A: When you use a program like Lightroom, you will have to create initially what is referred to as a Catalog. The Catalog is only accessible through the program and that is what keeps all your edits and any other changes you have made to your photos. The actual location of the photos is determined by the user, generally on an external hard drive. If you don't renew, you wouldn't lose access to any of the photos on your external hard drive but you wouldn't be able to work on the catalog anymore. If you had any information in the cloud, you would need to make sure to get that offline if you do not already have it.

A: I am not an Adobe representative, but here is the way it worked for me. I bought a 12 month subscription from B&H. This gets associated with your account at Adobe when you first install, and each month Adobe deducts 1 month. Then, last April I bought another 12 months from Kelby One. They gave me a code, which I uploaded through the Adobe Creative Cloud App. So, for example, if there was 3 months left on the account from the first purchase, I then would have 15 months credit on the account. I am fairly sure that Adobe won't know to extend the subscription unless you upload the code, however.
