Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can someone who has printed extensively on Gold Fibre Silk describe any differences between that and this new Gold Fibre Gloss paper other than the heavier weight? Is paper base around the same level of white? Is the surface any different looking/feeling?

A: Both papers are about the same level of white. The only difference is the thickness.

Q: 2. Is this new paper the replacement of the now discontinued smooth super high gloss ? Does it have same characteristics or is it entirely new ?

A: Glossy inkjet is a type of paper that shines by nature. When light falls on such paper it is either reflected parallelly or at an angle. With metallic paper a sheet of mylar is kept between the printing paper and the emulsion. So there's no real comparison. Metallic is far superior for a 3D look. That being said Gloss doesn't change the image effect as does metallic and the colors can be a bit more accurate.

Q: 3. does anyone know which profile to use. there are two on the Ilford site n_GPSPP11_EPSpro7890_9890_PGPP250n and n_GPSPP12_EPSpro7890_9890_PGPP250n?

A: For this specific paper which is 310 gsm, you should use the 2nd one which is n_GPSPP12_EPSpro7890_9890_PGPP250n the first one GPSPP11 profile is for the same paper if it's 290 gsm. Ilford has in the past changed weights of papers therefore they have multiple profiles.

Q: 4. In anticipation of receiving this paper (I just ordered it), I went to Ilford's website to download the icc profile for my Canon ipf6400 printer (the description says "The paper is compatible with both dye and pigment based ink systems..." When I select the paper on Ilford's website and put in my printer and this paper combination there's no profile associated for this printer / paper combo. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

A: They may not have made a profile for the Canon IPF6400 printer. So in that case I would suggest using the closest Canon option. Canon Premium Fine Art Smooth.

Q: 5. what is the core size of the roll? 2" or 3"?

A: It is not specified by Ilford. Your printer will also need to be able to handle 310 gsm weight and 12 mil Thickness.

Q: 6. Is this paper double sided?

A: No this paper is single sided.

Q: 7. Will the Canon G7020 be able to handle this papers thickness of 13mils?

A: No, the Canon PIXMA G7020 Wireless MegaTank All-in-One Printer is only rated up to 200 gsm, and the Ilford GALERIE Heavyweight Duo Matt Paper (8.5 x 11", 50 Sheets) is 310 gsm. So regardless of thickness, the weight itself won't work.

Q: 8. Is this the right paper for my Epson R2880 and XP 800

A: Yes it is compatible with your 2 Epson printers.

Q: 9. Can I use this paper with an Epson R3000 printer? Seems to be too thick. Thanks.

A: Yes. The Ilford GALERIE Gold Fibre Gloss Paper (5 x 7", 50 Sheets) is compatible with the Epson R3000 printer.

Q: 10. Does this replace Gold Mono Silk?

A: The Ilford GALERIE Gold Raster Silk Paper has the same surface and thickness as the Ilford GALERIE Prestige Gold Mono Silk Paper so it would be the nearest replacement.

[Single] I wanted to try printing textured paper and decided to pick up some small sheets of this Washi Torinoka paper to experiment with. Am totally satisfied with the look and feel of this paper. The paper has a beautiful subtle texture that adds depth to whatever is printed on it. Though the paper feels thinner than typical photo paper, it has strength and feeds beautifully in my Canon Pro 1000 printer. It is lovely for toned B&W prints with a soft textured look. I tried printing a color image on this paper and while it worked, the color looks dull and washed out. Since I only wanted the paper for toned B&W prints, it's exactly what I was looking for.

[98%] This is an excellent matte paper with enough weight to call
fine art paper. It has a very smooth surface. My auto cut worked without issues. I am impressed with the color rendering (my printer setting was "High"). I have not printed B&W or Grayscale on it yet but I expect good results because this paper handles contrast very well.

[Yes] The paper is one of my favorites to print on. The quality is superb and there is a slight warm tint. Texture is amazing

[1x Paper Roll] If I am printing on a smooth paper, this is my first choice. High Gamut, great depth, and the finish has a nice warmth to it. I rarely print on glossy surfaces anymore

[Yes] I had previously used papers with inferior weight and was primarily inclined towards this paper because of its heavy weight. Well, it turns out that this paper has so much more to offer than just it's heavy weight. I love the pearl satin finish it offers and the Dmax and color gamut are very impressive on my Epson 6000. 17x24 prints are easy to handle because of the heavy weight.

[Luster] I use this paper for printing cards and smaller prints. Very good color quality and reasonably priced.
