ve been a customer for many many years very trusted company to buy from .

[1 lb (0.45 kg)] The Atomos Shogun 7. The new update is great, 4 camera's for 1 monitor. So many settings for the Atomos Shogun.
Really good monitor with recording for those high end projects.
I'd like to be able to change the screen's white point. Some buttons would be welcomed, I personally don't like touch screen for all my work. I like a clean screen to look thru.

[1 lb (0.45 kg)] When B&H put the special price with the accessory kit out for this, I knew I had to pick one up. Being able to record from flags from HDMI or SDI is a dream; the screen is nice and bright and works perfectly for my needs!

[1 lb (0.45 kg)] Pros: Absolutely love the color on the screen.
The 2.5 SSD slot is a great feature.
Cons: It tends to overheat in summer temperatures around 80°F and in my studio. Many of the features I wanted to use, such as NDI, RTMP, and others, are locked behind the Atomos Cloud Service.
Conclution:
I learned that without paying Atomos over $500 a year, this monitor essentially becomes just a $1,000 Display that can record to an SSD.

Thoughts:
I purchased it to future-proof my kit, thinking I could use the Shogun for SDI to HDMI conversion and for connecting a camera to NDI for live streaming directly via RTMP after no replies to messages. It's foolish for Atomos to operate in a way that prioritizes profit over customer satisfaction.

Unfortunately, I can't return it now and I don't feel comfortable selling it. I'm building a network with a lot of work and on a school bus driver’s income. Sofar and for now this purchase has left a significant mark on me being able to recommend anything made by Atomos. I will update if anything changes.

[1 lb (0.45 kg)] At first, I thought I was going to need an XY cable as I was only getting audio on the left side. For whatever reason, when I also arm the channels from the camera for recording the audio from mic in the breakout cable is present on both speakers with me having to make it so in editing. Maybe that's handy for someone. I think the build quality is fine, it works for me.
